  misleading pricing

  I visited the website for this hotel to make a reservation, and the room rates seemed reasonable—but there was a catch. For instance, after agreeing to a room rate—say, 250 euros—you would be redirected to another page featuring a photo of the hotel, with arrows pointing to various rooms that were priced higher than the rate originally advertised. I won’t be staying there; this kind of deceptive tactic is certainly not consumer-friendly. There are plenty of other, more affordable options that don’t rely on misleading pricing.

  Great stay

  We were very happy with our stay in the Hotel Riu Plaza Espana in October 2026. The room with twin beds was clean and comfortable, beds were to our taste and it was very quiet during the nights. The location was perfect and we could walk to most places. We also appreciated the breakfast selection and kind service from all the personnel. We will be back!

  Wonderful hotel

  The Riu does not disappoint. The staff was friendly and always ready to help. The room was clean, spacious and had a fabulous view of Plaza de Espana. The buffet breakfast was varied and plentiful. Loved the location and the rooftop with 360 views of the city.

  August and September visits

  I visited the hotel on 3 occasions across the end of August and September, first for leisure and then for work. The hotel is ideally located next to a Metro2 station which provides an easy link to the airport. It is an imposing building and the multiple storeys provide excellent views. The service at reception was efficient and there is a smart, if small foyer with a bar. The rooms I had were all spacious and well maintained. When staying with my wife the room allocated on the 23rd floor had an overpowering smell of cigarette smoke. We were quickly relocated to another room. As a Riu Class Gold member there were extras provided such as wine and chocolates which were an excellent touch and recognition of brand loyalty. Breakfast is included at the hotel and with the size of the hotel it is quite an operation. You are guided to one of two seating areas with an extremely wide ranging buffet in an area linking the zones. There must be every breakfast o2ption you could think of available. Everything was always well stocked and good quality and along the lines of the breakfasts served in Riu All Inclusive Resorts. We ventured up to the roof top which guests access free and as a priority to fee paying non guests. This provides views all across the city and has a glass walkway. Drinks are understandably more expensive there than elsewhere in Madrid but it is a worthwhile experience. The major tourist points, such as the Royal Palace, Gran Via, and the plazas are within walking distance. An excellent hotel which I look forward to returning to at some point in the future.

  City Break PNP

  Great hotel for a city visit and business. History was interesting, with great views of the Palace. Being a large hotel it was a bit impersonal. Cost of food and drink higher than standard Madrid prices.
