  Not worth the price

  A NYC rip off! Despite paying for a king-bed room, I was given a room with what appeared to be a queen bed instead. The room was extremely small, and the bathroom was cramped, making the overall stay uncomfortable and far below expectations. To make matters worse, there was no iron available, leaking shower with slow waterfall and even the TV remote wasn’t working properly. These are basic amenities that any hotel should provide, especially when guests are paying for a specific room type. DONT fall for the pictures on thier website. It’s frustrating to pay for a king room and not receive it. The overall experience felt like poor value for the money. I expected a comfortable room with the advertised accommodations and functional amenities, but unfortunately, that was not the case. The hotel needs to do a better job of ensuring room accuracy, cleanliness of presentation, and proper maintenance of essential amenities, especially when you charge $$$ for hotel booking fee on top of reservations. Overall, I would recommed looking for a better stay that is value for your $$$$ than Hyatt Grand.

  Front desk person was rude, made it seem like globalists that stay at this hotel In The suites were more important than us even though we’re paying the same price. She said they can check out until 4 even though our room is supposed to be ready by 4? I had to ask a manger to come over to get us a room. We had two kids under 4. Bathrooms also not that clean, room was rushed to us. Staff overall not helpful on the phones too

  Good location, security deposit flaws let it down

  Firstly the hotel is set in a good location right next to central station & also central to key tourist attractions, with approx 30 mins being the longest walking distance (Central Park). The hotel itself is aesthetically pleasing with a gym (didn’t use), bar and onsite cafe/coffee bar. These are the positives, more than likely as we had no interaction with reception point in the domain. Check out is where it goes South. We arrived early and were grateful a room was available so we could check in a few hours earlier. We had a deluxe room but we were offered an upgrade to a corner suite for an additional $60 per night. We were asked if we had a car and explained we travelled from the UK & had no car. We were advised we’d need to pay the taxes & room upgrade upfront, which was fine but then also advised there was also a $300 security deposit, which I wasn’t aware of but we were told this was a holding deposit and would be refunded when we checked out. However I noticed later that day an edited amount was refunded from my card , I was not present but just assumed this was the holding deposit & wasn’t concerned as I was told this would be refunded on checkout, which to me is instant. When we checked out I noticed they had charged us for the car park and when I asked for the refund of security deposit I was then told it would take upto 2 weeks. I explained this wasn’t advised on check in & I was concerned as I had since seen reviews on delayed deposits…..this is when I got annoyed; 1. The staff member asked if I’d booked the hotel before or after I’d seen these reviews - I explained after but what’s the relevance. He almost insinuated why would I book it if I read the reviews prior. 2. They shouldn’t be allowed to edit card payment when you are not present. 3. I asked for a print out of what I had paid incase I had issues having a refund and was told this wasn’t possible - how is it not possible for a hotel to provide a receipt of what payment has been made? 4. I was then asked if I know the difference between card debit & card authorisation - yes I am aware but it seems your staff are not! Had I been advised if I paid on credit card this would be a holding payment I would have paid on card. However as I paid on debit card I was advised payment is taken and is refunded. When I asked the time frame, he shrugged his shoulders and said maybe 2 weeks! 5. He then said he would get another member of staff to explain as clearly I didn’t understand - I understood quite well. What I don’t understand is how a hotel can’t provide proof of payment taken against what I should be refunded and why this isn’t refunded straight away by tapping my card as I tapped it when I checked in. 6. He further insulted me by advising if my deposit wasn’t paid I can email and showed my a letterhead…..I pointed out that was the website, not an email address. Eventually I was sent to reservations and the lady there confirmed all payments that had been taken, provided a print out and what I was due to be refunded & it usually takes 3-5 working days. The entire security deposit and car parking issue really let the trip down & I would not recommend staying here or booking again. If you do book then make sure you pay the security deposit on credit card as they can’t take actual payment at this point & obtain a receipt of what you have paid and query immediately if you receive a banking notification that they have taken further payments. I find it really concerning that a hotel cannot advise what you are due to be refunded on check out & staff are clearly not being clear when people check in. As I mentioned, we had a really good trip, no issues and the check out process really let the place down.

  Frustrating stay due to multiple sleep disruptions

  I checked in for a multi-night stay in the evening, looking forward to a good night's sleep before officiating a wedding the next day. Unfortunately, my sleep was repeatedly disrupted the very next morning due to oversight by the staff. First, I was jarred awake at 6:00 AM by the bedside clock radio alarm, which had been set by a previous guest. This was very irritating on its own as I've never had that happen before, but I was willing to look past it as a single oversight. After a difficult time falling back asleep due to nerves about the day ahead, I was disturbed again at 10:30 AM by a phone call from housekeeping, despite having the Do Not Disturb sign prominently displayed on my door. The sign was even acknowledged in the phone call that woke me when I was offered more towels, meaning it is standard practice to call guests before even a full day has passed, regardless if their DND sign is up or not. A hotel's primary job is to provide a peaceful night's sleep, and on the most important night for me, that was the only service I cared about. I could have stayed somewhere far cheaper and slept much better, and will do so in the future.
