Wonderful vacation !
We stayed at the Occidental Tamarindo from November 30 to December 7. It is a resort with beautiful flora where it is pleasant to stroll. We had the opportunity to observe raccoons, large lizards, coatis, and monkeys nearby. There are music bands almost every day, entertainment by the pool, and evening shows. I would like to emphasize the exceptional work and high level of customer service provided by all the team members, especially Michelle, who ensured all our needs were met and exceeded our expectations regarding the reservation of our room with a view of the sea and flora, as well as restaurant bookings. Similarly, I thank Jucy for organizing our excursions. We loved our catamaran adventure as well as our ATV tour, during which we were able to observe monkeys in their natural habitat. The beach located on the right side of the hotel is paradisiacal, although it is necessary to cross the river to access it. On the left side, some areas are suitable for swimming, including one spot in particular that I called our "spa"! It's a wonderful adventure to walk along the long beaches, feet in the ocean, with beautiful waves bringing foam, just like in a spa. The downtown area of Tamarindo is a 30-minute walk, but I recommend taking a taxi, which costs $8 US. The downtown area is enchanting and exotic; we visited four times, including two occasions when we spent the entire day on Tamarindo Beach, which we loved. In summary, I highly recommend this hotel where the vegetation is stunningly beautiful, and you will receive exceptional customer service. The team members are friendly and are committed to satisfying their guests.

Stay
Close to tamarindo, but far enough to get away from the party scene. Great resort with lots of well kept grounds. Staff friendly. Howler monkeys were fun to watch. The only bad thing was the nighttime entertainment was way too loud some nights. We were in building 4, and it was so loud. Could have been turned down a notch

Nice stay.
All was great except for the beach. If you plan to swim in the ocean, do not choose that resort. The currents are very strong, and the waves very high. Otherwise the beach is nice and there are volcanic rocks on which you can walk and take interesting pictures. The sunsets are amazing. The resorts is close to the town of Tamarindo with lots of stores, bars, restaurants and it is safe.

Beautiful, but room for improvement... a 3 star food & drink experience.
This was our 3rd stay at the Occidental Tamarindo, and we will likely try it one last time in the future. It could be a gold mine with a little polishing. Food & Beverage Management needs to up their game to make this a 4 star resort. PROS: Beautiful, well-maintained grounds Check-in process was quick and our room was ready 2 room duplex suite was spacious with GREAT housekeeping & minibar service AC worked well and beds were comfy WIFI worked well throughout the resort Unique beach area with decent shade, volcanic rock, & estuary Plenty of loungers by pool and on beach House band by the pool and in the lobby bar was a bonus! Entertainment staff was energetic and put on an amazing show! Only a 20" walk to Tamarindo where there is so much to do & see is an added bonus! COULD BE BETTER: Only 1 bar (with 1 bartender) open throughout the day (pool bar during the day, lobby bar at night) all week long Limited mixers for drinks, especially at the pool bar Buffet food was mediocre & repetitive No wait service at the buffet, we ate most meals throughout the week with no one stopping by our table to offer a glass of water, provide missing napkins, etc. The theater bar didn't open until the show started, closed before the performance was over, and only offered cola as a mixer SHOUT-OUTS to Athena who took care of us at the buffet on Friday before we left and Alexander at the lobby bar who went out of his way to make me a Mudslide cocktail when I provided my own Bailey's! RECOMMENDATION: If you get bored with the limited drink options and so-so food, we highly recommend the 1 block walk to the Surf Club. We enjoyed drinks, delicious food, & the atmosphere there!

Good with some issues.
Arriving I requested my room with Canal view, as was marked on my reservation to find out there is no canal. I had a nice room looking out at some trees, but no water. I asked for an upgrade for which I was willing to pay but they had nothing. Room service was good, food was good but not a lot of variety. Pool was great, beach is not very nice and with all the rain we had the estuary would dump a lot of sand in the ocean, so the water was brown. The beach in Tamarindo village is super nice though. After a heavy rain I realized that water was dripping in my closet, and a bunch of clothes were wet. I reported it to reception but nothing was done to rectify this while we were there. I ended up squeezing my clothes to either sides of the closet to let the water drip in the empty center
