    The Day We Lost Power

I had read some of the negative views before we visited, but having used Meliá hotels in the past I was unconcerned. However, this property and its staff really stood up to be counted the day the whole Iberian Peninsula lost power. Firstly, the staff. I will set aside those at the reception who were grumpy when we arrived and also when power was restored next day. They - and I mean all of them - did not provide the welcoming face I would expect from Melis. However, all of the rest, especially in the bar and restaurant were exceptional. Despite undoubted concerns for how their own families would be coping, they worked tirelessly and professionally. As a guide to the general feeling, one young waitress serving the tables outside who told me she thought the country was at war. That is the level of concern that prevailed, but she still kept working and smiling despite her anxiety. I didn’t get their names, but the barman was also a star. Huge pressure, but he worked non-stop. Then, next morning at breakfast, the young girl who assisted in serving provided a smile that set everyone at ease. All of that aside and the back up generator that kept us as an island amidst turmoil, I thought the hotel was excellent with comfortable rooms and facilities. We will go back to Granada and the Melia - it deserves our support.

The day the power went out in Spain and Portugal!

We arrived minutes after the huge power outage that impacted ALL of Spain and Portugal in May 2025. The staff at the hotel handled the situation beautifully. The hotel had a generator, and while our room did not have lights (but it got dark at 9pm) we had access to the lounge which had lights, ability to charge our phones and also had beverages and snacks. We had a junior suite - which had a separate living room area - separate bedroom and nice bathroom. The room was clean and we had a view of the Alhambra! The staff at the property were excellent - especially with the trying conditions of the power outage. Many could not get home and I'm sure were worried and had to make sure their own families were okay. We were not negatively impacted one bit. They even arranged to offer dinner to hotel guests. I'd like to recognize Noni. I never saw such a hard working and pleasant person in all my life. She was fabulous and deserves great recognition. They all worked HARD under trying circumstances yet she stood out to me - along with a gal in the lounge but I didn't get her name. I will make a point of going back to Granada as we were only there for 1 night. The city is beautiful and there is alot more to see I'm sure. Thank you to the staff of the Melia for making our stay during the power outage so nice. You never would have known there was an outage unless you went out on the street at night - that was eerie - see pics!

One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in

Trouble started when we arrived we thought we had a room booked on the level turns out no availability. Our room had hardly any natural light it was dark most of time looking out on pipes in an atrium. Breakfast was dreadful cold and unappealing. I found the staff quite rude and unhelpful. On day three we negotiated access to the level what a disappointment. Views great from the terrace food and drink options rubbish and the whole area stank of sewers. I would not recommend this hotel in Granada there are many better ones. Lunch and dinner menus appalling overall no idea of service and hospitality. Btw this level nonsense is a rip off having met many guests on this luxury floor all were disappointed. I want to mention the GM Laura I. Particular who accused me of being stupid and a liar. I think not. Recommendation AVOID

Location, clean, lovely breakfast. Helpful staff.

Great location just off the main shopping strip. Lots of restaurants around. Lovely breakfast. Spacious room 424. Helpful staff especially the English lady who helped us out with info about the ATM. Appreciated your advice which was spot on. Not far from getting the bus up to the Alhambra and the old town where the best views are.

    Granada Centro

Recently refurbished hotel in the center of Granada. Rooms and facilities are fine. One thing to know, however, is that if you have not paid for one of the larger, more luxurious rooms you will not have access to the terrace and the facilities on the 6th. floor that grant you view of the Alhambra. That came as a surprise to me, as view of the terrace is what appears on the front webpage about Melia Granada as well as in the gallery for the hotel. It may appear in a footnote somewhere that you do not have access, but similar to renting a car, you do not read all the footnotes, but trust what you see. First, I was told that I could find access to a terrace on a hotel nearby (ironic..). In the end we found a solution, even though I think it is false marketing, not stating this clearly (either by making a big disclaimer across the terrace pictures or alternatively not showing the pictures at all). This terrace was the reason why I booked the hotel in the first place. Lastly, I enjoyed the half board option while staying there. Although dinner was fine, the four options remained the same throughout the stay.
