Immaculately Maintained Property and Fantastic Staff will Make for a Nice Vacation!

Iberostar Selection Cancun delivers as an economy all-inclusive with particularly impressive facilities and staff given the price-point. Quality of dining and beverages was a little disappointing but what we expected given what we paid. Overall they have a solid product. Booking/Coordination. Booking online through their website it was during an impressive sale making the price too good to miss. Further coordination was done via e-mail and they were generally responsive. We did opt for a last-minute upgrade which really did not go smoothly but in the end they made a real effort to make us happy so overall good job to the pre-arrival team. Check-in. Prompt tagging of bags and escort to the check-in counter. First greeted by the concierge (mention later) and then check-in. Efficient and friendly. The concierge is dual purpose of selling memberships and traditional concierge duties. In our case when we immediately and firmly refused the sales pitch the conversation ended. But to be clear, he was very friendly and professional. Fortunately our room was ready and we were given a ride with out bags and a quick run-down of the property. Room. We eventually paid for an upgrade to the Master Villa Beachfront because we had family that was in Villas area and that was the only way they would get us to that area (in Iberostar's defense it was a late minute upgrade request). The Villas were really perfect being off to the side of the main hustle and bustle of the resort. We had a very large suite on the second floor and right on the water. They also have similar sized suites on the first floor with the swim-out shared pool however I believe they don’t normally book for nonmembers (so I am told). The room was clean and well set-up with a kitchenette, large living room, master bedroom and one and a half bath. The balcony spanned the front of the suite and was a nice place to sit and enjoy the view and the sound of the waves. Of note in-room beverages were only beer, soda, and water with no wine or hard-alcohol which is a bit of a departure for many all-inclusive even at this price-point. Room service (discussed below) can only offer more beer but no wine or other options (short of buying a bottle of wine which we ended up doing). But overall, we really enjoyed our room both in design and maintenance. Facilities. Iberostar Selection is a large All Inclusive (AI) property, very common in Cancun. Although Villas do give a little feeling of a respite from the large resort, the main building, main pools, restaurants, etc are very large and capable of high-occupancy. With that, the size is manageable in terms of walking but you will still “get your steps in”. The resort shows a little bit of age, however facilities are very well maintained and the grounds expertly manicured. Another plus is the clear separation for pools suited for the kids and pools suited for adults. Occupancy was low however we never felt inundated with kids and I would assume most parents didn’t have to cover the ears of their children after adults had too many margaritas. Although there was a typical early morning “seat grab” with towels on the loungers, we never had an issue finding a nice place to sit. Umbrella configuration is generally fixed so not ideal for a person like me however I think if we pushed they would have accommodated. Overall the facilities were great from the beach to the lobby to the pools they have a very nice product especially given the price-point. Dining. To every experience a little rain must fall. Pretty much across the board all the food and drink were average to slightly below average even for a high-volume, lower price-point resort (i.e. Carnival, Sandals, Riu). They do have a number of dining options available along with the typical buffets but food quality was budget and preparation generally “just good enough” to “fail”. There were exceptions, like breakfast, but those were diamonds in a lot of rough. This is NOT an indictment on the staff, as I will mention later, but when you give a talented chef or cook cheap ingredients…there is an impact. Booze and cocktails were average but some inconsistency depending on the bartender or the bar. The biggest complaint is this - no reservations with the exception of their Hibachi spot. All other al a carte restaurants are first-come-first-served starting a 1730. This means that when many of us are enjoying a late afternoon siesta after a day of sun….we need to either suck-it-up and eat at 1730 or dispatch someone to get on a waiting list with timing based on luck on the estimated return time that would accommodate your party. Fail. Before learning this technique we had two evening where the lists were closed before 1900 and the only options were the buffet. We have experienced a lot of resorts across all levels of budget but never seen this approach and frankly made for an easy, “deal breaker” declaration. Iberostar - really should fix this, you have a reservation system in place already just use it for all your restaurants. Another note - no breakfast room service. Staff. Back to very positive! From grounds keepers to servers Iberostar really has terrific staff and frankly unexpectedly talented given the price-point. Experienced, professional, and very friendly. I cannot think of an interaction that was anything other than terrific. Within the bounds of their policies they will bend over backward to ensure your vacation is everything you want it to be. Thanks to each and every member of the Iberostar Selection staff! Tips. Of course the official policy is they are not required. Tell the rest of the guests that! As the majority of the guests are from the country to their North, many of their guests bring that tipping culture with them. Certainly a personal decision and the staff are professional and have learned to not overtly expect it, but most of the time tips are going to happen. Most commonly transactional, when serving a drink, hosting a meal, and certainly moving you or your bags around in a cart some money often moves their way. Lots of wet $1 and $5 USD bills changing hands. Membership/Loyalty Program. They are part of IHG and IHG status is recognized by Iberostar to include points, stays, and complimentary upgrades when available. They also have The Club Membership by Iberostar which they are keen to offer/sell. As I have a visceral reaction to such things, I did not learn anything about it. Perhaps a good fit for you… Iberostar Selection Cancun is a very well maintained and terrifically staffed All-Inclusive for the price-point. The food and beverage is average to below average but the real disappointment for us was the lack of reservation for their al a carte restaurants driving you into the either early dining times or the buffet. This is the only reason they will not like see us again. But to the staff - thanks for making a wonderful holiday for us!

    Very happy..

