    Great service

Husband and I just returned from six nights at Nizuc. We originally booked at another resort (all inclusive) but once we arrived, we quickly realized they had some service and maintenance issues that were red flags. So we checked out Friday and moved to Nizuc after reading online reviews. To be clear we don't usually go to Cancun but wanted a quick getaway from Chicago. I don't love the weather there, and I don't love that Cancun is inaccessible except by car (please have bikes available since there is a bike path part of the way?). When we arrived, the service was what impressed us. The front desk team was great. Adi asked if we wanted to upgrade from a junior suite to a penthouse or another suite since those were available. We went to look and decided the penthouse in building 9 was lovely, so we were in suite 951. Pros Service, service, service. From beginning to end, the courtesy and attention were appreciated. We had a butler and I have to give a huge shout-out to Christopher. I had bought a swimsuit coverup on the way to Cancun and the zipper broke the first time I wore the pants. He helped us coordinate with the laundry team and they replaced the zipper quickly - even had a white one - to save the day. He also helped me glue my flip flops that had a mishap. He was kind, his english was perfect, and he was extremely friendly, above and beyond his job title. It was a small thing that left us feeling very cared for. The food was very good. They had very fresh seafood and the ceviche was good. We enjoyed the fried plantains that came with the ceviche. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet with a wide range of eggs, toast, meats, cheeses, fruit, pastries, juices and desserts. There was also a bloody bar and mimosas every day. We loved the restaurant La Punta where the servers were super friendly. My husband loved the grilled, crispy bread they served with the guacamole. This was our favorite for the laid-back experience and friendly service. I had the huge prawns (grilled) and they're so big all you need is one as a meal. The lobster bisque was also exceptional, more like mexican tortilla soup and not too heavy. The pools are clean and well serviced. There weren't a lot of bugs. AT the beach there was a shack with kayaks, paddleboards and snorkel gear. This is all free to use. The guy was very friendly and we used equipment twice. It was a fun way to explore the reef. The room was quiet. Bed and pillows were comfortable. The towels were nice. Room service was quick and courteous. We didn't eat in our room but ordered breakfast a few times. The fruit plate was delicious and beautiful and the pastries were super good. Try the chocolate "bread". Really nice gym and spa. I did a workout one day at the end of the afternoon and it was clean, with towels and water. We used the spa twice and services were good. I particularly liked my deep tissue massage with Paola who did some stretching on me as well as body work. There are golf carts with drivers constantly ready to whisk you wherever you want to go. Elevator in our building was fast and clean. There was a building attendant if we needed anything. Reservations (highly recommended/required for dinner) weren't hard to make and it wasn't too difficult to get the times we wanted. Cons We made a number of reservations for the tennis courts, dinners and the spa - and it would have helped a lot to get an email, text or printed confirmation for them so we could easily remember times and be assured we were booked. Anything would help. It was nerve-wracking when we left to go to the airport that the staff told us they arranged transportation but when we got to the meeting point, the taxi didn't show. Nobody knew anything about a taxi for us despite us confirming at the front desk? We would have ordered Uber had we known. We were assured twice that this transport was ordered but it wasn't. A simple text confirmation would have put our minds at ease that these things were taken care of. Luckily we had allowed ample time to get to the airport but being delayed 45 minutes made me nervous. I wasn't a fan of them spraying for mosquitos so close to us. We were out walking to the main building when a golf cart drove by and was fumigating the pathway the whole way. Naturally this chemical was drifting in the air all around us. I understand there are mosquitos but didn't enjoy inhaling whatever they were spraying. Had they told us "we spray at 7 each night" or something then we could have just avoided being out when they did! Not a big deal and perhaps unique to me - Room service coffee was meh. I should have ordered espresso or a latte which they had at the breakfast restaurant. Beach chairs are unpadded but the pool ones have cushions. My husband commented on the discomfort. And...people do that thing where they put their sunglasses on a chair and then are gone all day. So rise early and stake a chair you want. The beach ends at the next resort down from ours (Club Med) so we sadly weren't able to beach walk each morning, which we love to do. One day we did try, at the advice of the concierge, to walk on the sidewalk to the Westin and then access the beach there but none of the hotels would let us pass through their properties to get to the beach. Walking into town wasn't fun, and felt scary with buses and cars flying by at a dangerously close distance to the walkway. Don't recommend. The buildings are all named and all identical with very little signage. So every single time we left, we had to count buildings and often approached the wrong one. I understand "high design" but a little more signage would be SO helpful. A number on the outside of the building, not just one small sign with the name, would help us not feel silly. The pathways were very dark in the evenings. We liked to walk back from the main resort after dinner and often almost got hit by golf carts. We've been at resorts where they gave us flashlights to borrow? We took to using both our cell phone flashlights to light the way and prevent surprising golf cart drivers. This isn't the fault of the resort but there were a few guests who were inconsiderate - perhaps they are accustomed to being the most important people in the room. From talking on speakerphone at the pool to Facetiming at the restaurants, we were mildly annoyed by others not using headphones as a courtesy to the rest of us. (In our family we call this the Whole Foods behavior) Spa is shockingly expensive although service is good. For us two to have a 90 minute massage and use of the facilities was over $1000. I get massages regularly at home and I'm used to $200 for a 90, but this was extreme. I also found it unfortunate that while we had access to the plunge pool, sauna and steam room, those aren't shared men/women areas (each gender has its own) and there was an annoying attendant who did little but try to tell me what to do next. I appreciated her getting me started but I wanted to be left in peace to relax without her shepherding me or telling me to do the sauna. Our last night we had dinner at the Indochine restaurant and it was our least favorite due to the very average service. The hostess was short with us when I asked if we might sit outside, even though we had a reservation. Sushi there was good but we felt ignored mostly by the staff. This wouldn't have been bad except all the other places had exceptionally warm and attentive service. Neither pro nor con Apparently this resort is very popular with the observant jewish community as one of the restaurants is kosher. We don't get to see too many Jewish families where we live and it was kind of cool. If you keep kosher, you might like this place! Overall we felt the resort was nice, although expensive, and service was outstanding.

