Nice
Everything was very clean and all the buffet food was excellent. I think that the dedicated special restaurants weren't really all that interesting. Having to wait on lines for a long time instead of being able to make a reservation makes it inconvenient to attend those. The food at the buffet is pretty good and I don't really feel like you need to go to the specialized restaurants to get better quality. My only real complaints are that the pillows were too small and the main road leading to the resort is extremely rough and conducive to damaging the suspension in a normal vehicle. I assume that the road belongs to the resort since it's named "Ruta RIU Guanacaste."

Very Good Resort - Highly Recommend
Good clean rooms. Staff were excellent. We only did the buffets because the a la cartes had a big wait. This could be improved. Travel to and from the resort is long and slow. but once you re there, you re all set. Staff responded to all requests in a friendly manner. OVerall, this is our second Rui stay. We very muc enjoy Rui resorts (we have stayed at MANY different resorts companies and locations)

Good value for the price
nice resort. 2 main buildings 1 is across the service road which is newer but further away from the main pools, beach, and dining rooms, the older building is adequate but is dated, The staff at most bars is awesome. food at the main restaurants was slightly above average with a nice variety. would go back again.

Riu Costa Rica
In general the resort was ok. One thing didn’t work for us was the inability to make dinner reservations at the restaurants. We have to eat dinner early in order to get a table. Not much fun. The best part I have to say was the pool area and service was great. Rooms were dated and bathroom was really dated, I hope new renovations brings room to a standard design.

Not Bad, Not Great
Perhaps the timing of our visit led to a less-than-stellar experience. There was construction going on that started around 7 am, so each morning the "wake up" call was the sound of hammering/drilling. The buffet was okay, nothing on it caused any upset stomach and each meal you could find at least 3-4 items that tasted pretty good. I wouldn't recommend wasting any time waiting in the 45 minute line for dinner reservations - both restaurants we tried weren't very good and we ended up wishing we went to the buffet. The staff were nice, and the rooms were relatively clean - they were just in need of serious updating...cracked porcelain, chipping paint, etc. The beach was beautiful and the water was clean - one of the highlights of the property was walking about 15 minutes down the shoreline to the Monkey Bar and seeing the Capuchin monkeys playing in the trees (out in the wild). The activities throughout the day were fun for the family (volleyball, darts, aerobics). The nightly entertainment was impressive - very talented dancers. The only watchout is that for two of the nights, Broadway and the Latin Show, the women dancers were wearing not much - thong bottoms and bikini-like tops...with lots of dance moves that gave the audience lots of...interesting views - depending on your parenting style, many might consider the shows not family friendly. We had our young teens with us and even though we aren't prudish...some of the moves in the thongs made me re-think if I should have let them watch it. Overall, it was an okay stay - once the construction and updating is done, it probably will be a very pretty property!
