  Great for the kids

  Great family experience. Loved the kids pool area with the kids club and lunch by the splash pool. Staff in kids area were brilliant especially the pregnant lady who was very supportive. Daniel and other restaurant Staff there were attentive and very helpful. We spent a good amount of time there as the kids loved it.

  Don't Do it.

  Scenic Hotel but nowhere near a 5 star rating, food at all restaurants was under cooked, cold and lacked variety. Rooms in poor condition. Pool was Dirty and just pumped full of chlorine. Hygiene regarding cups was terrible.

  Disappointing! This is not 5*

  We are currently mid-way through our holiday and sadly the reviews on TripAdvisor don’t match the reality- today we were told by some other guests that they had been asked to sign a disclaimer acknowledging that they wouldn’t pass on their negative experience (perhaps that’s why TripAdvisor lacks some of the more truthful reviews.) We have given the hotel various opportunities to respond to our complaints (which in fairness aren’t significant) but it’s the lack of care from staff and disregard for service that less this place down. For future guests reading this, be cautions around the Circle orientation that you will be coerced into when you first arrive. The promise of a free meal for attending seems to be very misleading! Staff at Melia- hoping a public review means you will at least try to improve things and acknowledge our disappointment!

  Enjoyable holiday just not 5*

  First time to the Dominican and stayed NON LEVEL as 2 adults and 1 11 year old. Lobby is beautiful and reception staff great and very helpful. Offered to upgrade at check in if you wanted too! Couldn’t fault the staff. travelled with our 11 year old and they offered activities every single day, always plenty going on from cupcake making, hat painting, bracelet making, key chain making etc etc and the staff are great with the kids my daughter was made to feel very welcome! Night time entertainment found it great always something on from shows, white party, silent disco etc always plenty to keep you entertained. Beach is absolutely breathtaking spent many of mornings taking in the sunrise on the beach and it was just heaven on earth! Loved the beach bar too lady was great on there and made some beautiful drinks, also fresh pineapples for $10 with pina colada cocktail in it made with the fresh pineapple absolutely delicious! Sargassum not too bad and cleaned up by tractor daily feel like they do a very good job at keeping it at bay! Done a few sea swims and not as bad as it looks when you’re in there. Pool is absolutely massive and plenty of quieter places away from the bar if that’s what you prefer, never over crowded as it’s so big and plenty of space for everyone! Pool bar was a good touch as it’s quite hot so spent a lot of time in the pool making it handy just to grab a drink. Always plenty of pool entertainment going on from inflatables, foam party with pop up bar, pool games, aqua gym and plenty of sports/ activities on the beach! Grounds immaculate and absolutely beautiful really loved the hotel/ grounds and beach and made up for the few little things that let it down. enjoyed walking around the hotel as there is so much wildlife and beautiful scenery and flowers etc to take in! you will find the gardeners walking round too selling fresh coconuts €5. Resort is very large and we were in block 43 which is closest to the lobby so roughly 10 min walk to pool there is bus stops along the way and 9 times out of 10 there is always a golf caddy trying to pick you up or passing to jump on! I quite enjoyed the walk but the option is always there. Food always found something to eat couldn’t really fault the food.lovely big platters of the most amazing fresh fruit for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Fresh eggs and omelettes for breakfast and lunch burgers/fried chicken etc from beach snack bar, lunch restaurant fresh pasta station/ pizza etc. Dinner varied every night but again loads of fresh salad, pastas, pizza, meat veg etc! Plenty of little cocktail stations around the hotel too which I like in the restaurants, margaritas on tap basically. Service very hit and miss in the restaurants sometimes you’ll have a drink and cutlery before sitting down sometimes you have to go asking for cutlery and lucky to get a drink before leaving it’s very hit and miss. Ala cartes didn’t have a problem booking these they can only be booked for within 2 days in advance there was the odd big Que to book on the odd time but we just avoided waiting and went back at a quieter time no problems booking and can honestly say the food was delicious in all, really enjoyed these restaurants. Fun republic part of the hotel that is all included food/ drinks/ entertainment and activities including an excellent mini golf, massive zip wire climbing frame, small fair ground ride and indoor soft play, honestly if there isn’t enough going on in the hotel to suit you then this is another great evening out with the kids! And is all inclusive just like the hotel offering chips, pizza, chicken and much more! First and most major downfall was the room very very dated, paint on sofa, stained towels, bathroom definitely seen better days I will include some photos definitely not 5* but we did not let this ruin the holiday as we spent very little time in the room! The beds and pillows however very comfortable had some really good nights sleep and was very comfortable And as I said the hotel on a whole was amazing so it made up for this! Mini fridge filled daily and no problems with cleaners tipped both daily and no problems there. Did see a few blocks all being renovated so maybe when completed it will be perfect! Lack of aircon in the hotel I know it’s the Dominican vibe that everywhere is open with ceiling fans even the airport is but I feel the hotel is just lacking somewhere to go that has air con that isn’t your room, the lobby, bars etc are all just ceiling fans and open aired so found it very warm of an evening or nowhere to go during the day/evening that’s cool! Especially it being so warm and humid. Lack of cups and seats in the lobby/ olives bar for evening entertainment. Olives bar is beautiful and where we spent most of our evenings but when your staying at the bar there isn’t enough cups so often served in paper/plastic which was a big downfall for us nice evening cocktail in a paper cup?!?! I understand if you’re getting them to take away during the day or night of course but no. Quite a few broken sun loungers around the pool! That you don’t realise until you sit on! Another time roughly 9am in main buffet breakfast restaurant sat down as a family of 3 no cutlery or napkins ?!?! Asked the lady multiple times and got told they’re cleaning and got given 1 fork. At 9am ? During breakfast rush ? Not good! Just like the massive lack of cups everywhere within the hotel! Had a few issues being denied certain drinks we were entitled to but tried to say we weren’t as we weren’t level! Again not a massive deal but feel these little things people should be aware of as definitely not a 5 star in that sense of things. Again service very hit and miss when you’ve paid and not recieved. Also a little something for people to be aware of as bit of fraudulent activity on our last day, I received an email to checkout via online to save time which I did received my invoice all good, before actually leaving I just checked with reception I checked out online just want to check all is ok before we actually get picked up let me check he said you need a code so I got the check out email confirmation up he had my phone for about 5 minutes doing something on it didn’t think much towards the end my husbands going what’s he doing on your phone I thought you’ve already checked out kept stating oh I’m sorry the internet is bad, got my phone back checked my history to which I found the guest survey open tried to click to complete and it stated sorry you’ve already completed this so he’d completed the survey on my phone which I was mortified by my private work emails also opened up and I felt quite uncomfortable by this and feel like I would of like to have filled this in for myself! I’ve included a few delicious meals from our Ala carte meals, steak house, Italian and Mexican. Overall a good hotel with so much to do and keep you entertained with the most beautiful grounds, beach and pool! With a few downfalls but I think as long as you are aware going then you know what to expect or avoid if the rooms are something that would put you off! As I said first time in the Dominican so can’t really compare.
