  Overall nice property with a beach and a pool

  We spent 5 nights in this hotel in September. Overall we were very pleased with our stay. We checked in around 9 pm and were checked in quickly. We had booked a resort view room and were given a room on the floor in the 2nd wing of the hotel. we had a view of the parking lot when we looked to the right and to the left was trees but since we were on the top floor, we could see the ocean past the tree line so it was a decent view. Room has a nice sized balcony with small table and 2 chairs. The room decor was beachy, we had a sofa bed, a king bed that was very comfortable, large flat sceen tv that did not have alot of free channels but did have Amazon Prime and Tubi so we were able to find things to watch when we wound down at the end of the day. As other reviews have mentioned, the furniture and decor are dated but the room was clean and everything was in good shape. we also had a decent size mini fridge in the room. One annoyance was the water in the shower....even on the Cold setting, the shower water was scalding hot....had to run the shower for 5 to 10 minutes before the water cooled down enough to safely take a shower. That was really the only annoyance we dealt with. The hotel is in a great location, there is a sandy beach immediately adjacent to the hotel and there was also a pool. The pool did not seem large enough for a hotel of this size, but the pool was clean and the location on the beach made up for the size. They do have chair and umbrella rentals on the beach. Hotel has a breakfast buffet that we did not try and a coffee shop which sold breakfast sandwiches and something called a Croffle (cross between a croissant and a waffle) that was pretty good. The morning cup of coffee that we bought there every morning was also good. There is a pooside bar and restaurant that serves lunch and dinner but it does close early (9 pm i believe), we had lunch there one day and it was tasty. There is also a shaved ice store and an ABC store in the hotel. There are many drinking and dining options within a short walk from the hotel (had a very good breakfast and dinner at Fish Hopper, also had a very good dinner at Big Kahuna Grill across the street from the hotel. Also ate at Quinns' which was okay. Plenty of happy hours are available in the area where you can get decent priced Mai Tais. Be advised that late dinners don't seem to be an option in Kona, it seemed that most of the restaurants closed at 9 pm. While there are some homeless people in the area, we never felt unsafe in the area. We paid about $40 a day for valet parking. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in the Kona area.

  Terrible and you need training

  Worst hotel management ever. Staff desperately needs hospitality training. Hotel needs mental Health crisis training. They intentionally exasperated a medical condition to suit they own needs so they cold book more athletes from this Ironman man convention at the hotel that took everything over unfairly. Staff is horrendous and lacking humanity.

  The resort itself was very nice. The grounds were extremely well kept, the décor was fitting for the property and tastefully done, and overall, for a Marriott property, I was impressed with the appearance and amenities. Unfortunately, the customer service was a major disappointment. During our stay, one of my shirts accidentally went over the balcony and landed on a roof below. I called the front desk and asked if someone could retrieve it. No one ever followed up with me. I called again the next day and was told that it would be retrieved, yet once again, nobody followed through or delivered it to my room. I ultimately left without the shirt. That should have been a very simple request to resolve. The first night, the smoke alarm in our room began flashing an extremely bright white strobe light periodically throughout the night. It was bright enough to illuminate the room and was very disruptive to our sleep. I contacted the front desk and was told that this was "normal" and that they could not do anything about it. The following night, the exact same thing happened. This time I recorded it and showed the video to a manager. He appeared genuinely baffled by how intense the flashing was. Clearly, what we were experiencing was not something that should simply have been dismissed as normal. I also had an interaction with one of the front desk employees whose response and demeanor were noticeably grumpy. It did not appear to be personally directed toward me, but it certainly did not reflect the level of hospitality I would expect from a Marriott resort. There were several positives. The Honu breakfast was good, the bar was enjoyable, and the pool and spa were great. The resort grounds were probably one of the strongest aspects of the property. The bed, however, was quite hard and uncomfortable for my preference. I have stayed at many Marriott hotels and resorts over the years. This property has a lot going for it physically, but the service side needs significant improvement. A beautiful property can only carry the experience so far. Better communication, follow-through, and hospitality from the front desk staff would have made a substantial difference in our stay.

  Great Room, Excellent Service, Convenient Location

  Loved our oceanfront view room in the West Tower! The balcony is large enough to comfortably accommodate two chairs and a small table - perfect place for morning coffee and evening sips. Matt, Hihona, Tisha and Rehna provided first class service at the front desk. They noted we were there for a special occasion and were so gracious and accommodating, making sure our room was perfect. The location made restaurants and shops easily walkable, and we enjoyed having the public pier and beach at our doorstep. Would definitely return.

  Highly recommended

  Rooms and amenities were fantastic along with the concierge for booking adventures. Pool area and beach were amazing except the pool water was a little too warm the first few days. Automated parking lot cameras need the be upgraded to recognize license plate for entering and exiting.