    Service needs improvement

The Good: Gorgeous architecture with stone, wood, and water elements Beautiful setting by a private beach with the calm and warm Caribbean Spacious room with high ceilings Generous half bottle of mezcal as welcome amenity for Chase Edit Friendly service from the golf cart drivers Sparkling wine at breakfast buffet Areas for improvement: No contact from concierge prior to arrival Took a few tries over email to make a reservation at onsite restaurant Check-in and out is done standing at the counter with long lines forming Keycards did not work, instead of bringing new ones, made us go back to reception Forgot to take my credit card for incidentals at check-in resulting in inability to room charge. Bartender ran after me for payment. No apology from reception. Rag left behind in room by housekeeping. Was promptly removed. Closet door in bathroom would hit poorly placed ottoman Sliding door to bathroom was stuck and did not close properly Pool, though lovely, was too warm Did not offer service at pool. I made my own lounge chair. No one came by with menu Average food No one solicited feedback, not even an emailed survey after our stay In summary, gorgeous property but service needs serious improvement for a place that charges over $1000 a night.

Great service, great food, beautiful resort.

My wife and I stayed 7 days this past week. The room was huge and we had our own plunge pool (which they can turn up to be hot if you ask). The staff is very attentive, friendly, and kind. Service is over the top and truly makes the experience worth the expense. Hector was our waiter for breakfast everyday and he remembered our first and last names each day, always smiling, and you could see the pride he takes in his work. Rodrigo the concierge was always ensuring we had our reservations set. The pool and beach staff were always there to get you a drink, food, or to move the umbrella to keep us in the shade. The food is amazing, a gourmet meal at Ramona, the wood fired pizza at Terra Nostra was delicious and the Asian food at Indochin was outrageously good. Definitely a relaxed chill vibe and will come back.
