Community kitchen ?
We always enjoy our stay at Marriott. We stayed in a newly renovated 1 bedroom in the lanai tower. It was very good. Everything in the unit was first class , except for the small fridge with no ice maker. The other crazy thing was there is no stove or hot plate to cook with. There is a kitchen facility that we did use once near the front desk . A community kitchen at a first class resort ? Not the best idea ! The tower we were in only had one elevator that was close to the main entrance. This building needs an additional elevator near the beach entrance . The staff were great although very short handed

Great stay at the Marriott vacation club in Maui
We had a wonderful stay at the Marriott Vacation Club in Maui. Our villa was nicely updated and extremely spacious—we stayed in a two-bedroom, three-bath villa with three decks, which gave us plenty of room to relax and enjoy the views. One pleasant surprise was being able to check in early, which made the arrival day even better. The pool area is very well done, with plenty of pool space and a great overall atmosphere. My only minor complaint is that the pool could use a bit more sun coverage. While the straw umbrellas are attractive, they don’t fully cover four chairs, so one chair often ends up exposed to the sun—especially as it gets busier and chairs are moved closer together. Also, they heat the pool in the evening. I recommend that they start heating the pool even during the day as the water is very cold. The beach was beautiful and easily accessible. I was initially concerned about not having in-unit laundry, but it turned out to be a non-issue. The laundry facilities on the lower level were convenient, had plenty of machines available, and were free to use. It is still better to have a laundry in your room, but this was workable. We stayed in the Molokai Tower, which was extremely convenient to everything on the property. Another big plus is the location—there are many great restaurants within easy walking distance in the Whalers Village area. Overall, this was a very comfortable and enjoyable stay, and I would absolutely recommend this Marriott Vacation Club for a Maui vacation.

Beautiful ocean views on a great beach
I have reviewed this resort before but have never stayed in an ocean front villa. It was fabulous - wonderful ocean views with beautiful sunsets. As noted these units do not have full kitchens meaning no oven tops or ovens. However you can be very creative with a microwave and BBQ - we had no trouble eating all breakfasts and most dinners in. And there is a wonderful take out restaurant at the resort with reasonable prices and daily specials. Our unit had been refurbished - it was clean and comfortable. Two bathrooms was a luxury. We never worried about getting a spot by the pool as we were off snorkelling or exploring the island in the morning and came back to plenty of chaises on the ocean front lawn in the afternoon. Is this resort perfect - not if you want a full kitchen and in room laundry and a close parking spot. However, I would not hesitate to come back to this wonderful place on Kaanapali Beach.

Avoid this place!
Lots of construction; a closed pool area; beaches have washed away; poor to mediocre food. That about sums up a week at this property. Go elsewhere to a place where you might have a chance of getting a pool chair.

Pictures are VERY MISLEADING!
If we had gone to this Marriott Vacation Club first we probably would not have joined. The location is basically an old Marriott Hotel from 1981 which was converted to a Marriott Vacation Club. The suite is two prior hotel adjoining rooms. One is the primary bedroom and the other serves as the living/dining/kitchen area. There is no full kitchen. The "kitchen" is more like a wet bar with sink, dishwasher, microwave, and toaster. There is midsized refrigerator as you walk into the front of the room and no in room washer or dryer. As far as the resort area the pools are nice but crowded and forget about getting a seat near a pool. All chairs are "reserved" starting early in the morning by other guests using their towels wether they are there or not. It kinda sucks. Prices for food and drinks are also very high for what you get! You can get better quality food and drinks up the beach in the Whalers Village Shopping center for the same prices. For example, you can get probably the best Mai Tai in the entire Hawaiian Island chain at Monkeypod Kitchen for $19; the Mai Tai at the vacation club is the same price but sucks by comparison. It only takes about 10 minutes to walk. The resort picture is also VERY MISLEADING, the beach was wiped out about 3 to 4 years ago. There is absolutely no beach in front of the resort and the erosion is so bad that parts of the resort grass area is starting to fall into the ocean along with a few trees and shrubs. Further up the coast to the north in front of the resort next door the beach walk has actually been washed away. Apparently beach erosion has been a major issue for decades at this location. Bottom line is this Marriott Beach Club is NOT up to the same standards as their other locations around the world. Avoid and go somewhere else.
