Other than its name, there is absolutely nothing magical about this hotel. I would not recommend it.

The staff's attitude was consistently unfriendly and unaccommodating. The hotel manager was unavailable for most of our stay, and repeated requests to meet with her were declined under various pretexts. The entire guest experience appeared to be driven by excessive cost-cutting and an unreasonable reliance on rigid policies rather than customer service. Although our room was ready upon arrival, we were denied access because check-in was scheduled for 3:00 PM and staff insisted on adhering to policy without any flexibility. When we discovered that a towel was missing, instead of simply providing a replacement, we were warned that we could be charged for it. Upon check-out, we were asked to remain in the lobby for approximately fifteen minutes while staff inspected the room to verify that no items had been removed. Having stayed at many hotels over the years, never had such a "service". During my stay, I became ill and requested that a doctor visit my room. Rather than assisting the situation, I was instructed to go to the lobby and bring the doctor up myself. Despite displaying a "Do Not Disturb" sign, hotel staff entered our room and searched through our belongings. When challenged, this conduct was again justified as being part of the hotel's policy. As mentioned, when I asked to speak with the elusive hotel manager, the receptionist lied and claimed that she herself was the manager. What's even more disturbing is that many of the issues I encountered are repeatedly mentioned in other guests' reviews. Clearly, this is not a matter of a few poorly trained employees. The problem appears to be institutional. The mistrust, hostility, invasion of privacy, obsession with rules, and complete lack of customer service are not occasional mistakes. They seem to be the result of a management policy that prioritizes control and cost-cutting over basic hospitality and respect for guests.

One of my favourite ever hotels !

I am an extremely experienced traveller both for business ( now retired ) and leisure and this is one of my favourite hotels ever. It is like a little oasis right in the centre of Playa del Carmen. Walking distance to everything and such a peaceful retreat to head back to. The rooms are large, airy , bright and clean with lovely bed linen. The pool / bar area is fantastic and the centre point of the hotel. No problem getting a sunbed at any time. Free water and pool towels. Prices for food and drinks at the bar very reasonable . Mini bar in room cheap too ! Good air con and room safe. Hot water is a little slow to come through but not a problem. The Brazilian restaurant attached to the hotel has a very good buffet breakfast. Last but not least, the staff here are absolutely brilliant especially Vanessa and Rosa on reception, the lady concierge Natjilly and the two barmen Daniel and Manuel. They all took very good care of me during my total of 17 nights with them. On my departure day I was even presented with a small World Cup related gift from the staff which almost brought a tear to my eye ! I cannot really recommend PD Carmen itself but I also cannot recommend this gem of a hotel highly enough. Thanks again to all the staff . Allan xx

    Nice but wouldn’t stay again

Stayed 4 nights. Good location. Upgraded to villa for bath and wasn’t unable it was so dirty. Eaten alive at breakfast 50 plus bites as we had to have breakfast on the terrace. Didn’t have breakfast there again. The mosquitos were a nightmare around the pool and in the rooms. Might have been better if they sprayed them of an evenings

We are extremely dissatisfied with the hotel. There were ants in the rooms, on our clothes. The rooms smelled, the windows did not open. The staff was incompetent and constantly did not understand what was being said to them. They accused us of stealing two towels from our rooms and made us pay for them afterwards - oh my god how could we steal towels that are so miserable and smell like mold. I would never visit this terrible hotel again and I do not recommend it to anyone. Scammers!

Absolutely stunning gem of a hotel

This is one of the best places I have ever stayed, everything was spot on. Super friendly staff that you really should get to know, they all work very hard. If you have any questions the concierge will help you with any info at all (make sure to ask about the beach clubs they recommend, we used both (Martina Beach club was our favorite Ibiza style music very comfy loungers and excellent staff) the other was INTI beach much quieter and no loud music) Water was given to us immediately on arrival, easy check in and Vicktor is on hand to take your luggage to your room (don't forget his tip !) I have seen a few moans about the breakfast being in the restaurant which is not on site but it is ! its right through the door from the garden so I do not understand the issue here, also the food is excellent and lots of choices including the Omelet bar which I loved. You are limited to one free hot drink each but I am pretty sure you can purchase more also juice is refilled free, the staff are lovely, be nice to them and you will get the reward. The restaurant 'Ipanema's' is also worth eating at in the evening if you are a meat eater you will love it ! . The staff must have taken note from my Passport that it was my Birthday because they decorated our room which was a wonderful surprise and really made the stay extra special. This hotel has a beautiful pool and loungers and is so so quiet considering its is 1 block from 5th Avenue, so now to the other issue some people may have, there is a huge club opposite the hotel called Coco Bongo, as far as I could tell, the only noisy night was Friday but we couldn't hear it in our room as we had air con on in the room and it absolutely did not keep us awake. There is a lovely spa on site which is immaculate and as a guest you can use it for 30 mins every day for free just let the girls know what time you would like, they will ask you if you would like treatments at extra cost but there definitely no hard sell from these lovely ladies., ask them to show you round. Check out is 12pm but if you ask nicely they will let you stay and have lunch and use the pool, I can only guess the other reviewers do not know how to ask politely if its possible to stay on a few hours whilst waiting for you airport car/bus etc...it was no problem and very welcomed. This is a very secure hotel and they don't allow you to bring non guests in, there is no way anyone can just wander through the grounds either which brings comfort so you know your room is safe, talking of safes...its free and in the room near the fridge. The location is superb, such an oasis in the middle of town and few minutes walk to the beaches, don't forget to explore the other streets as we found the food to be better and better value ie Marguerita's on the 5th avenue 800 pesos and 180 pesos in a bar on the side street, tasted the same. Its totally safe to explore and we soon felt relaxed to be here, just keep an awareness as with any place strange and you will be fine. I would totally stay here again I have zero bad things to say about the whole experience and I didn't want to leave. Thank you with all my heart to the staff here..Natlally, Brenda, Vicktor, and Mercedes from Ipanema's.
