Very good experience with some bad aftertaste

I’d give the Bahía Sain Khaan 4 +++ stars. Excellent food, clean room; good pools, etc I didn’t give 5 star for just 2 reasons: 1. Bad situation with cleaning seaweeds on the beach and in the water. If you built a barrier, try to maintain the cleanness on the beach. 2. Lobby bar service: not bad but some bartenders lied about liquor brands that they didn’t have them but actually were hidden on the bottom shelf. Don’t be cheap ! You actually don’t have really premium brands! Hennessy VS should be standard. The other bars at Bahía have it on display among other brands and service it without asking twice while Sain Khaan was trying to hide them from guests. Last year I stayed at Royalton and saw and had Hennessy VSOP. With top shelf brands it was serviced with no limit for all guests! And here - very disappointing. One small thing- bad aftertaste. I’m not a heavy drinker even on vacation: my maximum is 2 drinks in the evening but I prefer some brand to another. What I would prised are the restaurants and especially main buffet . The food quality and variety are well above expectations. And great service. Front desk, maid service, waiters - thank you so much for your hard work.

    Realistically a 4 star

This hotel is advertised as TUI platinum, and with reasonable reviews and what appears to be numerous returning guests, we thought we would be in good hands. I genuinely believe this hotel is visited mainly by die hard grand Bahía Príncipe fans, many you speak too have visited a significant amount of times and I do think are blind to this hotels flaws. Of which there are many. After a 9.5hour flight and an almost 2 hour transfer, we arrived. We received a warm welcome, and quick check in. Promptly taken to our room and the bell boys kindly carried our bags to a second floor room. When we arrived we couldn’t help but be disappointed. We were upgraded into a junior suite room superior. If you’ve stayed elsewhere in the Caribbean or 5 star hotels, be prepared, these rooms are small. The balcony was overlooked completely. The roller blinds were broken but we unpacked and stayed here for 1 night. The restaurants, presumably in an attempt to make upmarket a all inclusive buffet like to seat you at a table for your meal and then Proceed to take 5/10 mins to bring you water or a drink order. I have to stress, this will not be the experience of the regular guests and those which tip at every encounter. The following day we discovered our shower was broken, it was not hot nor did it want to stay attached to the wall. We decided we really disliked the room and went to reception to see upgrade options. I have to say the front desk staff here are some of the most incompetent professionals I have ever encountered when travelling. After grunting at us that we could, we were then shown the options. 2 rooms - 1 standard junior suite and 1 junior suite garden with a jacuzzi. For $276 dollars we upgraded to the jacuzzi room. We then had to check out of our first room at 12 and then wait until 3pm for the new room to be ready. They collected our bags for us and dropped them off so no hassle as such. When we checked in to the new room, more problems began, the safe did not work, a light was out, the jacuzzi bath was broken. A member of staff walking by noticed we had filled the hot tub but not got in it, and called maintenance. Considering this is the only benefit of paying for this room as such, we were disappointed. It took the hotel 2 further follow up calls and a further hour for someone to attend. When they did they resolved it within an hour and then offered us a free ticket to a show at the hotel which we accepted and got on with our day. That evening we then went to go to the portobello restaurant, a pre booked a la carte Italian option. We only booked this simply to have a change of scenery not because we were expecting good Italian food in Mexico. So as the map said, we made our way to this restaurant only to find it to be closed. After what had been a pretty disastrous day we were less than impressed especially as could only get an 8pm reservation here. To our surprise, when we came back to our hotel to report our experience to the front desk, ‘Willy’ asked us why we hadn’t taken a picture and that this restaurant was actually open. A further debated ensued for a further 45 mins or so between him, a lady who claimed to be the manager who we later found out was not all accusing us of lying and missing our reservation. As I say, we were not that bothered it was simply to say let guests know as we had a long day and travelled to the other side of the complex for a meal. Igor, an actual manager contacted us a couple of days later and offered us a discount on our upgrade and to speak with the staff member involved as he had found out that the restaurant was relocated due to refurbishments. Why they don’t communicate this, I am not sure. So if you book this restaurant check first! Then the service generally, our holiday continued in a hassle free fashion. But do not expect the world here. If you go on holiday to Europe, this is similar to a 4 star there. Dirty sunbeds, poor service and lack lustre food is the order of the day. The e witnessed staff calling young girls ‘sexy ladies’ on one occasion on the beach we waited half hour for 2 drinks, only then to be forgotten because the bar men were lusting over two girls. Ignoring everyone else. This was Jorge and another male colleague. I know this sound privileged but it’s quite basic, don’t offer the service if you can’t handle it They honestly do nothing here for free so tip tip tip would be my advice if you want a good experience. If you want branded spirits at the bar you have to ask as the standard stuff is awful. Avoid these: Alux restaurant - it’s poor and designed to be gourmet. What it is is all inclusive food in small portions on a posh plate Katak- made my husband ill, a steak restaurant that asks you to check the steak when they bring it to see if it’s done right Oh and don’t bother with room service, one time it never even showed up. On check out they had forgotten about the room discount offered, more messing about later we finally left. To be honest, don’t fly half way round the world from the UK to come here. It’s average at best, we got a good deal really and it still feels over the odds. Try other places in the Caribbean but I can’t recommend this

    Absolutely worth it! Loved everything!

