Love Tamarindo
Our stay at Occidental Tamarindo was wonderful. The location is beautiful, surrounded by lush vegetation, and it’s very convenient to walk between the different facilities. Our room was clean, comfortable, and the bed was perfect after a day of exploring Tamarindo. The staff was always friendly, smiling, and happy to help. We also booked our airport-to-hotel transfer with Nomad Tours Costa Rica, and everything was very easy. Communicating with Gabriel through WhatsApp was super convenient, and he was very flexible with our schedule and any changes we needed to make. We also booked a catamaran tour through Gabriel, and it was absolutely fantastic! The prices were also very reasonable, and the service was excellent. We highly recommend Occidental Tamarindo if you want to stay somewhere with easy access to everything Tamarindo has to offer.

Great resort!
The resort is beautiful! The rooms are clean, the whole property is really nice, quiet, and the staff is generally very friendly. Just keep in mind: slow down, because no one is in a hurry here! 😄 Juliet did a wonderful job cleaning our room day after day. And if you have the chance to meet Carlos Granados at the restaurant, take it! This guy added so much positivity to our trip day after day! What a genuinely nice person (from your new Canadian friends! Haha!) The only thing that brought our rating down a little was the food. We found it somewhat disappointing for a hotel of this category. The beach is beautiful, with huge waves when you catch low tide and walk a little farther down the beach from the hotel. Overall, we had a really nice stay and would definitely recommend the resort!

Stay #5
This particular stay was enjoyed by my wife, me, and our daughter, son-in-law, 3 grandchildren, son, and daughter-in-law. Once again, Occidental Tamarindo did not disappoint. Special thanks to Argerie for arranging adjoining rooms for our family and the welcoming flower and towel decorations! Thank you Argerie and Ethilma for the special ala carte restaurant arrangements and special attention that was given during our stay!! The entire 10 days were especially memorable for all. Pool, beach, buffet, snack bar, entertainment, and entire staff was outstanding. We are already planning our return. Thank you all!!!

Definately not a 5 star resort.
This resort needs a lot of improvement to call themselves 5 star. Room cleaning is sketchy, most times a ball of hair (that was not ours) floated around our room for day, so no sweeping. We were give 1 towel for 2 of us, and most days went without a hand towel. Don't even expect a washcloth, they were nowhere to be found. Hot water was only available 2 of the 7 days we stayed. No drink service at the pool or beach. Snack bar food is left in bins to absorb the moisture in the air, so expect limp and soggy french fries and more. Specialty dining was the best food available, but they limit your trips to these restaurants. Paying for the premium package was questionable, as we were denied top shelf alcohol, even with the premium package. So not sure what the additional charge was for. Entertainment is lacking, no organized activities at the pool and nightly shows could be improved. The beach is rocky and unswimmable. Overall you get what you pay for - Next time I will go back to the RIU, they have better service, activities and food. Beach is

Disappointing stay because of service and staff
Disliked · Upon arrival, our room was comfortable, but I noticed a wad of hair in the shower on the wall. Room service was very spotty, often not restocking things like towels, coffee, or toilet paper. I am not a picky or high-maintenance person but this was just annoying, not anything major. Mid trip I got food poisoning from the hibachi restaurant, undercooked pork and for a person I was traveling with, undercooked chicken. Some of the staff was super rude. Our last night in the restaurant (that was open until 10pm every night for guests), starting taking food away, putting it back in the kitchen at 9:15pm. When we attempted to get more food (it's buffet) at this time, we got nasty stares from staff and they were obviously talking badly about us. Upon checkout, it cost me $105 because I misplaced the towel cards ($35 each if you do this) and then the wrist band they give you, they told me it was broken so I had to pay another $35, but I believe as she cutting the band off the key tag, she accidentally cut it and blamed it on us. There's no way if it was broken it would have stayed on my son's wrist, it wasn't possible. Lastly, if you want a decent drink, you have to pay more for better quality, so it's not 100% inclusive in reality. The drinks are most definitely watered down. OH one more thing - fire alarm went off at 5am one morning and we all went to lobby to figure out if it was real, the staff said they didn't know...no one came to tell us what was happening, and their response was, it's probably safe to go back to your room (separate buildings) and just gave a terrible attitude about it.
