Poor service and food
Ocean Alfaro Adults only resort: The staff is very unfriendly and doesn’t speak English. As a solo traveler, I felt invisible and ignored multiple times. The treatment is noticeably different if you’re with a group of friends or a couple. The food quality is not that great, either uncooked sea food or dry meat, the portions are small, especially at the à la carte restaurant, which you must book before 8:30 a.m.; otherwise, it’s fully booked. The beach area is windy and high waves, so you can’t enjoy it. Overall, it was a terrible experience.

An absolutely amazing 14 night holiday
I'm not overly keen to leave reviews but after seeing some of the bad reviews on this place I had to share what a wonderful holiday we had. 14 Nights 13th - 27th January. Couple in their 30's Firstly the complex is huge, beautiful and above all else very clean. Before travelling we did read the reviews and we were very worried but honestly it's just confirmed that the only people that leave bad reviews are the ones looking for issues. We stayed in the El Beso side in block 12 with a pool view, we didn't struggle at any point in our 14 days to get beds wherever we wanted any any pool anyone saying they did struggle are simply either lying or going down at an unreasonable time. We were at the pools for 8am every day and didn't have a single issue. Our room was cleaned daily and our mini bar was restocked both the cleaners and Pedro who filled the mini bar couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. We didn't struggle at any point to get a drink at a swim up bar or around the pool, they will literally fill any size bottle you wish with whatever you want. Service can be relaxed but definitely not slow also if you're on holiday why do you care for time? Sit back and relax (maybe even order two drinks and solve your own "issues") . The app is very easy to use and booking any of the three a la carte that require bookings was very easy. If you want the steak house I would advise being online at 8am and you won't have an issue. Both buffet restaurants were easy to get seated at for any meal and they had a good selection of food and a variety of choices we didn't struggle once for something to eat, my partner is a very fussy eater and even she had absolutely no problem at all. Dany in the main restaurant is a great guy and will look after you. All the a la carte restaurants were great in truth we weren't that keen on Route 66 but that wasn't a fault of the restaurant. The mexican was amazing. Ocean burger bar is a snack bar open in the day and the burgers were fantastic. In general near can be a little bit on the pink side but like any normal person would do just ask them to cook it a bit longer for you and it isn't a problem at all. Mikes coffee shop was a real highlight and the staff there were also great. They will make your choice of drink to your choosing. They will toast beagles and if they are running low they restock all cakes regularly. The entertainment team were fantastic as were the workers in the sports bar who once again couldn't do enough for you and would put any sports game on at request including UK football. It can be a bit busy. After the main entertainment end but on the whole it's very relaxed. The clientele at the hotel were also great we met many great and friendly people. As I have mentioned the resort is very big so make use of the "train" (golf cart) to get around they will drop you anywhere you want to go. All in all, we had the most amazing holiday at this resort and as mentioned before I really struggle to see where people were finding such huge faults we had no problems with our belongings, our safe or anything. Everyone of course is entitled to their opinion but they are also accountable for themselves and their own personal expectations.

Avoid!!!
I would never go back to this hotel even if it was the last place on earth! When we first arrived you are blown away by the aesthetics of the hotel. Especially if you arrive at night and everything is lit up. But I can tell you that’s as far as it goes. To start no welcome drinks, check in took forever. Then we had to pretty much guess where our room was and took us 15 minutes to walk to it. There was buggy’s but you only seemed to see them when you eventually arrived to where you wanted to go. No explanation when you checked in of things going on in the hotel, how to use or find the website that gave you information on the hotel or to order room service, log into WiFi etc. Basically got chucked in at the deep end and had to figure it out ourselves. The rooms are nice but the bathrooms are abit dated. Not clean at all. On the first night there I think I cleaned the floor with my feet they were that black 😂 the cleaner basically only made the bed and mopped once on our last day there. Also we would hang our towels up so they wouldn’t take them but they did anyway and didn’t replace them or the bath mat after using it the first night. Drinks do get replenished every day but you only get one bottle of each when you have 2 of you staying in a room. Service overall is shocking. Waitress around the pool barely came over you might as well go to the bar yourself. One day she only came over once and at the time it wasn't busy. All staff in restaurants look miserable and clearly hate their job. Takes them ages to come over to even pour you a glass of water and when they do they get it everywhere. Always interrupt you and just walk away in the middle of you talking. Food was cold everywhere you went. I expect it in the buffet as food can be left out for a while but when you go to the different restaurants it should be freshly cooked and hot. You can tell they batch cook everything as it was always cold. Even in the steak house the steak was borderline warm. We asked for fresh chips as they were cold and we got service with attitude for them to come back and slam the plate of chips back down and they weren’t even fresh they had just shoved the same ones back in a fryer. I have never been pestered so much on holiday as I did here. People walking around trying to sell you things every day when you just want to relax. Entertainment crew coming round asking for feedback on their service when you have never even spoken to them before. Everyone practically begged for reviews as their review score was so bad even the tui woman. So I wouldn’t trust half of the good reviews on here as some people wouldn’t have felt comfortable giving a poor review with them sat there waiting and then reading it after. Maybe do a better job and it wouldn’t be so bad. Also if you get approached by concierge (wearing white shirts) try to avoid them. They want to sell you a travel club and if you say no they keep going on at you. One came up to me multiple times and on the last day I just walked away as he wasn’t taking no for an answer. Very pushy. No night life here. Not even a main outside bar where everyone can mingle and enjoy their evening. Only events for kids in the evening. Multiple things weren’t open either. Casino never opened and sports bar isn’t open in the day which is a bit strange. I could go on but I would be here all day. Just avoid and spend your hard earned money else where.

