  Excellent staff and a great overall value

  We spent 5 nights in a 2BR Family Suite at the Marival Emotions Resort in Puerto Vallarta – overall I give a 4 out of 5 rating, even though I was really tempted to give the full 5 points. Why this resort deserves the full 5 marks: I’ve stayed at dozens of all-inclusive resorts across Mexico and the Caribbean as well as a few in other countries around the world, and the staff at Marival are among the finest I’ve ever met – regardless of hotel class. Everyone genuinely appeared to want guests to have a great experience. From the restaurants to bars to the sports and entertainment crews to cleaners and handymen, staff was attentive, engaging and always pleasant and trying to do an excellent job. The staff by far stands out as the number one reason to stay with Marival Emotions. I’ve seen a few reviews critiquing the challenge in getting dinner reservations and the need to line up early to guarantee a spot. While I agree that the reservation system is outdated with most resorts now either not requiring reservations or having much simpler booking processes, we had no problem securing times during our stay. I went to the reservation desk around noon on a Wednesday and got reservations for Silk and Amalfi later in the week. We ate at La Pergola another night (a la carte Mexican), had the regular buffet one night and also had a Mexican themed night in the area around the buffet so dinner never felt repetitive. Our kids also tried Piazzeta dei Forni and enjoyed the pizza (but the rest of the food here was average). Bar service was great everywhere, even if drinks weren’t always the strongest. For the value though, the food and drink were a great deal as I’ve paid a lot more and received a lot less elsewhere! We never had problems getting chairs by the pool and we usually arrived around 11 or so. We preferred the pool chairs because we were more comfortable leaving our things there and going to the beach vs. leaving our things on the public beach. Our kids enjoyed swimming in both the ocean as well as the pools. The ocean can get a little rough but it’s fairly shallow for a good distance and still safe. Why this resort deserves less than full marks: I really wanted to give full marks but I can’t overlook two things because Marival explicitly advertises these perks. First is that our room category is advertised as including turndown service – we didn’t receive turndown service on any of the nights we were there. Second is that the room also comes with voucher access to one of the beach clubs (typically reserved for members). What they don’t tell you is that access is not free but discounted (told we would pay $60 for our family of four) and that to receive the voucher we have to first attend the timeshare presentation. Having attended these at other resorts in the past, this was a hard pass for me and not worth the voucher. If the two items above were not advertised as benefits to be expected, I would not have noticed their absence and would give a 5/5 for the value of what the hotel does provide. I would encourage the team to either provide these services as described, or remove them entirely from the website and any other promotional materials. The resort is a little dated and it’s starting to show. Like most resorts in the region, the finishing isn’t always “finished” so you’ll find parts of the walls (corners) not completely painted and windows and doors not completely sealed. That means you might get a few bugs or other things in your room from time to time – we expected that but good for travelers to be aware (and the newest resorts are a little better). Overall though, a wonderful few days with the family at Marival Emotions and I would recommend the resort to other families too.

  Eugenio at pergola had such amazing service! We are here for a 6 day trip and by far this has been the best service yet! He was extremely attentive and made sure my 2 daughters had everything that they needed to make sure we had an incredible experience! If you’re at Marival, you definitely need to come check out Eugenio’s amazing service!
