  Please bring back the complimentary lobby coffee in the morning..

  My wife and I have been staying at Maui Kai since back in 2005 and have overall loved this hotel for its charm and hospitality.. We remember how there was always free postcards of the hotel as well as fresh free coffee in the lobby area.. This last time we went, there was neither and when I'd asked the lady at the front counter.. She said no.. Hadn't done that in years and basically ran me out of there... There used to be a Hawaiian islander gentleman that worked in the lobby that was very kind to us.. not sure if he retired by now.. But besides that.. it's a nice hotel and if you like that 60-70s feel, this is your place... Sleep- bed was decent and there is AC in the room... Shower is nice and they give you fancy hawaiian smelling soap which we enjoyed.. Food- is walking distance to a lot of places down the way which are easy to get to by foot. Pool- small but you get the whole thing to yourself more then likely.. Grounds- very pretty and nice flowers everywhere.. But be careful you don't step on the island frogs that come out at night there...

  Awful stay

  Check in was quite dysfunctional as after hours contact is nearly impossible. Even the security number referenced was initially no help and I asked who he would call in an emergency, trying to get in-touch with management snd his initial reply “911”. Eventually, after a number of hours he came to the office, made s call and got us access. The room is small and the is no scheduled housekeeping service scheduled for a four day stay. Much in need of refurbishment as the electrical outlets will not hold a plug without rigging. Dead roaches and mold in the room as well as broken knobs. Parking is quite limited. Price is quite high for what you get. Maybe I am not a condo guy but hotels are far better.

  Incredibly Location

  Amazing location! My wife and I have now stayed here twice, and the view is incredible. Amazing ocean views from your room, lanai, and the beach. The beach in front of the property is really quiet for the location. We've seen whales, dolphins, and sea turtles both times. A couple of things to keep in mind about staying in the area: we don't care for the nearby restaurants or the grocery store across the street (eat/shop elsewhere). The housekeeping isn't amazing, but it's solid (our pillows/sheets smelled funky, we traded them in after the first night), and many of the dishes aren't all that clean. Stay here for the location. It's that good.

  Our Return Visit Was Amazing...

  We've stayed here before. Love the setting, love the location, and we love Lahina. This particular property is beautiful, spotlessly clean, and wonderfully staffed. The Maui Kai has multiple condos with a variety of levels to choose. Kalei and front office staff are very helpful before and during your stay. The pool cabana is spotless (it also has an outdoor kitchen and 2 grills that are also - spotless -). Wonderful restaurants, dessert places, and even Times grocery al wishing walking distance. Each unit has a full kitchen so you can dine out or dine in. Perhaps most importantly, each unit is direct oceanfront.

  Spectacular views of the sunset and whales

  Great unit for us. Corner unit with fantastic view of the ocean. Whales and turtles visible every morning. Unit appears to be updated within the last 6 months. New appliances, furniture was high quality. Beach chairs, towels and cooler provided. Need to bring your own canopy or umbrella. Service was great. Highly recommended and we will visit again soon.