Christmas Vacation Dec 22-29
This was our 4th Christmas at this beautiful resort. Love going at Christmas, not busy until after the 26th, good weather and the staff is exceptional. Jose our butler was amazing, he was personable, efficient and always a friendly smile. Marckendy does alittle of everything but he’s main goal is serving the privileged ( so worth it) making people happy and to make sure you have an amazing vacation he is at your service. He has made our last two vacation truly special. My husband loved that he never had an empty drink ( lol ) and became good buddies. The piano bar is a must on your list. Carlos in piano bar / lobby bar makes the best Margaritas and chocolate martinis. Always has a smile. Privilege lounge for breakfast was mostly our morning routine. The whole staff is so friendly and welcoming, Francis has been there for a few years and always is smiling and keeps your mimosa filled 🥰. The grounds are well kept .The beach is big yes rocky, but the lagoon is amazing. You just may see the wild horses and sea turtles. The selection on restaurants is amazing, I enjoyed the food tremendously. My husband is very picky so he not so much but didn’t starve ( he is picky at home so it didn’t bother me lol). I highly recommend this resort from my experience and we are booking again for next Christmas.

A really Great Vacation
Upon arrival to the resort we were met buy very friendly staff. We received a cold cloth to cool ourselves off and received a welcome drink. Check in at the Privilege check in was smooth and easy. The staff there were very friendly and welcoming. Our butler Luis Rafael was absolutely fantastic. He took care of all our dinner reservations and sent us the Ocean Post with the daily activities every day. If we needed anything he got it for us. His service was spectacular. It was also nice to see Luisander as well. The privilege lounge dinner staff also gave us great service from the first day. Our Room was on the El Beso (adults only) side and was in Building 12 on the third floor. There was a welcome gift, being a bottle of sparkling wine and a note from the manager welcoming us to the resort. The room was very nice and clean and the maid Erika was always friendly and kind. She kept our room very clean. She even warned us one day as we were returning to our room, that the floor might still be wet as she has just washed it and did not want us to slip and fall. Pedro always made sure our mini bar was refilled and we had plenty of bottled water. It was a very short walk to the Privilege Lounge where we had breakfast every day. It was great to see Franklin, Francis and Marisol again. The food and service were excellent. The beach is really nice and lots of chairs. The privilege area by the pool is nice as well. Great service at the El Beso Pool. Jonathon was really great there. The Lagoon area on the beach is the best place to swim in the ocean as the waves are not as big. The grounds keepers always keep the property well groomed and clean. The Lazy River is a lot of fun and even the Life Guard can get in on the fun by spraying you as you pass by him. The Ocean Burger snack bar by the pool was really great. The food was really good and the service was great also. We had a great time and great food at the Sakura restaurant with a great and funny chef. The Italian restaurant was also very good. Again we received excellent service. Katherine our server was very nice and kind to us. The tomato soup and lasagna were fantastic. It was the same for the Mexican, Steakhouse and Blue Moon restaurants The Main buffet in the plaza had a nice selection and the Hot Pasta station was really good. Service for drinks was also good. The Pez Dama El Beso buffet has less choices but food there was good. It was nice to see Osiris Cid again as well. We also spent some time at the sports bar with great service. The only bad thing is the music in the Sports bar needs to change. To hear the same 3 or 4 songs over and over gets really tiring. Overall we had a very enjoyable time and would return to El Faro again.
