***Important Information for our guests***
The Dominican Republic imposes various restrictions each year for Easter.  The restrictions usually begin the Thursday prior to Good Friday, and run a few days past Easter Sunday.  The following regulations may be enforced:
*Motorized watersports may be banned
*Non-motorized water sports may be limited, or banned
*Alcohol consumption may be restricted  (most resorts obtain a special permit which enables them to serve alcohol to nonnative persons during the ban)
*Music may be limited or silenced

These guidelines are currently vague because actual enforcement by the local government does vary greatly from one year to the next.  Each year the actual policies are not published by the local authorities until just prior to Easter.  These rules are designed for the safety of everyone, as beaches get extremely busy during this period.

The outside is gorgeous. The room, service, and food are severely lacking!

The outside pools, grounds, and beach of this resort are all gorgeous: clean, well-kept, spacious, and comfortable! Our family thoroughly enjoyed this part of our stay. We enjoyed the unlimited drinks at the bars. Many beach/pool towels were stained, not very pleasant appearance! The buffet food was terrible: cheap and bland! The restaurants were booked full, so we never had the opportunity to try them. The room desperately needs maintenance: black mold & mildew in bathroom, rusty, no bathroom ventilation, poor a/c function, broken lamp and poor lighting overall, tvs don’t work, door jams broken and not secure. We had no towels in our room for showering for the first 30+ hours of our stay. I made multiple requests for service and was promised but never received. I had to go searching myself for the towels. Give yourself plenty of time for checkout! Few employees = long wait time in a hot lobby!

    Book it! It is beautiful!

We are here right now. Almost canceled due to negative reviews. So glad we didn’t! This resort is awesome! The staff are so nice and friendly! The food is great! The resort grounds are beautifully kept! The beach is amazing! One of the best here for sure! And our room is fantastic! We have a room in block 7, 2nd floor and it is right in the beach! You can hear the waves crashing all the time and the view of the beach is just incredible! We have a corner Premium Suite so the room has a sitting room with a full bath, closet, fridge and ocean front balcony. The separate bedroom also has a full bath, fridge and 2 balconies. One facing the ocean and one facing the big pool and ocean! Definitely was worth the upgrade to Premium! We will definitely be back to this resort!

Probably wouldn't return, but still had a good time.

We booked this resort with another couple back in may and had been extremely excited for this trip, the airport & transfer were pretty much seamless, but the problems started almost immediately upon arriving. -massive line checking in to hotel and 1 person attending to the check in desk. (There we're supposed to be 2, but the other person was being dragged in 100 different directions with guests having issues) -Our friends were brought to their room first, which was not cleaned from previous guests, which lead us back down to the front desk. -at least an hour and a half after arriving, we finally got to our room which of course had no towels and a pretty gross bathroom with a broken shower. -oh yeah, and the Wi-Fi didn't work in our room whatsoever. (I'm an Electrician in Canada and discovered the ethernet cable hanging from the ceiling to be the most likely reason..) I promise this review gets better. As the 4 of us ate the late night snack bar food on a dark patio, I think we were all thinking the same thing "wtf did we get ourselves into?" However, waking up the next morning we were relieved. The grounds were absolutely beautiful & very well kept. The Coffee in the lobby was great and the Buffet had a lot of tasty options (even for a somewhat picky eater like myself) -My friend and I used the gym after breakfast and actually got a decent workout in -The pool is huge and has a lot of chairs all around it. ( we never had to go crazy to find seating, always a bunch available) -The beach is incredible, and again its usually pretty easy to find loungers. -The daytime snack bar / lunch buffet was delicious ("ham and cheese burritos" were delicious) -The pizza place upstairs is really tasty, but can get busy and leave you waiting a while - The vendors on the beach are friendly, but can be a little pushy. once they get pushy they just become kind of annoying. -Dinner buffet was pretty good, a little bit of different variety every night. We definitely never went hungry. The pasta station is crazy busy and the staff working it is definitely not in a rush, no matter how long the line. -We only tried one of the a la cartes, which was the Japanese/ Hibachi restaurant. The food was really good, the chef was very funny and interactive, and we had a really good time. I wish I could end the review here, but unfortunately there was a bit to complain about. We knew that this resort was on the cheaper side, so our expectations were relatively low, however certain things still seemed to disappoint. -As mentioned before the room was quite a let down. The ceiling in the bathroom started leaking randomly, the wifi was non existent, the shower was half broken, the toilet worked whenever it felt like it, the hairdryer didn't work whatsoever, one night we had no running water at all ( the entire resort was down) and overall the room never once really felt clean. -The maid was really nice and we know she was doing her absolute best, but the service was just too inconsistent. some days we had towels, some days we didn't. You would think that if there were no towels to give, they'd at least leave our old ones so we could reuse them, but this wasn't the case. - The front desk staff are simply too overwhelmed with request from guests. when its your turn to need something, its extremely unlikely that you'll be helped with anything more than a temporary fix. - I will highlight that all the front desk staff I encountered spoke really good English and did the best they could under the circumstances that I don't think are their fault. -Some of the other staff could be a bit rude, and sometimes the complete opposite. -I found the bartenders to be extremely inconsistent with their service at times, and unfortunately witnessed on multiple occasions playing favorites with the locals and pretty much anyone who speaks Spanish. I stood at the front of a bar line for almost 5 minutes while locals just walked up beside me and had their order taken before mine. eventually I just had to give up because they refused to acknowledge me standing there despite me trying to order every time they looked at me. I think this place really is what you make of it. If you dwell on the negatives you will ruin your trip. I found that once i left the room for the day and hit the beach with my friends, nothing could kill my mood while i was there. The drinks are great, the food is decent and Punta Cana is a beautiful place to visit. I don't think we would return to this hotel unless some serious renovations were done and maybe double the staff they currently have. We decided to make the most of it, so we left thankful for the opportunity to visit and thankful for the wonderful memories we made here at the Occidental Caribe!

    Great experience but won’t return

The bathroom ceiling had water dripping from it. There’s was men sock underneath our bedsheets that’s was supposed to be cleaned by room service… Saw 2 small cockroaches in the bathroom our skin is itching so we don’t know if we have bedbugs! Food was great the pool too much music.
