We loved La Perla!
We loved this property and will definitely go back. It’s very pretty, clean and generally well maintained. The food is very good although we wish they had non pork breakfast meat options rice and beans and other authentic, local Mexican food. The taco place was also very pork heavy so we didn’t eat there. The housekeeping staff does an incredible job. Our room was spotless every day. Most of all, the staff is incredible and made our experience. Deysi at the snack area at check in who helped us get tea every night, Santiago, Victor and Nicole at Cielo. Karla. Nelvia and Blanca at the buffet who made our breakfasts and other visits to the buffet so pleasant. Erick, Fernando, Alfredo and Maria who treated us so well at the Reserve pool.

Not bad but probably won't go back
Beautiful location with a lot of promise and promises. Because our butler never got in contact with us we were unable to make dinner reservations. By the time she did it was too late we only ended up eating at 1 restaurant in the hotel and while the restaurant want busy the kitchen was, and service took 1.5 hours. The taco cart and burger cart were the best warm food we had. If you are single and going with family strongly recommend just staying in thier room. If they do family concierge and you don't...you will not be able to eat breakfast, swim, or drink with them without paying extra (usd750) for the week. If you need anything ask bell boys and a good taxi guy, general reception was pretty useless. Beautiful location and hotel but for what you pay we won't be back. More places to explore.

Dirty and disappointing resort
We are a young couple with two young kids. I have been to Cuba 10 times, DR and Mexico several times. Ranging from 3 to 5 stars. I rarely feel ripped off or misled, but I do feel that somehow I was misled with this resort. We came here with low to medium expectations given that it’s considered “luxury”(hah) To say we were extremely disappointed would be an understatement. The hotel cuts corners in so many ways. Absolutely do not expect anything above and beyond here. The biggest issues/cons: 1. Housekeeping. I have had better housekeeping at 3 stars in Cuba. And this is not something I think I’ve ever complained about. I’m convinced all the maids do is make the bed. The bed doesn’t have a fitted sheet, so you end up on the bare mattress which is pretty gross (the mattress is incredibly lumpy might I add) and the duvet doesn’t have a cover… just a top sheet. How do you not have proper bed sheets or duvet covers!?! I don’t get it. Lastly, Every day the floor is dirty and definitely don’t expect towel decorations or any special touches here. 2. The entire hotel is showing its age and is incredibly dirty, like everywhere. The pools are dirty, the tiles are dirty, the seat cushions in the main areas all look like they’ve been soiled and left. There’s been poop in the pool multiple times this week. We’ve used two beach beds and both had dirt and blood stains on them. No one is cleaning these, I assure you. It would take minimal effort to wipe them down every few days. But, nope. Nothing is updated here and it seems like melia is trying as hard as they can to avoid renovating, which it desperately needs. I believe this resort may have been very nice 10+ years ago, not anymore. 3. It feels like something is missing at this resort and it’s honestly pretty boring for adults and kids. There isn’t a main bar that has seating for people to gather around, there isn’t a main hangout or snack bar after the sun goes down. It just feels odd and like people don’t know where to go or what to do after dinner? Other resorts I’ve been to have a kids park, giant chess games, mini arcade etc. there is nothing here. Aside from swimming in the pool, nothing. Oh wait, there are 2 dirty hammocks to swing on. 4. Beach. Absolutely disgusting. The ocean is filled with sargassum (not the resorts fault, I know this). My issue is the sand being filled with litter and cigarette butts, and the resort piling the sargassum into a 15 foot pile making the beach wreak of rotten eggs. The beach is also shared with locals, many of which get drunk and hangout at the cenote and can be sketchy. Paradisus left a lot to be desired. I came with an open mind and just happy to be leaving cold weather behind, but I am actually looking forward to going home. 5. Incredibly busy resort, at least in March. We have gotten up at 5 am every day to secure a chair. If you’re not up before 6, have fun sitting on the ground. This alone has put a huge damper on our vacation. No one should have to stress about chairs and wake up at 5 am. They are either overbooking or not providing enough chairs for the amount of guests. Some positives : - kids club is good - mini waterpark was fun - food is decent - ice cream shop and cafe are great I would never come back, and I can’t believe I was made to believe this is a luxury family resort. I am usually good at picking places and I feel disappointed in myself for not knowing these things beforehand.

We love it here!
Eddy and Jesus at the South Bar are absolutely amazing! We saw them every day and loved them. They made our experience fantastic and we can't wait to visit them again soon! They made our honeymoon one to remember! Couldn't recommend them more!

Amazing kids club for our toddler!
The kids club here was so wonderful our nearly four year old daughter would hurry to eat so she could go back. Every time she went she would come back with amazing crafts. We are already trying to figure out how to immortalize them. I felt really comfortable leaving her there with the wonderful caretakers- Yessenia, Lety, Yadira, and Carlota. They clearly love hanging out with kids. That alone is reason enough for my husband and I to book again next year. Every day we had time to spend with each other without worrying our kid felt lonely. The hotel is gorgeous and the drinks are not watered down. The food was also rather fantastic. Zero complaints. Again though… well come back for the kids club.
