    Best Family Vacation!

    We just returned from a wonderful stay at the Paradisus Playa del Carmen. The resort itself is gorgeous and provided a much needed reprieve from the grey, Canadian winter. We opted for an upgrade to a Nikte suite with the family concierge and we were not disappointed! Nestor was our personal concierge for the week. He took care of everything from booking our restaurants, to letting us know about the extensive activities the hotel had to offer for adults and kids of all age groups. We signed our son up for at least 4 arts and craft classes and got to keep the creations. In addition, Nestor left surprises in our room every day for our son, which he loved. Huge thanks to Nestor for his friendly demeanour throughout our week and for making our trip so memorable.

    Great experience

    We had a great experience ar Paradisus Playa del Carmen. The room was comfortable, the beach was nice and the pool for kids was good. The tacos restaurant could be better, the japanese was great. I would like to mention some of the workers that made our stay special: Alfonso Guarde at Celsius, Nimfa at the coffee shop, Roberto from animation, Augustino at Bana Family. In general the resort is great. Please add umbrelas at the main family pool.

    Eduardo Gamboa our concierge was fantastic and professional. He help us with arrangements of our dinners and also with our departure back to the airport. He made our family feel comfortable and welcomed, we're glad he was our concierge. Thank you for your hard work.

    Nature friendly luxury experience in a beautifully designed hotel

    It has been my first experience here and I was very happy with my experience — it exceeded my expectations! Love that the beach area preserved much of mangroves. Love that you can find a spot on the beach in the shade of native plants. Cabanas are integrated tastefully and delicately into the landscape. You can feel super intimate and engrossed in nature. It is the opposite from feeling a sardine in the row of beach chairs . I also adore the design inside the resort - many original, non trivial choices. Stuff is super friendly and accommodating without being intrusive. Alberto was very willing to give me an individual salsa lesson and then shared some helpful tips about nightclubs in Playa del Carmen. Absolutely gorgeous beach- long , sandy, Cristal clear water

    Could be five star if only . . . . . .

    Paradisus Playa del Carmen is a beautiful resort with many strong elements. It could easily be a five star one with some simple innovations and improvements. As it is now it is excellent in a couple of areas, very good in many and average or below in several. For clarity we had a Nikte Suite with Garden View so my comments are based on that experience. First and foremost I have to highlight the staff. Our concierge Adrian Bosquez is far and away the best we have ever had at any resort and we have stayed at many luxury resorts. He was attentive, patient, tried to resolve the few issues we had and worked tirelessly to keep us happy. He is just a genuinely nice person who represents Paradisus in the best manner possible. A big thank you to him. The staff overall at the resort were kind, friendly and efficient. In particular both Julio and Edourdo, waiters at the beach, and Eddy and Jazil at Sal's restaurant stood out for going beyond the norm in our expectations and collectively made our stay more memorable. Servers at the pool and the bartenders were also a delight, always there with a smile and ready to help. The room was exceptional. Very large and well designed with a nice balcony and view of the resort. There was also a lot of storage space in drawers and cupboards. Something unique that we have never had before and loved was the room key as part of a small bracelet. No more worrying about where the room key was. The ocean was beautiful on most days and the beach is very nice with clean smooth sand that our grandson of three really enjoyed. The Nikte family pool was warm and clean and the aqua park and pirate ship were enjoyed by all. Many comments have mentioned the presence of coatis, local wildlife that live in the mangrove near the beach and scrounge for food. Yes, they will visit your bags when not attended but they really were not a problem for us. They do not approach people unless someone ill advisedly tries to feed them. There are also turtles and fish in pools throughout the resort that are fun to watch, especially for children. Finally on the positive side is the attention to the children with the entertainment. The animators were there in the evening dancing with the children and bringing many smiles to their faces. They also entertain during the day in different areas. These are the many reasons we had a very nice vacation. And now to recommend to management how to make the leap to five stars and eliminate the few flaws. High on the negatives would be restauarant reservations. It was almost impossible to get what we wanted when we wanted at the a la carte restaurants and ended up by default going to the nightly buffet more often than we wanted. It is only through the patience and persistence of our concierge Adrian that we got what we did. We have stayed at resorts that had both no reservation requirements and those with and never have we experienced anything remotely like what we had here. Frankly not acceptable. Rooms were perfectly cleaned ever day but we were supposed to have a nightly turn down. Out of seven nights we had a turn down twice. Since we were out of our rooms from at least six to ten each evening it cannot be a time issue. In fairness we did not complain and just accepted it for what it was. Mini bar is average. Most luxury resorts at a higher room level offer liquor in addition to beer as part of the mini bar. Paradisus does not. We know there are many bars throughout the resort but sometimes it is nice to just be able to go to the mini bar for a quick one. The website advertises a private section of the beach for Nikte guests. This is not the case and it is an important issue for us because we do not like to have to go down to the beach or pool and reserve chairs at 6:30 in the morning but that is what is needed here. Again most luxury resorts with private section have a beach and pool concierge that takes care of these things. In seven days we saw our beach concierge once and that was to tell us not to raise the umbrella because it was windy. The beach furniture is not comfortable and in need of refurbishing. Instead of permanent fixed palapas there are umbrellas that are not close together and cannot be opened when windy resulting in being in full sun for much of the day as there is no other shade. This is unpleasant and dangerous. Lastly, and I know this is a Melia policy not Paradisus but we resent it, there is this membership called Circle which provides additional benefits to Circle Club members. As a result Bali beds at the pool and beach sit unused in case any Circle members show up. Also items on menus reserved for Circle or pay more. This diminishes the value of selecting Nikte.
