Dec 26, 2025Roaches at La Playa Orient Bay
Booked this St Maarten hotel for a five night stay in celebration of my husband's 50th birthday. At the end of the second night, we returned from dinner to find a HUGE roach in the bathroom. Upon closer inspection, there was also a baby roach.It was after hours and the front desk we were told at check in was open 24 hrs was not staffed.By the time security arrived, another one crawled into plain view in the sitting area. We were disgusted and insisted that our room be switched. Security obliged but this was short-lived. I emailed the Concierge immediately and did not get a reply. The next day we went to Reception to explain but they already knew because a staff member acknowledged getting my email and expressed no concern other to say forcefully "you cannot stay in that room, wait for the manager." We waited and met with the manager (Katy) who tried to tell us it's an island and bugs come with the territory. Her attitude was quite condescending and it was clear she was aware they had roaches to even insult our intelligence by saying that. We were informed that they were at capacity and we could not keep the new room. The only solution offered was to give us the original roach infested room. When we pushed back, her next resolve was to say if you don't want to stay here then leave. At this point, it was clear we were no longer wanted or welcomed. I do wonder if the treatment we received from Katy would differ if we were French or Caucasian. My husband and I are well traveled and have never had an issue with roaches during a stay. That is a clear lack of cleanliness and disregard to treat the problem. The only good thing that came out of this was the remainder of our stay was refunded. However, the lack of courtesy and professionalism was in bad taste. We ending up booking another stay and left. Bottom line is looks are deceiving and trust those few bad reviews. I went back and saw another guest in June 2025 had roaches as well. If I saw that prior, I would never have booked this establishment.

Dec 17, 2025La Playa Orient Bay: Crown Jewel of the French West Indies
We had a fantastic stay at La Playa Orient Bay. It was clear from start to finish that this is the crown jewel of the French West Indies – serine and sublime. Our room was luxurious, the location was perfectly situated on the beach and near Orient Bay Square with a variety of top-notch restaurants and boutique shops. And the complimentary breakfasts were always Best of was the the staff––so helpful and hospitable, responsive and kind. Each recommendations was excellent and really helped elevate our experience in Saint Martin. When I visit again, I will only stay at La Playa Orient Bay!

Amazing!
Currently staying here with friends. The hotel is beautiful and well maintained. The rooms are big , well appointed and clean. They look new! Breakfast has a wide selection, including eggs, scrambled and hard boiled, bacon and sausages, bread, fruit and sweet breads. There is no dinner at the hotel. The beach is stunning. There's some drink service on the beach as well as a bar. The people who work here are absolutely fantastic. They are welcoming and very friendly. We are so happy with our choice. Will definitely return!

Excellent boutique hotel that is right on the beach!
My wife and I booked an impromptu trip to La Playa for a quick break from the daily hustle. It was our first time staying here, and we only learned about it from the Internet. Our stay was exactly what we needed! Very relaxing, excellent service, and a comfortable, quaint, hotel. A special THANK YOU to Elena for making our stay absolutely delightful. She offered us an upgraded room, made herself available for any special requests, and helped us with dinner recommendations/reservations. Our room was bright, airy, and impeccably clean. The daily maid service was awesome. The included breakfast buffet was a nice touch, as we had coffee each morning with our toes in the sand. It was easy to get beach lounge chairs each day, and the beach attendants were extremely polite and brought drinks and lunch to our beachfront loungers each day. There are a number of restaurants in the village across the street, and the food there was incredible. If you are looking for a charming, relaxing, and very chill location, this is your place. We rarely go back to the same place twice, but we are already planning a return trip to La Playa in the spring.

Everything But The Glitz
We were totally satisfied with our visit. Great location, large room with ocean view. Friendly and helpful staff. Peaceful pool, short walk to beautiful Orient Bay Beach and many restaurants in the village. Rooms are spacious, super clean and comfortably furnished. Automatic airconditioning. Daily housekeeping staff cared about the results. Restaurant has buffet breakfast and special coffees. The open air dining room (water views) serves lunch with a solid menu and very good sushi. Alexandra provides oversight and very thoughtful service. Pleasant bar with good beverage choices. We were aware of LaPlaya due to a previous lunch visit and we are very glad we booked this stay. No glitz, but a very solid hotel resort choice.
