    One of the worse RIU I have ever been too. Front desk is horrible from the start. No server walking around to offer drinks on Saturday or worried about guests playing volleyball to bring them a glass of water while participating in hotel activities. Was told there was a shuttle to the airport and never arrived. Once again I had to go to the front desk and was looked upon like it was my problem and nothing they can do. I have gone to RIU Playacar and RIU Palace in playa de Carmen and would suggest if you’re considering RIU visit those and not RIU Cancún. Food is horrible. Service Horrible Front desk employees terrible with no customer service experience

    Probably our worst holiday ever. We were recommended this hotel for our honeymoon from TUI for some bizarre reason despite wanted to stay at other hotels. We don’t mind a party atmosphere to a certain extent, we were woken up pretty much every night at 4/5am by other guests. Our room was disgusting, the curtains covered in blood and cockroaches in the room. Food is vile, it made me unwell and my partner had food poisoning. Bar and restaurant staff are mostly nice. We put a request in for a nice room as it’s our honeymoon. I appreciate it’s a request and not promised but we must have got the worst room out the whole hotel. We complained about noise and infestation at reception and this wasn’t taken seriously. Hotel is seriously dated and would be a 2* hotel if placed in Europe, no idea how it has a 5* plastered on the front. 100% avoid and pay extra for elsewhere. We spent a fortune eating out as food was so bad and made us sick.

    Don’t Go!!!!!!

    I have traveled extensively in the past and I have never posted a review. Unfortunately my stay here was the worst I have ever experienced and I need others to be aware before traveling to this location . Let’s start with the positive 1. The staff was amazing. The receptionist, wait staff and housekeepers were pleasant and really tried to meet our needs 2. The outside of the resort, lobby and pool area were clean and well maintained. Now the not so good 1. The room was a disappointment. My college dorm room was in better condition. The room was nice in the 1990s but not so much now. The sheets had blood on them and required changing. The pillows were thin not comfortable. The television was a little larger than my IPAD. 2. The alcohol was below bottom shelf. I am sure it was watered down. Most guests had the same complaints. 3. Restaurants. The worse of the worse. The food was absolutely abysmal. No taste at ALL. The menu never changed for lunch and dinner the entire time we were there. The only alcoholic beverage served in the restaurant was beer and wine. You were required to go to a bar to get a drink to take to dinner. Never heard of such a thing. Don’t waste your time at the steak house. The cut is fat, chewy and tasteless. The Italian restaurant was a little better but still left a lot to be desired. We didn’t try the Japanese restaurant because we heard the same complaints from other guests. Only one choice of restaurants for breakfast (buffet). The sports bar was 24 hours. Eat at your own risk. I wish there was a way to receive a refund. I can’t believe I wasted my one summer vacation time and money at this place. My advice. Don’t spoil your vacation. Find another location!!!!!!

    Never AGAIN!

    I decided to stay at RIU Cancún because the cost was budget friendly. The hotel is on the outside looks nice and the lobby was really clean and nicely decorated and then I get checked in and from there I was completely turned off. The room I was given smelled like mold and the sheets and blood stains. I immediately went back down to front desk and complained and ask for another room. The second room I was assigned also smelled like mold and the mini fridge was dirty. At this point I didn’t asked to be switched because I had no plans on drinking anything in that fridge. The rooms at RIU are dated and in need of an upgrade. The hotel staff in the restaurants and pool area is really what makes up for the dirty and dated rooms. They wait on you hand and foot and they all were very pleasant. Our waiter Mark and Phelix who helped with booking excursions were so kind. The restaurants were clean all of them and the food wasn’t bad. It’s your typical food that you would get at any all inclusive so no complaints. I did have a issue with the transfer service going back to hotel 2 of us out of 8 was assigned to another transfer service then driver was rude and made a comment that we don’t tip which I wasn’t sure why he made that comment considering we never seen this man before and my entire party was tipping the entire trip. He was speaking Spanish and must of assumed that non of us spoke Spanish so we understood everything he was saying which was jaw dropping. This is my second time staying at a RIU property and I am not at all impressed and will never return. RIU you need to remodel and improve on the cleaning of the rooms. My last night there I had a water leaking from the ceiling and had to put towels down to catch the water.

    Rui cancun don't bother!

    Dont waste your money. I will never return to this hotel, it is certainly not a 5 star more like a 3 star. The rooms are not cleaned properly had used towels refolded on shelf in bathroom, beds are made but not washed even after asking a few times so made to sleep in filth. Entertqinment was abysmal. Staff are rude, most restaurant staff are incompatant and not capable of doing a simple job. Had red wine spilt on a white expensive shirt nothing done or offered to rectify just shrugged of by staff. Had a seconed course brought over while people on the table were still eating a previous course. Waiter also shoved his hand across my wifes face to collect another persons plate whilst she is mid way through putting her food to her mouth. Let a few things slide to begin with as to not ruin everyones holiday but it got progressively worse. Tour operators are useless so many problems with excursions and all you can get from them is a lame sorry certainly will never return not impressed in the slightest. The only good experience I had from the hotel was the romantic meal on the beach I organised for my wife's birthday but obviously even that I payed an extra 200 odd pounds. Don't get me wrong there were some lovely aspects of the holiday just a shame the bad parts put a dampener on it
