Oct 06, 2025Beautiful Resort but Disappointed by Bed Bug Issue and Poor Response
We recently stayed at the Hyatt Regency Maui over Labor Day weekend and while the resort itself is beautiful and the overall trip had many great moments, we unfortunately had a serious issue that was very poorly handled by the hotel. We booked two adjoining rooms — one through Costco Travel as part of a package, and the other directly through the Hyatt website. As Hyatt loyalty members, we expected a higher level of service and responsiveness, but were left disappointed. Toward the end of our stay, our child began experiencing red, itchy spots on his body. At the time, we assumed it was irritation from the pool or dry skin. However, after returning home, we discovered bed bugs in our luggage. It was a stressful and disturbing discovery. We contacted the hotel immediately, but the response was dismissive. It took repeated follow-ups and photo evidence for them to even acknowledge the complaint. Once they did, they told us they couldn’t assist further because the reservation was through Costco — even though one of the rooms was booked directly with Hyatt. The fact that Hyatt refused to take full responsibility, even for the room we booked directly as loyalty members, was extremely frustrating and disappointing. We expected better from a brand known for its service. It’s a real shame, because the property and location are fantastic — but that doesn't matter much when a serious health and hygiene issue is brushed aside. We hope the hotel takes real steps to improve cleanliness and guest support moving forward. At this point, we’d be very cautious about returning.

Excellent stay. We had a minor inconvenience, but the staff went above and beyond to address it. The regency club is great! My girls loved the attached luau.

Wonderful family vacation
My family absolutely loved our week long trip to Hyatt Regency Maui. Our young boys played all day in the pools and on the beach. They also enjoyed the penguins, African crane, and other birds. We were upgraded to a beautiful ocean view room and had access to the regency club due GOH status. Both of those benefits were absolutely worth it. All of the staff were helpful and welcoming. We will return again.

Great stay!
Great location! We were upgraded to ocean front view which has awesome views. Enjoy the swan garden and watch the cute on-site penguins.

Must stay
This hotel exceeded expectations! The staff was attentive and the facilities were outstanding. We celebrated our anniversary here and they treated us well
