  The Heart of Treasure Beach

  I’ve traveled to Treasure Beach solo twice and stayed at Katamah both times, a place I absolutely adore. Jakes has always felt like the other great anchor of this extraordinary community. Picking between the two would honestly be impossible because they offer different versions of what makes Treasure Beach so special. Treasure Beach is wonderfully resistant to conventional tourism: small guesthouses, fishermen, local restaurants, quiet roads, and a rhythm that feels completely its own. Somehow Jakes provides a cultural and economic center without disturbing any of that. I first came here during a very difficult chapter in my life, and the tranquility I found in Treasure Beach, and particularly at places like Jakes and Katamah, has stayed with me ever since. Everyone I encountered at Jakes was remarkably kind, welcoming, and sincere. Some of my strongest memories are the simplest ones. I used to start my mornings with yoga taught by Laura Henzell on the rooftop deck at Driftwood Spa, overlooking the Caribbean, and the setting was genuinely magical. Laura was incredibly warm and kind, and the spa itself, which she founded, perfectly captures the spirit of the property; I also had an outstanding massage there. After yoga, I’d wander over for breakfast by the pool, usually an incredibly fresh egg breakfast sandwich and a little French press of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. The mango trees scattered around the property, fresh fruit sitting in the lobby, colorful architecture, sea air, and complete lack of pretension made the whole place feel organic and alive. I also had countless meals at Jack Sprat, one of the great expressions of Jamaican beach cool: delicious food, music, a mellow crowd, and the sea only a few steps away. Nearby Eggy’s Beach was another favorite, largely because Eggy himself was such a warm, wise presence. For anyone deciding where to stay in Treasure Beach, I’d enthusiastically recommend both Jakes and Katamah. Katamah is a wonderful choice if you want something smaller, more independent, lower-priced, and intentionally light on traditional hotel services. Jakes is probably the better fit if you want more of the infrastructure of a full-service hotel, with multiple places to eat and drink, a spa, pools, activities, and a wider range of accommodations. I’d love to return with my wife and stay in one of Jake's cottages or bungalows, and someday come back with our larger family and rent one of the villas. Treasure Beach is one of my favorite communities anywhere in the world, and both Jakes and Katamah represent, in very different ways, exactly why I love it so much.

  Jake’s is a slice of heaven!!!

  Staying at Jake’s can only be described as pure bliss. Everyone is so warm and welcoming. I felt at home and like I was among family. Our group was well taken care of. Anything we desired was met, all you have to do is ask. 10/10 recommend!!! I look forward to more stays in Treasure Beach at Jake’s for years to come!!!

  Jakes at Treasure Beach

  I love Jake’s, but I was disappointed by the lack of loyalty from travelers after this magical island was impacted first by Hurricane Beryl and then Melissa. There were so many cancellations after the storms, which made it difficult for tourism to return to BAU. Nevertheless, Adrian (my concierge), Amanda (my chef), and Gerald kept everything running as if it were business as usual, ensuring that my trip, my concerns, and my requirements truly mattered. I’ll definitely be back soon, guys!

  Charming, delightful little hotel!

  We had eaten at Jack Sprat for many years, but I had never stayed at Jake's. Great pity; this compared quite favorably to another spot in Treasure Beach, but it was exponentially better than the place we stayed in last year. Jake's was as comfortable and with comparable amenities to some of the tourist hotels (not resorts) in MoBay. Staff were charmingly pleasant and attentive, the rooms (at least on the side with rooms named Twin and Queen) were spacious with coffeemaker, fridge, POWERFUL WORKING AC, and either ocean views, access to a private balcony, or both. The restaurant and bar offered a satisfying variety of food and drink, tons of activities are organized on the campus, and arrangements can be made to tour nearby sites. I can't imagine staying in Treasure Beach and not at least considering Jake's. - - they've ushered in an elevated standard for area lodging.
