    A nice short trip

Overall we had a good trip to the Riu Latino. Wasn't one of the best resorts that we've stayed at but seemed great for our daughter's first trip to an all-inclusive. I’ll break our trip down into a few areas so we can rank them out differently: Resort 4/5 - Lobby, restaurants and bars were well maintained and very clean! - Multiple pools all looked kept up and clean. - Lobby Bar, Sports bar and event space bar were the options. Understaffed at times and drink options seemed fine. It was nice to have a coffee option at all the stations also. - Beach was taken care of and plenty of options for chairs or hammocks available daily. Food 3/5 - Buffet was one of the better ones we've encountered. - Italian - So-so. Everything was self-serve except the entree dish. Three different meals ordered here, and they all felt like they were a reheated dish. - Asian - sushi available as well as some Asian dishes. All self-serve from a buffet line. - Mediterranean - OK. I'm not a fan of that type of food but the wife and daughter both felt it was middle of the road. - Sports Bar - Hot dogs, premade sandwiches and chips/cheese. Microwave on hand to heat them up. _ Pepe's (Lunch only) - burgers, dogs, chicken, fries. Nice options for lunch. - Room service - Nonexistent. I feel like this takes them down a notch. Room 3/5 - Nice layout but nothing special - One lightweight blanket provided so watch what you set your temp to - Must put the door tag out if you want towels or mini bar refilled - Big bathroom with walk in shower and 2 sinks Staff 4.5/5 - Check in crew were all pleasant and helpful - All service staff at the restaurants were great - Jehu, Mike and Bryan around the pool bar and drink carts were great throughout the stay - Luz, Fabi and Melba were great at the spa - Activity team was great. Always trying to make sure your involved and having fun without pressuring you too much. Middle of the road for us but they definitely have some great staff members working there!

Excellent Resort just north of Cancun

Excellent experience here during my 6-night stay at Hotel Riu Latino. The food was excellent the service was top-notch and the hotel stay overall was great. There is a general buffet and four themed restaurants which I visited all except for the Indian themed one. The Italian restaurant was OK, the Asian themed restaurant was a little better and the steak restaurant was decent. I had the ribeye there but it was a little tough and a welcome change from the buffet. I really enjoyed the buffet as there is a large variety of food selections for all three meals (breakfast, lunch or dinner). Keep in mind none of the restaurants take reservations and it's first come first served- especially with the steak restaurant as there is a line of folks waiting for dinner when it opens at 6pm locally. If you want to wait remotely, the maître-d will give you a buzzer that vibrates when your table is ready. I had a noisy neighbor one early morning at 3AM which persisted for over 15 minutes. I then reported this with a brief call to the front desk and this was resolved within 10 minutes. Rooms were very clean and the weather was great- mid seventies fahrenheit with that excellent Caribbean breeze constantly flowing. There were white clouds in the distance on the excellent private beach which I visited daily which then turned gray with light rain on a couple days but I did not mind. The evening entertainment was average to sub-par but I really didn't come to the resort for that. But it was enjoyable watching the guests engage in karaoke one evening. Lastly, use your judgement when requesting taxi services as they will gouge you if you let them in the event you want to venture outside the resort. The shady bellboy directed me to $90.00 taxi service (round trip) to Mercado 28 near downtown Cancun about 20 minutes away but I knew that was a raw deal. Later on I verified that I could use my Uber app and pay a reasonable rate for a third of that! And then later, it was nice that the concierge near the front desk confirmed that there were less expensive choices for excursions/tax's elsewhere in Cancun. Use your own discretion but if money is no object, no worries and have fun!

    We will be back!

