  Duped by Oceanfront Claim and Website Photos.

  This is a first part review. We like others apparently booked an Oceanfront room with balcony only to be given a second floor room that fronted a huge asphalt roof, not the pool, bay or ocean other than off in the far distance. Like others they claimed the rooms were all sold out. We have asked for an inferior room and agreed to a rate adjustment. Just stop claiming these rooms are oceanfront Marriott. It’s embarrassing the brand and your property to do this to anyone much less your Gold Elite members.

  On par for the Big Island

  This is about as good as you get for a resort feel in Kona. That said, it’s nothing special. I’d give high marks for water access, they have their own beach/bay. Also high marks for the pool and fitness center. The front desk personnel are friendly and accommodating. The cleaning staff and maintenance were accessible and prompt. The poolside bartenders were fantastic however the roving wait staff was green and really didn’t understand how to take care of guests. If you get an ocean view room, just slightly more cost, you will be happier. Each morning and evening we saw the canoe club take out 6-person outriggers. There is a luau on site, and don’t be surprised to wake to a Norwegian cruise ship offshore. The rooms are typically Hawaiian meaning they have “icky” carpet and the linen, though clean, could use some bleach to bring them back to white. As I said, it’s par for the course in this area. If You’re looking to stay here for a week, don’t. Fly to another island for a couple days. The big island has volcanoes which is a day at best unless you plan to hike your butt off.

  King Kamehameha would be displeased to have his name on this motel.

  Raw sewage emerging from front lawn with horrible odor in front of hotel. Storm drain hasn't been cleared in years. This has been an ongoing issue at this property for a very long time and sewage leakage more than likely contaminating lagoon and ocean nearby. Ocean water also contaminated from cruise ships and their water taxis as docking pier very close to hotel. Lagoon has evidence of diesel fuel. Hotel has an overall dark and depressing feel. Its dated and in disrepair. Room AC cannot cool down rooms. Old windows allow outside heat to enter rooms. Room doors allow hallway lights to leak into rooms at night. Shower glass doors loose and flimsy. Hot water takes forever to reach bathroom. Kitchen exhaust enters ocean side rooms. Large sliding wooden shutterto block window light difficult to move.

  Awful experience

  Terrible experience. We have been coming here since the early 2000’s, and this place has really gone downhill. They have not kept up on the maintenance, and everything is falling apart. We checked in to a room that promptly started having a leak from the bathroom ceiling. This was an air conditioner leak. We had to then change rooms, and about 3 days later the air conditioner in the new room stopped working. They did not bother to investigate but said they would set an appointment with the HVAC company the following day. AC randomly started working again about an hour before HVAC arrived the following evening. They walked in, stated “it feels like it’s working” and did not check ANYTHING. Then, 2 days later, AC once again stopped working and guess what, leaking in the bathroom ceiling again. They offered to switch our rooms yet again, but at that point we decided to spend the remainder of our vacation at a different resort, and will no longer be returning to Kona Coast resort. Highly recommend going elsewhere.

  2nd time visit, can’t wait to go back. Family friendly

  I love this place, it’s the second time I’ve been and I can’t wait to be back. The location can’t be beat as it’s walkable to everything, right on the water, and even has its own private beach with umbrellas and chairs. It’s also an incredible deal for a waterfront resort with amenities. Hot tip- Priceline gave us a rate about $600 cheaper than the Marriott Bonvoy site, so it you’re not using points, that’s the way to go. The pool is steps away from the beach and it’s very family friendly so my son made friends in an instant. The pool service was great, James especially and the bartender (blonde, I’m sorry I forgot to ask your name!) didn’t mind my bizarre drink requests. The pool special of pasta with bacon and shrimp was terrific. The front desk staff is warm, welcoming and extremely helpful. The bellhops were kind and accommodating, and the staff at the restaurant were wonderful too. Everyone from the host to the servers were friendly and on point. Marie was especially sweet when we had the prime rib and snows crab buffet- don’t sleep on that, it was incredible! There is a shaved ice place and coffee shop for breakfast and snacks on the first floor that we really enjoyed. The lox bagel at the coffee shop was terrific. It’s a quick trip uber to and from the airport, and walkable to restaurants, a strip mall, even the goodwill. We love Kona and the King Kamehameha hotel, will definitely be back.