I was here 15th to 29th.. Our room was very clean.. bathroom ..shower all good clean.. we had a small balcony, over looking pool and the sea, we were very happy with it. The food was very good, lots of choice in buffet room.. sirlion steak, pork, lamb, chicken on a spit, large pawns.. tacos.. burger, bolognaise, pasta, lasagna.. pizzas were lush and more... good selection for breakfast we had mexican might, italian and american night.. steakhouse and italian all good. Head chef, pretty sure he was, Daniel, was very helpful, friendly, went round to tables and chatted would bring food out to guests, Got me some honey and lemon as I had severe sore throat little touches go a long way.. very friendly and helpful Chef.. he is a credit to Iberostar how everything is run and set out. The staff that took us to our tables, very friendly. Friend was vegetarian, a chef got a meal for her cooked fresh, my friend also she asked if had they any strawberries, they came back with dish or strawberries and blueberries.. another time was asked if she wanted anything cooked.. the small things that also count.. Room service although not big menu, was very good. Nice range of fresh juice for breakfast.. Nice desserts.. cud of done with more vanilla icecream. Had a choice of 6 or 7 over all but only 4 on a day. Small size cakes, tarts for deserts.. Bread was nice and fresh. I cannot fault this hotel at all.. staff friendly.. except night entertainment needs improving... The swimming pool/s are very well designed.. sunbeds are pretty spaced out and pool bar was not overly busy.. no prob getting a drink.. Pool entertainment all good Bad seaweed due to storms but expected, a lot had gone by time we left. Would I go again, yes...

    Meh!

This was our first time to this resort. We had a villa room with semi-private pool. The room was wonderful and met great people who had a room in the same villa. Enjoyed visiting with them all week. It happened to be my birthday while we were there, and the staff decorated which was really nice. Weather was good, mother nature kept daytime showers at bay, with majority of rain overnight. Mosquitos were awful all week, but they were having quite a bit of rain. We enjoyed the steakhouse and italian restaurants the best. They opened the mediterranean while we were there, the California Lobster tacos were amazing! The American Bistro was ok, but one visit was enough. Very disappointed in the Japanese, the chef was mediocre at best. Generally, you anticipate a "show" of their cooking skills and there was none to be had. Buffet was a buffet - breakfast was the same daily, lunch and dinner had several by the same options. The taco near pool were great - we ate those 3 times during our stay. The burger bar right next to here was good as well. There was a gymnastics event all week at the convention center, so pool, buffet, lobbies were packed with kids. Kids that ran all over, toddler age and above, lobby had a constant running of kids every night. The pool service by Cesar at our villa pool was phenomenal - that man put in so many steps each day, I would hate to keep up with him. He served all 3 pools near the villas, worked the beach bar and served on the beach. He was constantly on the move. Cesar was very attentive and engaging and we enjoyed having fun with him all week long. Evenings you would see him working in the lobby. Adrian from entertainment team was in the lobby in the evenings talking to everyone, asking them where they were from, talking about the evenings show and overall pleasant to visit with. The Spa was amazing!!! Ask for Marisol - my hot stone massage was so relaxing! We are Iberostar Club Members and this is where we had the most disappointment. When we arrived at 2:30pm, we waited to get checked in and to our room for 1 1/2 hours, and we were the only ones in the Members Lounge. After about 25 minutes they told us we needed to go eat as the buffet would close in 15 minutes - from the lobby there was no way we could get to the buffet in that amount of time. We have been members for years and never encountered this. The Star Prestige staff, with exception of one and I cannot remember her name. (Tiny girl with glasses and bantered back and forth with my husband - to his enjoyment!) Anyway, the rest of the staff seemed to act like we were an annoyance all week. We were told to schedule our departure midweek, which I did. Stated the time we should be ready to leave and to check in the day before. When I checked in on our last day, they still did not have it scheduled - called me with a different time, and then confirmed later the original time. When we arrived to check out - there was the bartender, one staff having a discussion with guests and no one else. Finally, another staff member walked in and asked if they could get someone to help. We explained that we were checking out. He called someone to come and by the time they arrived, we had 15 minutes before our transportation would arrive. Members Beach - We enjoy spending our mornings at the beach and afternoons poolside. For the first 3 days, we were the only ones at this area and during the 3-4 hours we would be there they would inquire if we needed anything only once each day. While we enjoyed the resort - we were disappointed in the Star Prestige Service. Nothing compared to other resorts we have visited. Would we return, yes - just not during high season.

    Excellent wedding experience

We had a good time at Iberostar selection Cancun. Our daughter got married there on 10/4/25. The wedding team was easy to work with. Wedding coordinator, Janet Mejia Ruiz was responsive to all our inquiries during planning the last year. Everything was perfectly put together and the wedding went well. We were extremely happy. 5 stars for the wedding staff, bar, and food. The hotel is nice, rooms and food are average for an all inclusive. We were disappointed that it’s hard to get into several restaurants. Wish they took reservations to avoid showing up to wait a long time for a table (if you can get one at all). We rate this all inclusive a 3 overall, bumped it to a 4, due to our excellent wedding experience.

beautiful resort but not good foo

it’s a beautiful resort and most of the staff are very friendly. Pools are clean. Pastries ,muffin n donuts from star cafe are the best. But the buffet is huge disappointing. Not much varieties and almost same food every day. Actually this is the smallest buffet with less selection i have ever been to. Japanese restaurant is best among other restaurants.
