A lot of street noise, tight rooms.
We stayed here over New Year's into the first week of '26. The hotel is in a great location, easy to access the beachfront and super walkable to everything on the main areas of Waikiki. Like every hotel in Waikiki, they charge a ridiculously high resort fee, and it doesn't really include anything. It's the one thing I wish they could get rid of at these already overpriced hotels. Beach chairs are $25/pp per day, (unless you are bonvoy elite) so we purchased them locally and just left them behind. The pool is very small for the 700+ rooms at this hotel, and they allow guests to leave towels for up to an hour to hold them, so it is nearly impossible to sit poolside if you want a day here over the beach. They do have a small poolside grill for drinks and bites that is convenient, and the beachside restaurant can be delivered to the pool area. We had some pretty good salads one day when we didn't feel like venturing outside the hotel. Housekeeping was really good. I will say that we booked the lowest category room through my Marriott travel agent site and it was more like a cruise ship cabin. We aren't in the room much, but it was extremely tight with three weeks of luggage. Street noise here was an issue being right along the main street and the street performers play the same show over and over and over again. We stay up on the later side, and use sound apps, but it was still annoying. I really wouldn't stay in this hotel again, unless I know it would be beachside. They did a large NYE party, but it was priced really high, so we did something outside the hotel. The hotel was accommodating in moving us from the original Queen bedroom to a King when we asked. They also offer 4 bottles of water daily included in the resort fees, and there is a small Kerig machine in the room. Overall, it was fine for what we paid, but I was here on a discounted rate. I don't think it's really worth the normal cost with the loud street noise and extremely small rooms, cruise ship size bathrooms. We have some other favorites in the area that are in quieter areas and include chairs that are higher on the list.

Fire safety???
We have had several bad experiences on our stay. Here is a summary: 1. The fire alarm went off at 3am ( thanks a lot), so we all went to the closest fire exit and walked down 8 floors. There was no exit there, so everybody walked back up several floors, and then walked to the other side of the hotel to try to find an exit. Good thing it was a false alarm. In a real fire we might have all died. 2. This is the second straight time we were given a room that was different from what we actually reserved and paid for. They blame “renovations” for this. Be careful. You may not get what you pay for. 3. We had a long stay, so we needed to use the hotel’s guest laundry. Two of the three washing machines were out of order. I have to conclude that this hotel is poorly managed, to the extent that even the guests’ safety is in doubt.

Worst
I attended New Year’s Eve pearl and Diamonds party, paid $740.00 for 2 persons but stayed for less than hour food was horrible taste , hot dishes were cold , horrible customer service . My husband got mad at me because I choose this place . My New Year’s party was spoiled. I called Moana and they say they will call me back and they never did . I don’t think is fair when I work really hard as nurse Tech in a hospital .

The views and staff are amazing!
This was our second trip to Oahu and our first stay at the Moana Surfrider—and it will not be our last! Yes, the renovated rooms in the Tower Wing are fantastic (if you can, get a Diamond Head Ocean view one -- A++ views), and the afternoon tea at the Veranda was the best we’ve ever had, but more importantly, from the moment we checked in through check-out, we were treated with incredible warmth and kindness. I can’t stress enough how wonderful the staff is, with a special shout-out to Vanya and Lucy at the front desk, and the amazing Alissa at the Veranda for truly making us feel like family. Can’t recommend it enough and cannot wait to return!

You haven't lived until you try the Vichy Massage
This spa has excellent views and is very spacious. It offers two different saunas — one dry and one wet — and the jacuzzi is the highlight, overlooking beautiful views with open side windows and chairs for relaxing. Everything was clean and well stocked, with complimentary nuts, teas, and fruit available. The Vichy massage was on another level — truly unforgettable. You haven’t lived until you try this! I will definitely be back.
