    Worst Experience Ever

Worst experience ever 1. First, not a true adults only resort. Most of the restaurants and bars are located on the family friendly side at the Hyatt Ziva. 2. Second, rooms and property are dated, old and desperately in need of renovation. Paint is chipping, stains everywhere and the furniture is old and stained. Rooms haven’t been updated since forever. 3. Food is terrible. Menu options at the restaurants are very limited. It’s a one pager (appetizers, main, sides and dessert). For example, the Asian restaurant: no rolls or sushi options. Just as an appetizer they have 3 pieces of rolls. And they ran out of sake. 4. Staff are not attentive, appear overwhelmed, tired and unhappy. Just like the resort. 5. No attention to detail. 6. If you’re looking for an exclusive all inclusive adults only experience - stay away. 7. At best, This is an okay 3 stars resort. And I’m being generous. If 8. By far, the worst vacation I’ve had.

Memorable for all the right reasons. Unbiased, honest review.

Hyatt Zilara, Swim Up room 1125, Adults only, 11 nights. Where do we start? Ignore the negative reviews, if you look for negatives you will always find them! We lean towards Virgin for the end to end flight included experience. We have visited a number of Caribbean islands, we have stayed in different branded resorts, based on our experience perfect is super hard to achieve in our opinion. After a long journey, our arrival experience was good, the arrivals terminal is the older of the two. The transfer was slick. Check in was quick and easy, we were not offered any welcome refreshments after long flight from UK. The room and facilities were good, yes this is a mature resort, we have stayed in better, they do tend to be newer, we have also stayed in worse. All of the basics were available, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner etc. We had no issues with the air con, hot water or room during our stay. The mini bar was good it was reloaded every day without request. In our opinion none of the swim up rooms get full sun all day. Due to the location of the resort. If you are looking for a quiet, chilled zen like experience this is not the resort for you. The adults only pool is lively, the mood is dictated by the guests. Music kicks in at 10:00 and finishes at 17:00. We had a couple of super lively days, being of a certain age we weren’t too bothered. Space around the pool is first come, first served, towels are out as early as 07:00. As this wasn’t our main choice to spend the day, again we weren’t too bothered. We spent most of our time on the adult beach, which was good, there were always plenty of beds available. The beach waiter service was always very attentive. The weather was typically Caribbean, very warm, cloudy in parts, little or no rain, it starts and stops, when the sun is out, the sun is out! Don’t forget your sun screen during the cloudy bits! The onsite restaurants, mainly on the Ziva complex were easy to pre book up to a maximum of 5 days in advance. We could not fault the quality of the food and choices. Each restaurant had a great main and a number of starter and finish selections. Based on other resorts the quality of the dishes was good and consistent. Take advice from the restaurant booking team, be flexible, try all of the different restaurants it’s part of the experience in our opinion. At the same time do explore the whole resort, it does have loads to offer, there are numerous bars, non restaurant eating locations and shops. The Jerk Shack and West End spring to mind! The staff are a great asset to this resort, the Jamaican’s genuinely want you to have a great time and experience. We were impressed with the politeness and enthusiasm of all of the staff during the whole of our stay. We do believe in mentioning every positive experience, on this occasion there were soo many. However big shout outs to: Natoya - Our main room cleaner, she was an absolute star! She was almost like a long lost friend. Cleon - Mini bar guy, top man, nothing was too much trouble. Julio - Bar tender, another top man who was soo enthusiastic and entertaining. Anne Marie - WestEnd pool food cook, wow, we would come back again for the service and menu. One additional point to note, like all the main resort brands in the Caribbean. They do and will offer corporate hospitality and services to US and Canadian companies. During our stay two companies reserved rooms, pool and beach areas. We suspect to reward high performing staff. This does have an impact on the resort vibe. Not a negative, just an honest observation. That said, everyone deserves a holiday right? Would we return to Zilara……….yes we would.

    Service is horrible.

This resort has very poor service. The resort is beautiful, but service is very subpar. Bar service is subpar, drinks are inconsistent. You make reservations for dinner and they get lost in their system. We had reservations at the Italian Restaurant, first night they lost our reservation. Tried again, we were on our way to be seated (party of 8) when these “higher ups in the Hyatt organization” walked in right past us an sat down at our table. The maitre’d said “Oh your table is not ready yet”. Waited 30 minutes to be seated. Then another 15 minutes for any server to come to our table. Our waitress was also serving the “higher ups” and as she was taking our order her supervisor came over and told her to go focus on the “Hyatt group” and she walked away in the middle of taking our orders. Waited another 10 minutes for another waiter to bring our drinks and finish taking our orders. No apologies from anyone. Total s**t show.

