Not your normal Barcelo
Staff was 50/50 on politeness and efficiency. Room not ready upon check in time. No set schedule for room cleaning/had to call for room to be cleaned or for towels to be replaced. When certain folks were asked to do their job, they were snobby and down right rude. If you asked for something, it was like you were asking them to pull their own teeth. You cannot order a drink at one bar, then order the same drink at another, bartenders are very inconsistent. The landscaping and beach are awesome!!

Nice mid level resort
Lovely location, beautiful view of the ocean, lovely beach. Food was average, if anything needs to be improved it is the quality of the food. I was personally disappointed because I had emailed the resort prior to my partner, and I arrival, letting them know that my partner and I were taking this trip while she was still able to travel because she had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. I let them know that we have been wanting to come to Costa Rica for a very long time, and friends made it possible for us to come. I asked them to provide us special treatment and make this stay as wonderful as possible. The hotel gave us a better room so we had a better view, but not much else. On two days, we had a free snack left in our room, and on several days the housekeeper left us lovely towel, designs on our bed. That was it. We were told they arranged a special dinner for us, but when we asked about it, the reservation people didn’t know what we were talking about. I was really disappointed, I thought that the hotel might upgrade Us to premium service, which we wouldn’t necessarily have used because we don’t really know what it Is at this resort - At the very least, it would’ve allowed us to access room service, which would’ve been really great on those evenings when my partner was really too tired to go to the buffet. They might’ve thought about offering us a free service at their wellness center, perhaps a massage or mud bath or whatever, or even made sure that we had snacks in our room every day. I’m sure there was more they could’ve done for us. In the end the view was lovely, and so was the beach, And the sun was warm and bright, and that’s what we came for, so we were happy with that.

Great if your a mountain goat!
The grounds are very hilly and the resort lay out was not very well thought out, nothing is really centralized or convenient. Expect a lot of walking as the shuttles are not reliable especially when you are leaving. Make sure to plan ahead, we ordered a shuttle and it was full even though we told the front desk we had luggage as we were checking out. they don't prioritize guests who are checking out and have a bus waiting to take people to the airport over people who are booking tours because they are mismanaged and understaffed. The staff don't really speak English well but Carlos at the front desk was helpful and courteous. If you need help changing rooms due to your walkability speak with Sergio and if he wont change your room speak with Raul Medrano. I would recommend massages throuh Glady's on the beach she was the best. $40 US for 1hour. Adios Amigos!

A Beautiful Resort in an Excellent Setting
The resort was very nice, the setting was beautiful, the food was good, staff were friendly, rooms were nice and were clean, our patio was beautifully set in the gardens and we loved the slightly hilly terrain and the onsite animals, including a small troupe of howler monkeys. The snorkeling off the beach was good.

Occidental papagayo
Carlos and Enrique from food service were amazing at making the experience exceptional for my wife with food allergies. Lots of up and down walking and stairs but a shuttle is available from 6 am until late. If you have an early flight, the shuttle is not available to help with getting luggage to the front desk. Beautiful property overall and wonderful service.
