Not Impressed by the Size or Depth of your Pool

I have visited the different Hawaiian Islands since the 80s. My recent stay at the Autograph property owned by The Marriott was lackluster. Their entire marketing seems to revolve around their pool. Personally, I think the pools are nice, but nothing special. The Aulani on Oahu has nicer pools. They lack a proper beachfront. To go to the beach you have to walk to the nearby Sheraton or the Public Poipu Beach. The hotel has one restaurant with subpar food with luxury prices. Go eat at Living Foods or another local place with better, less expensive, and healthier food. The staff were very friendly and helpful. That said, I was surprised when the concierge wanted a $172 tip for helping us book a trip. In the past, all concierges I’ve worked with have refused tips as they are salaried employees. Last but certainly not least, I felt welcomed as a person of the LGBT by staff, but the other hotel guests were a different story. I have never had this experience on Maui or Oahu. Holding hands has never felt so transgressive.

    Nice place to stay.

The overall property is really nice. The adult pool was a huge plus. Surprisingly, all of our meals at the pool Grill was exceptional. The bartenders were very hospitable as well. The gym was average and I thought the spa was a little on the pricey side. Otherwise, my wife and I had a grand time.

Koloa Landing Magic - Marriott here we come!

There are times in life where something small makes a big difference due to timing. I wish I could tell the who story, but that would bore you. What I can say is that Hawaii is magical. This resort is next level due to its pools, waterfalls, infinity pool, hot tubs, and most importantly, its service. We've traveled all over the world and have found that miscommunications happen and that it's not always easy to provide a world class experience. But where the rubber hits the road is in the service recovery. We experienced a minor miscommunication that didn't end up being a big deal. The initial response felt adequate for a resort of this type, but little did we know what Xeniah at the front desk had in store for us! Unknown to us, she was just ending her shift and took care of us behind the scenes. She then surprised us with a surprise that causes some emotion with me.... and I don't get emotional. My father recently passed away and I'm recovering from some pretty well earned burn out from work and responsibilities. This vacation with my wife and daughters is something that I need. Xeniah surprised us with a room that is perfect and has more room for the girls and their accessories. What could've ended up being a trial of my patience, is now going to be an amazing time where we have some space. I'm switching over to Marriott from over a decade with Hilton as a Diamond. If y'all come to Kauai, give Koloa Landing your business, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Should not be in the Autograph Collection! Owners need to invest more $$ first

We stayed Xmas week as a family of 4 (kids 11 & 15) and we would not return. We are Marriott Ambassador and have stayed at many Marriott and non Marriott properties all over the world. This property is 3.5 star at best which also reflects the service and the level of energy from the employees at the resort (it was low) esp for Xmas week. If your usual go to hotel brand is the Four Seasons or Ritz etc you will be disappointed despite all the 4 & 5 star reviews. Pls read the 1, 2 and 3 star reviews on TA before booking. There are very limited activities on the island and even fewer at the resort. They did nothing for Xmas day / week despite having many families with much younger kids staying. The food at all the restaurants we ate at was mediocre at best and the prices were crazy! Dukes was the worst. The things that make the resort at best a 3.5 star: 1. The pool areas are fine - nothing special and certainly not sure how they claim to be “number 1 pool in America”! The chairs are basic loungers and there is no pool service 2. Breakfast was good and all from a preset menu. Service was slow even when not busy and usually without a smile. 3. Not a beach front property but you can hire chairs and umbrellas for $10 each and take to any of the public beaches 4. Close to Poipu beach and various shops / restaurants The things that require investment and care from the owners: 1. The room we had was very outdated and worn out. The whole resort is actually in need of a refurb. Either they are about to be bought out and waiting to spend money or the owners are cheap and don’t want to invest. 2. The sofa bed was awful. On our first night each time the kids moved we could hear it from our room with the door closed! We let them know and they put a board under the base and another duvet as a topper which helped. This has been consistent feedback but yet not fixed. 3. No real bar or lounge - can’t get an after dinner drink. Nowhere to hang out after dinner. 4. The family lagoon pool has no drinks or towel service so you have to bring everything from the other pool 5. No meaningful entertainment at all even during Xmas week. There was a singer at the restaurant for an hour during Xmas dinner which ended at 9pm. 6. The onsite restaurant is very non descriptive - there is nothing that says Hawaiian or Kauai about it. This applies to the whole resort - we could have been on any other island in the Caribbean to be honest. 7. We found quite a few large cockroaches in the room and although they gave me some compensation they were unable to spray the room as it was Xmas week We chose the hotel due to the positive reviews on TA but the price point did not provide the level of service we had hoped for this and we would not return.