Great stay at Hyatt Zilara - perfect winter getaway

We just got back from a week at Hyatt Zilara(and Ziva). We had a great time and really enjoyed the food and entertainment. The service everywhere was great and we met so many lovely people working there. A quick review: Most of the entertainment and restaurants are on the Ziva side near the Rosehall Village. If you're staying on the Zilara side it can be a bit of a walk in the evenings for dinner and the shows. We didn't mind but just figured it was worth mentioning. Both sides have a beach and pool. Zilara beach was pretty rocky but fine with water shoes. Ziva beach was very sandy and calmer and we were able to see some little fish snorkeling there. Pools are gorgeous on both sides, but people were really bad for saving chairs all day at Zilara pool and hardly being there. It would be nice to see the resort implement a policy to remove items after 2 hours if no one is seen at the chairs, but we understand that could add stress for the staff as well. We never had a problem though findings chairs at the Ziva pool or either beach. Beach and pool concierges came around frequently too for drink orders and to offer cold bottled water 😊Shout outs to Stacy-Anne and Elvis who brought us drinks and water every day. The adult only side does have two restaurants, Urban Heatz (farm to table and southern inspired food), and Jamaican Rootz (we LOVED lunch and dinner at J Rootz). We also really enjoyed Calypzo (mostly seafood and Caribbean style dishes), Petit Pariz (French restaurant - we had duck confit and lamb and both were excellent), and we really enjoyed the Asian restaurant (Fuzion). It was easy to make reservations for dinner at the desk in either lobby, but most restaurants didn't need it. We would only really recommend reservations for Fuzion (Asian) and Urban Heatz. Everywhere else, we got in no problem without reservations. If you are there on a Thursday night, don't miss the street food festival infront of Rose Hall. They had fire performers and a Reggae band during. For food they had jerk chicken, jerk pork, curry goat, shrimp, spicy escovitch, muscles, rice and peas, sautéed veggies, jerk chicken mac and cheese, beef patties, fresh tropical fruit, desserts and ice cream. It was seriously the best! Food and drink was excellent. Both lobbies have coffee shops opened until 10 or 11 at night, both lobbies have a late night bar, and there was late night food options at the Jerk hut (reopens at 10pm until 3am) and Union Jackz sports bar serves bar food until 2am. Room service does cost $10USD per order, which really isn't bad, and we still tipped the delivery person, but we only used it on our last day for breakfast since we had an early transfer to the airport. Special shout outs to some of the phenomenal staff we had: *Lashoya at Fuzion - she had the best personality and the service was amazing. *Shamel at Petit Pariz - fantastic service, and he kept our wine glasses full while we waited for dinner. The main course took a little bit of time, but he even brought out extra appetizers for us while we waited. *Shannando at Di Roza - awesome personality, a warm welcome, great conversation, attentive service and a great atmosphere. *Katie-Anne at Calypzo - friendly, attentive and we had some great conversation with her throughout our meal. Our fave bartenders: Livingston, Donjay, Andeen, Mark, Duval and Carl. Everyone was excellent, but those folks we felt were going above and beyond and working so hard everytime we saw them. They had some great entertainment while we were there as well, including: The Silver Birds steel drum orchestra, Infujon Reggae Band, fire performers, dancers and more. In the Zilara lobby in the evenings, they also often had a live violinist or soul music duo. Food, entertainment and service were absolutely excellent everywhere we went. *The only complaint or negative we experienced during our stay was on January 27th, when Optavise insurance was there for a big conference. They rented out the area next to the showtime stage infront of Rosehall, and their presentations were so loud, we could hear it over the violinist all of the way over on the Zilara side. They also moved the show that night for Infujon reggae band from the main stage to the Ziva pool. They didn't open a bar or have servers and they only set up one row of seats. It felt like the other guests and the band were pushed aside for this one group who could have been accommodated inside at the banquet hall, or they could have scheduled their event early enough that it was finished before showtime for the regular entertainment area and bar to be available to all guests.*

A nice time but a little disappointed

A nice time but a little disappointing. Years ago I stayed here when it was a Ritz Carlton with my three children and it was a fabulous fabulous experience. I had the same expectation of this facility as a Hyatt Zilara but was disappointed in the physical facility, and especially the food. But still a lovely place to visit
