Budget Experience
Resort was okay for what you pay. Very small resort, food and drinks were just okay. The staff was great though. Emmanual at the Mexican restaurant and Vanilly at the buffet were some of the best staff members on the property. Not much to do at the resort but the guy at the tour desk was very helpful if you want to go off the property. Housekeeping was not great, reused towels and bedding, was not very clean. I would not stay here again but would maybe try out a different one of their resorts.

Poor hotel, no more than 3*
We were very disappointed by this hotel. First of all the hotel is so small on our day two we already got boarded. Few issues we run into, pool is freezing, food is bad has no varieties at all, restaurants aren't better except Mexican one. Almost no entertainment program like in many other resorts and furthermore bar closes at 11pm. The beach was also disappointing, very small, noisy, and smells gasoline from ships and ferries that parks next to the resort. But the worst part was my son and I got food poisoning from the buffet. Based on our experience we will not recommend it!!!

The services are not good enough
The resort looks pretty but the services are mixing good and bad. Some workers are good such as Armando Vazquez, Vamlly Cabrera(Buffet) and Luis Nunez. but Anahi N. is not behavior as professional receptionist at all. The room service didn't replace new towels someday. Also be very careful about their timing sharing sales stuff. they tried to push you very hard for buying it and the benefit to listen to their presentation is also a bad experience. they gave you 4 benefits after presentation. 1.International Jewelry center---Never go there as it's a another trap to ask you buying things which you don't feel comfortable to buy. it's not open to the public. 2. Mixology & Tequila Tasting---Similar to item 1, The things offered in the store are several times more expensive comparing with anywhere outside of this private store. People follows you every steps during your shopping time. Awful experience!!! 3. El Mirador---This is the one which it may interested to you as it's a Cancun character sign in a public beach. They said that they will drop you there to take a picture but the small shuttle bus didn't do their job professionally. they were using this shuttle to take some extra people and do the deliver work to make extra money. so it took a lot of time before we can go there. It got dark so we are lost the interests to take a picture anyway 4. Mexico Magico---same reason as item 3, the tour guide/bus driver are too busy to make extra money for themself, the museum will be close at 5:00pm. so we can't make it. this is a really a scam for getting the benefits from the presentation. it cheats the resort's customer and no one take a fault about it!!!!

Occidental Costa Cancun December Trip
Overall, our stay was amazing. Friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, large variety of options for breakfast lunch and dinner. Evening entertainment was always enjoyable.

Worst vacation ever. Do not go to this "resort".
This was the worst vacation I have ever been on. The food was marginal at best at the single buffet available, with the sit down restaurants only slightly better. 4 of us got sick from the food/water and we heard of numerous other guests who were sick as well. The drinks were terrible with a very limited bar menu. When we arrived we tried to make reservations at the better restaurants but were told they were all booked for the next 2 days and we could only get reservations for 4 (we had 5 in our group) for the other days. They did squeeze us in one night. But every night as we walked to the buffet for dinner, the specialty restaurants were for some reason half empty. I think they just told people reservations were full to avoid providing the better food/service. The beach was tiny and the water dirty and full of seaweed. It was right next to a harbor so there were ships passing in and out constantly. There were essentially no beach activities. You could get a kayak for free, but a jetski cost $60 for $30 minutes. There were no beach activities and almost no room for us to play the spikeball game we brought with us. All you could do was lay on lounges, which filled up early and were in the shade most of the day. Same issue at the single pool - limited activities and lounges filled up early. The entertainment was weak. It was presented in basically a conference room where you would expect to have a business meeting with some chairs lined up. Lasted about an hour each night, but was only marginally entertaining for about 15 minutes and then was just more of the same over and over again. When we arrived we were immediately accosted with a sales pitch asking us to go to breakfast at a sister resort to see its amenities. Were told we would leave at 10 and be back by 11:30. I knew it was likely a sales pitch but figured we needed breakfast anyway and could see another hotel. Taxi took us there and we were then told that just the sales pitch would take "at least" 90 minutes and we would not be back until at least 12:30, taking up over half of our day. We declined, so they refused us breakfast and sent up back to the Occidental.
