Great Family Resort
This property does the BIG things very well - facilities maintenance, well kept beaches & pools, good food, great trained staff, clean & comfortable rooms, great bars & plenty of them, and solid entertainment. Greatness comes from focus on the LITTLE things - coffee carafes & wine on the tables, no reservations to dine, no waits for seating & no upselling wine. They make it better by removing the potential pinch points. Very difficult for such a large resort but well done. Two things to improve 1) Gym not large enough or to standards, & 2) Full size beds should be American Queen standard. Otherwise, we'll be back. Not often said after a decade of Cancun travel!

RIU Dunamar Exceeded Expectations!
Mexico – RIU Dunamar Review Check-In: Check-in was fantastic — friendly, fast, and we even received a complimentary room upgrade to a partial sea view. The lobby was spotless and every staff member we met was welcoming. Room (2048): Our room was exceptionally clean and a great size. The minibar and optics were well stocked, and we had a coffee machine with filter coffee, creamer and sugar. The room also included a fridge, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, plus toiletries (hand soap, shampoo and body wash). We ordered extra pillows through the app and they arrived quickly. The bathroom had a large walk-in shower that was absolutely spotless. Lobby Bar: Monse was incredible — genuinely the best server we had. She always made us feel welcome and never let our glasses sit empty. The bar itself was very clean with a relaxed atmosphere, and the nightly entertainment here was a lovely touch. Sports Bar: This became my morning go-to for a latte and a cheeky pastry. The bar was always spotless and fully stocked with snacks, burgers, hotdogs, nachos, sandwiches, fruit, cakes and pastries. Shop: Clean, well stocked with souvenirs, but prices were definitely on the higher side (cigarettes were $17 per pack or 2 for $30). Swimming Pools: There are two swim-up bar pools — always busy, and the water was a bit cloudy (no one ever got out, so not shocking). The smaller pool was the quiet pool and had disabled access via a ramp. The splash park and kids’ pool sit between Dunamar and Palace. The entertainment pool was my favourite — big, lively, and the entertainment team were brilliant. Huge shoutout to Christian, the absolute diva who kept everyone laughing and made the team shine. Restaurants: Buffet Restaurant: We had a great experience here for breakfast, lunch and dinner thanks to the amazing service from Eva, Marta and Ady. They always seated us with a smile and made our visits special. The food was good, though it could get busy and items went fast. • Breakfast: 07:00–11:00 • Lunch: 12:30–15:30 • Dinner: 18:00–22:30 Pompeya (Italian): Buffet starters, served mains. We tried the beef, lasagna and chicken — all came out hot and well presented. Worth a visit. • Lunch: 12:00–16:00 • Dinner: 17:00–21:30 Bamboo (Asian): My favourite restaurant of the trip. Buffet style and every dish was outstanding. I went twice. Highly recommend the beef teppanyaki, pad thai, and sweet & sour pork. • Dinner: 18:00–21:30 Las Brasas (Steakhouse): Enjoyable but needs improvement. My medium-rare steak arrived well-done and tough. No buffet here — everything is served. Least favourite restaurant overall. • Dinner: 18:00–21:30 Kulinarium (Gourmet): Did not visit. • Dinner: 18:00–21:30 RIU Entertainment – Main Stage: White Night and Neon Night on Wednesdays were brilliant — something for everyone. The entertainment team works incredibly hard. My favourite show was the Michael Jackson tribute — absolutely worth a watch. Beach: WOW — stunning! No seaweed, turquoise water, and service was unreal. You barely sit down before a cocktail appears. Huge thanks to the beach waiters — they graft! Mosquitos: ARGH! These little monsters were vicious at night. Bring sprays and wipes. I did see gardeners smoking out the bushes a few times, but it didn’t seem to make much difference. Drinks: Bar staff were excellent and could make anything you asked for. Iced coffee on the rocks became a favourite (not a fan of blended), and the Peach Martini/Blanca Martini was a top pick from the menu. --- Overall: RIU Dunamar was excellent, and I would absolutely return. A massive shoutout to Monse, Ady, Eva, Marta and Christian — RIU should be proud to have such fantastic employees.

November in Mexico
Very nice and clean property. The pool and beach areas were very good and there were lots of chairs and shade areas which was a pleasant surprise from other hotels we have experienced. The buffet was decent but got a little repetitive after a few days. The beds were on the hard side which some may appreciate but we found them uncomfortable and affected out sleep quality. Overall we were impressed with the quality of the property and would recommend.

Stay at Riu Dunamar
Overall, this resort wasn’t bad. They keep the entire property very clean—the grounds, the pools, and especially the beach area, which was one of the cleanest I’ve seen. The service was also good, and the staff were friendly and willing to help whenever we needed something. That said, the quality of the rooms wasn’t quite what I expected. On our first night, they placed us in rooms directly above the club, and the music was extremely loud, making it almost impossible to sleep. Once we talked to the front desk, they were very helpful and quickly moved us to quieter rooms, so I appreciate their responsiveness. If you’re traveling with family, I would recommend booking a family room rather than a standard room. The regular rooms come with twin-size beds and a pull-out couch, which can be uncomfortable if you’re traveling with older kids or teens. Food-wise, the overall food quality wasn’t as good as other resorts we’ve stayed at. Not terrible—just not impressive. Something else to consider is the location. If you plan on leaving the resort often, you’re pretty far from the central tourist areas, so Ubers and taxis can get expensive. If your plan is to stay on-site, relax, and enjoy the beach, this place is a good fit. If you want to explore Cancun more, you might want to consider a resort in a more central area.
