    So Close to Perfect

This might be a long one because there is so much to say, so grab a tea or a cocktail and settle in. To kick it off, you should know we stayed in the Unique section which I would highly recommend. Accommodations 5/5: our room was gorgeous with a large balcony and a shower big enough for a party. There were lots of towels and amenities. We had a Nespresso coffee machine in the room which was perfect for that morning jolt of caffeine. We also were given 2 small bottles of rum, 2 bottles of Prosecco, beer, and a bottle of rosé wine plus some snacks and assorted other beverages. Being Unique, they also gave us a nice beach bag which I used daily. There were beach towels in the room too which was a nice touch. The air conditioning worked great, a few nights we actually had to turn it off because we got too chilly. Food 4/5: we ate dinner at the specialty restaurants as well as both the regular buffet and the Unique buffet for lunch. Their main buffet had a lot of options and everything was quite tasty. The Unique buffet was much smaller but included a BBQ where you chose what meat you wanted and they prepared it to your order. The calamari here was amazing. The other items here seemed to be a step up from the main buffet as well. For our dinners we ate at the steakhouse twice; amazing and our favourite meal of the trip (5/5). The steak was so tender and flavourful. We also ate at the Mexican twice (5/5). I loved it but the options were limited for my husband who has diabetes so needs to avoid carbohydrates. We also tried the Mediterranean (3/5) where we had a free lobster dinner because we were Unique. It was just okay; the lobster was overcooked and both our appetizers and desserts were less yummy than the buffet. We ate at the Italian (3/4) one night. The pizza and pasta were okay, pasta was slightly overcooked but the worst thing here was the swordfish. It was so overcooked and dry that my husband couldn’t eat it. At the French restaurant (4/5) the ambiance was lovely, it felt like a high end restaurant. Again, the food was okay but not great. Drinks 4/5: it really depended on not only the bar, but the bartender on how the drinks turned out. At the adults only pool bar and the Unique ocean bar the drinks were top notch. At the restaurants they were hit or miss with the worst being at the French restaurant where they used way too much sweet vermouth in their Manhattan. At the lobby bar, I had the best Manhattan one day and the worst Manhattan on another day (they used dry vermouth rather than sweet). I also ordered a Whisky Sour and they used scotch in it rather than bourbon. The house wine at this resort was much better than we’ve had at other all inclusives. The Prosecco and the white wine were both delicious and refreshing. The rosé and red were also quite good. Beach 4.5/5: the sand was like powder and there were always lots of chairs available. Other people have complained about the boats parked there but it didn’t bother us. We even were able to get wifi on the beach. On our last day it was very windy and there seemed to be a lot of trash in the water. This is why my rating isn’t a 5. We ended up going back to the pool because it was pretty nasty. Not sure this was the resort’s fault but just something to note. Adults Only Pool 5/5: this was one of the best features of the resort. We are normally beach people but at this resort we became pool people. Again, there were always lots of chairs and the temperature of the water was perfect. There was a foam party here one day which was so much fun and not at all crowded. It was just the perfect place to relax, swim, read and have a cocktail or four. Staff 5/5: Victor was our butler and he was fantastic. He was helpful without being pushy and was so kind. He was able to get us into our restaurant of choice on our first night and also decorated our room for my birthday. We’ve always hesitated to book a room with a butler before because we’ve not had great experiences but we loved Victor. There are three other people I want to mention. Claribel and Domingo at the adults pool were amazing. They always had a smile and seemed very happy. Claribel was so sweet, she made little hearts with our drink straws. And then there was Luis who was security at the adults pool. He was so friendly and funny. He seemed truly happy to see us each day. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced this kind of friendliness before. Entertainment 3/5: this was the biggest let down for us. We love music and dancing but this seemed lacking to us. There really wasn’t much to do until late at night; most music started at 11. The disco was really cool looking but they didn’t play any modern dance music, it was all salsa. There was a white party at the beach one night that was fun with good music but the majority of the dancing was line dancing. They also put on a fire show this night. The theatre set up was really good but the talent was the same every night and was just okay. We had a good night at the sports bar but the pub was very quiet. Overall: I would definitely return to this resort and would stay in the Unique section again. Unique gave you access to your own areas plus the adults only areas. The people who work here are lovely and really contributed to our enjoyment. The pools and beaches were wonderful and the drinks were flowing. Food could be improved but we certainly didn’t go hungry. Don’t hesitate, just book it.

    It's worth the stay

Now that I've experienced Lopesan, I can honestly say there was no mouldy smell, there was mostly good staff that I came across, but I also try to speak a little Spanish even basics such as hello and thank you, and I'm generally pleasant, some people are naturally miserable or demanding when dealing with staff and I suppose lack of understanding can lead to confusuon or bad service in people's eyes. The food isn't great at all, its all hit and miss, besides breakfast/lunch. But me and my partner both agreed it's because they are trying to create something they have never experienced nor been trained to make. They're basically creating dishes from various cultures by reading from a book, same with the drinks...they don't even know how any of it is supposed to taste. But overall, I had a great time. The place is big enough for it.

    Beautiful grounds

Jose was definitely the highlight of our experience. He was part of our UNIQUE experience and was extremely attentive and helpful to ensure we had a great time. If you’re looking for great food this is not the resort for you but the grounds are beautiful.

    Horrible stay! Never again.

We would like to share with you the experience we had so far. We arrived at the hotel on January 6th. The room they gave us had a terrible and unbearable smell. The light in the room turned on and off by itself, at 3 am while we were sleeping, it looked like in a horror movie. The day after our arrival, January 8, we booked at the Al Asador restaurant. I ordered a Barbeque Lamb dish (photo of the dish is below). Our reservation was at 8:15 p.m. We left the restaurant at 9 p.m. At 10 p.m., I started to feel unwell but it was still bearable. At 4 a.m. the pain in the stomach had become unbearable, accompanied by severe nausea and diarrhoea. Around 8 a.m., we went down to the hotel clinic and since I was really unwell, they sent me in an ambulance to the hospital. After several analyses, it turned out that it was the parasites caused by the meat we had eaten in the restaurant. During our HONEYMOON, I had to spend 2 DAYS in the hospital which cost 4200 dollars in addition to the 80 dollars of the UBER in addition to the 50 dollars of the communication with my Canadian insurer. The worst in this whole story is the arrogance of the hotel staff. We spoke to the customer service supervisor based at the hotel, with all the arrogance in the world, this person refused to let us meet the manager to make a claim and on top of that, he had the nerve to tell us that the hotel does not control what we eat and that even if the infected food was served to us by their restaurant, we had to not have chosen this dish. I am stunned by the reaction of the staff and shocked by this behaviour to know that we have not even heard a little sorry for the situation. It's a shame that this hotel does not care about the lives of its guests, a hotel that does not control the products and food served in their restaurants. If someone dies from an infection caused by food, the fault will automatically be rejected on the customer. We tried to find an amicable solution before going through the legal process but the arrogance and reaction of the staff member leaves us speechless

    An Amazing Wedding Week

I recently returned from hosting our wedding at the resort. We had a large group of nearly 75 join us and everyone has had great things to share with us in regards to their experience and the resort. Maria on the events team was incredible to work with throughout the process and was amazing on wedding day she made our day so special. Jose and Johan on the Unique butler team were also awesome fulfilling last minute requests and making sure we had the best time! We can not wait to return next year.
