Feb 11, 2026Disappointing change
My husband and I have been coming to this hotel for over 40 years, appreciating its overall ambiance and landscaping. Upon arrival this year we were met with an abomination where the grotto used to be. One of the highlights of our visits over the years was indeed the beautiful grotto… now demolished, and replaced with an ugly tall white wall next to the pool where the beautiful lava waterfall leading into the grotto used to be. We loved the grotto and we had many memories with it with our children as well. The grotto set this hotel apart from all others… now the pool area looks like it could be Palm Springs in a most unflattering way. We will think twice about returning.

Feb 11, 2026Great location and views but a few amenity gaps
This hotel is situated in a prime location, with stunning views (highlight of the stay) and easy access to the surrounding area and hotels. Our room was clean, well maintained, and comfortable. The lanai was on the smaller side but our ocean front view allowed us to watch the whales all day. The staff were consistently friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. I was a speaker for a conference held at this location---I was extremely happy with the meeting setup and the hotel AV staff. The restaurant, Japanga, was hands down one of the best meals on our trip. That said, there were a few drawbacks that impacted the overall experience. The lack of a restaurant (not the pool bar) serving lunch on-site was inconvenient, especially during the inclement weather we experienced for 4 days. The only bar available was located in the pool area, which limited options—especially in the day/evening when you may want to enjoy the view from a different location or during bad weather. Additionally, the open-air lobby, while attractive in theory, was impossible to enjoy due to rain and wind, making it impractical as a place to sit and relax. No one can control the weather but a remodel would rectify some of these issues. Overall, this is a lovely hotel with excellent service and an outstanding location. With a few improvements to dining and indoor common spaces, it could easily be an exceptional stay.

Run down appearance. not full luxury. Not as nice as expected. Clean rooms. Lacks hot tubs on site. Far from tour operators. Not as nice as the Mariott nearby. Recommend staying at the Marriott next door.

Great location. Kind staff
This hotel is in a great location and was our second stay. The employees were kind. The room did have a musty smell and I was a little put off by the down layer between the sheets on the bed as it did not seem clean and the sheets easily slip off it. I was quickly accommodated with a new one once I asked. The power was shut off to the area at 7pm our last night. It was still off the next day when checking out. I felt like communication was a little lacking on the situation. In the morning the one elevator wasn’t working as planned so lots of flights of stairs to walk until we figured out we could take a service elevator. Additionally, the line at the coffee shop was huge and with all of the in room coffee makers not working it would’ve been a nice gesture for them to put a coffee pot out for people in the lobby and potentially remove the resort fee for the day. The power outage isn’t in their control but how it was handled felt chaotic.

We stayed 7 nights for a combined business trip and part vacation and found the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa to be a great experience from start to finish. We stayed in the Nipili tower with a beautiful view of the Hyatt Vacation Club pool grounds with partial ocean view. The room was spacious, modern and clean with a comfortable bed. Liked the complementary welcoming leis upon arrival and the reusable water bottles provided in the room. We opted for cleaning service most days but appreciate the choice to opt out for a food and drink credit. The grounds are beautiful. The hotel pool facilities and location on the lovely beach with a short walk to additional shops and restaurants at the Whalers Village were a plus. Took advantage of the yoga classes at the resort. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The business/conference portion of the trip was also well managed by the Hyatt. I would definitely stay there again.