We loved the resort! I was a bit surprised it was so far from the airport, almost 2 hours to get there with the shared shuttle, but the actual experience was just perfect. The resort was a bit quieter and smaller than the other family ones which we loved. We could travel to the other resorts anytime we wanted for a larger experience, but having the quieter one to come back to was lovely. The buffet food was also great and all the restaurants were wonderful, especially the steak house. I loved that each restaurant had a signature drink! The activity staff was very fun and lively too. We enjoyed activities we normally wouldn't have even tried. One piece of advice: the shops at the Hacienda are honestly better priced than the local markets! Don't spend the time and money driving to town for your shopping. That's the one regret I have.

You need to read this before you book!!!

I've spent 20 years in hospitality working front desk at a 4-star hotel, as a chauffeur, and backcountry tour guide. I mention that because I've worked in these roles, so I know the challenges these operations face and set my expectations low knowing what the staff deal with every day. My "par for the course" if you will is a little better service than I'd receive at any chain Motel in America. My wife and I stayed for a week to celebrate her birthday and knew ahead that we were going to get what we were paying for. We also know how hard these staff members work and always bring plenty of cash to tip all the staff who assist us (something that we did not see many others doing. If you can't afford to tip the staff you can't afford to go!) Here's a breakdown of our experience: Pros: Private Driver to the hotel (although we had to wait 10 minutes) Accommodation and all facilities were very comfortable A la carte restaurants were delicious (loved Mediterano, Ku'uk, Mikado, and Alux.) Par 3 golf course was beautiful, fun, and challenging Coffee machine at Cenote (however it was broken one morning) Staff were always warm and accommodating especially Carlos at the pool bar and Giovanni at the Akumal desk. Happy birthday sign on the door and chocolates delivered for my wife's birthday The Akumal adults-only beach Neutral: Spa Pools/beach On-property transportation system No beach/pool service (get your own drinks) No breakfast buffet option after 10:30 am (bummer after late arrival) Took almost an hour for room service to bring water (since none was replenished) Kicked a rock at the beach and skinned the front of my big toe. The lifeguard came down and bandaged me up (we keep a first aid kit so no issue with follow-up med supplies but could have been an issue if we didn't) Buffet food at all locations was edible but not good Cons: Pool/Beach towels. Never received them at check-in, checked back the next morning still none were available so we were told to get them from the property we were visiting. The towel lady there told me to speak with the front desk, the front desk called over and told me to get back on a tram to get towels at my hotel. Luckily spoke with a manager who found us two, but ruined our relaxing birthday beach day. We travel often and would have brought our travel beach towels had we known how frustrating this would have been. Spoke with the manager at the desk but no solution was ever offered. Had the room cleaned but the minibar was not refreshed until Day 5. Being in MX and unable to drink the water this made no sense. If I wanted to drink beer 24/7 no problem, but if I wanted to stay hydrated I had to leave the room in search of a water refill station which all closed down around 8 pm. We always bring reusable water bottles, but it's frustrating to have to rely on them at an all-inclusive. The room only had 2 days' worth of coffee packets which were also not replenished which meant that 2 mornings I had to leave the room in my PJs to get coffee and bring it back to enjoy on our balcony. Called to have the bellman help with the luggage when leaving due to my toe injury. He pulled out behind a stopped truck in the road which proceeded to back up and hit the cart we were in. I have quick reactions so I was able to jump out of the way, but could have easily resulted in a severe injury had I not had my wits. About 7 people showed up within 30 seconds to take photos and talk with each other. Wasn't until the new driver picked us up that we were even asked if we were ok. The front desk was quick to get a statement but did not offer any apology or so much as a discount on any of our room expenses which they had no problem charging before asking for our statements. The private driver back showed up 10 minutes late and was going noticeably faster than all the traffic he was weaving in and out of. Nearly hit 3 other vehicles including a 1 foot miss while doing 70mph. Drove so poorly that another driver cut him off and flipped him off, making us fear some sort of retaliation about to occur. As a former professional driver, I was aghast that this was the type of driver the hotel would employ and that we paid extra for that experience! Conclusion: This was the 4th all-inclusive we've been to and was the most disappointing in our travels. We chose to go to the Riviera Maya on this trip (having done Cabo and Puerto Vallarta in the past) to experience a new place, but it was disappointing, and do not expect to return. My parents were planning to join and after our experience, I'm glad they were unable to attend. If you're looking to stay in the area, consider other options.

Excellent stay except the Beach Bar service.

The experience was great except the little hotel beach area including the bar service. There is a guy there [Beach Bar] called Santiago showing the worst customer service I've ever seen. He and his team of 2 more guys including a lady maybe called Lucinda were really rude and very unrespecful with us and all the guests there. They do not deserve be part of the wonderful BP team. Managers have to be pending of supervise these 3 guys while they work so far of the hotel. The rest of the services were great mentioning Roberto at the front desk and Daniel in the Restaurant Buffet. Excellent stay except the bad experience at the beach bar.
