Jan 15, 2026Black mold in vents and extra fees
The ventilation/air ducts in the first and second rooms we were put in were full of black mold. We could smell it as we stepped out of the elevator on the 16th floor. Once in our room, I started to have a difficult time breathing and started to look around. The air vent had mold coming out around the vent on the wall. Upon further inspection with my phone light, the entire duct inside the vent was black with mold. The vent was blasting air into the room almost constantly and we were stuck in the small space breathing the toxic smell. There was also mold in the bathroom around the shower. I asked for a new room and the staff was very helpful, but the second room on the 16th floor had the same issue. They found a room on the 17th floor that didn't have visible mold in the vent, however the smell was only slightly better and the bathroom smelled heavily. Other issues: -Having to pay an extra amenity fee for things like "complimentary" wifi, the pool (which we never used), "free" local calls, and unrequested bottles of water is ridiculous. -Large gaps under the hallway door that made the stay loud and not feel private. -The carpets looked like they had not been properly vacuumed in awhile. A broken piece of crayon and little bits of trash that littered the hallway to our room and remained unchanged for the duration of our stay were evidence to the lack of care. Not only will I never recommend the Waikiki Malia hotel to friends and family, I will be leaving reviews with photos of the mold elsewhere and contacting DCCA and the Hawaiian Inspection Group to make them aware of the unhealthy environment at the hotel. The only good thing about the hotel and our stay was the friendly staff who did their best to try and fix a problem that they had no control over.

We visited as part of a time share presentation deal and so knew we were not staying high-end. Helpful and accommodating staff, miniature pool and hottub but great value.

Would come again
The room was very well spaced, very clean, and our view was amazing! Staff was incredibly kind and helpful as well. Even though we stayed during New Years the place was fairly quiet and it was perfectly located near shops, restaurants, and it was a nice walk to the beach.

Relaxing Stay
The staff was wonderful! Our room was nice, and the pillows were soft. I loved the metal water bottles with the fill up station down stairs! I was able to keep myself hydrated the whole trip without wasting a bunch of plastic ones. The location of this hotel is great because it is in the center of everything. Great value for your money. Everything was so clean and had an esthetic atmosphere. We had a great time! Mahalo!

Nice and Affordable Resort in Maui
Great location. Rooms were very nice and very family friendly. Kitchen had rice cooker and other amenities including dishwasher liquids etc. I would highly recommend this resort for family and friends to stay closer!!!