I will be back. This Adults-Only resort delivered such a memorable vacation for our group. Location - 45 minutes from the airport, only advice is budget some extra time getting back to the airport, Cancun seems to not have the infrastructure in place to support an easy return back to the airport when you're coming from the North. Atmosphere - During the day there is a pool that will fit the vibe you're looking for. Whether it's relaxation, meeting people or drinking like there's no tomorrow there is a pool for that. In the evening the entertainment team always had a good show and if you're not ready for bed the disco on the resort was the perfect side to keep the good times going into the early morning. Beaches - Very impressed. Plenty of loungers, beach was swept everyday to remove the washed up seaweed and the sand and blue water is exactly what you want it to be when booking a trip to the Caribbean. Waterslides - SO MUCH FUN. Rooms - they're brand new and beautiful. Room was spacious and comfortable. Only thing here was the shower didn't have the pressure I like but was perfect for my wife. Cleanliness - As a whole this resort was the best i've ever seen. Spotless, top to bottom. Public area washrooms are cleaned every 30 minutes 24hrs a day. Very impressed with the cleanliness of the resort. Noise Level - I read reviews of rooms above the disco being quite loud. Just ask to not be there if you think that will bother you. They have plenty of options and the front desk is very accommodating. Food - Buffet - Morning Buffet has literally everything. Lunch and Dinner Buffets changed slightly day to day but regardless of the day everything was fresh and very good. A la cartes - Steakhouse 7/10 Steak was good, avoid the ribs! Asian 7/10 impressed with the food safety here. Seeing cooks check the temperatures of the sushi made me confident it was safe to eat. Italian 8.5/10 go hungry as the portions and salad bar have so many options you can fill up fast! Fusion 7.5/10 Lobster Rice was very good, the rest just wasnt for me. Positives - no reservation required, show up early and if you don't get your name on the list. Negatives - the house wine is far from quality. You can pay for better wine but it's really not that good. Also those restaurants are all very warm inside. Found ourselves leaving before dessert cause we were just too hot. Final thought - 5 star buildings and cleaning staff. 4 star service and restaurants. Where they can improve - Poolside Service, + The sports bar smells musty, tough to stay in there for extended periods of time. Thought it was a one off but it's like that everyday. What stands out - Resort is beautiful, Buffet is the best i've seen and better than the A La Cartes. Lobby Bar before dinner was a highlight everyday for us. Evening entertainment. Entertainment team as a whole. Very funny and engaging group.

    A wonderful 13 days

Just returned last night 1/21/26. We are 3 active couples in our 60's & 70's. Yes, some in our group went down the waterslide. Personally my husband and I have traveled to a variety of locations, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe - River Cruise and many Caribbean Islands and Mexico. We stayed at the Riu Tropical Palace in Jamaica last year and suggested to our friends to go to Riu Latino for our 9th annual Friends Vacay. We do not drink so if you are looking for info on the alcohol - won't find it here. Transportation - USA Transfers - have used them repeatedly - so easy, great communication. Took about 45 minutes to get from the airport, minutes going back to the airport. The resort overall is a small resort and everything is easy to get to and find. It's not super tropical in appearance - building is boxy, pools are all square or rectangle shaped. They were continually planting new plants so the vegetation - palm trees, flowers are young but everything is kept up so it looks nice. Food - I believe from going to MANY All-Inclusives that the Riu Brand has figured out how to do a buffet. Each station has a cook, so you are getting freshly cooked food. They have an outstanding variety and we were there 13 days and I think for the first time no one said they were "over the buffet". And there is a dinner buffet that we like for an option that many resorts are doing away with. We love having that option. The Asian Restaurant is actually a buffet too and everyone like that. The Steakhouse was good the Gourmet was ok - different and the Italian was very good, probably our fav after the Asian. None of us are "foodies" so if you are you might desire more. Peppes the grill by the beach had Great grilled chicken and that was our "go-to" when we didn't want to eat at the buffet. But what made the Buffet the best was our waitress Nelli - she actually made our vacation. When we arrived we went to the buffet and were greeted with the biggest smile and it never went away. As the week went on I specifically watched her and she was constantly finding ways to make the guest experience the best. So thoughtful and by the second or third visit whe knew what we wanted to drink, I like limes in my water there was always a plate, extra napkins and that smile!!! I watched here work with other employees and everyone seemed happy working with her. She definitely should hold a higher position because she is an asset to the dining experienc. I typically don't go to a resort twice but because of Nellie I would go back to this one. I miss her already. Beach - the first day there was some sargassum in the water but after that didn't see any. A huge tractor is out there in the morning taking care of any on the beach. We were initially concerned about the number of umbrellas and lounge chairs (because of the pic on the website) but there were plenty and help is out there to find one for you. Also they have beach games going on throughout the day. Walking to the beach is a bit of a workout and we had one person with mobility issues but he was able to walk down a couple of times, but the sand is beautiful but very thick and deep which makes the walk a workout. Pools/Waterslide - As you are facing the beach the Pool on the right by the waterslide is the quietest. And lots of people used the waterslide - note it is closed on Mondays. We went over to the left where the bigger pool was and where the activities (pool exercises and fun games). It's louder there with music. Cleanliness - Oh my goodness, I read repeatedly about the cleanliness but thought - "Ok Really? so many people commented on it". But wow - there are people constantly cleaning every floor, the pool decks, the bathrooms, the hallways, the foyer floors, and so now I know why so many people commented. Rooms - The rooms are your basic resort room, clean. We were given a room that was not what I had requested and I decided to go with it but it didn't work and the problem was resolved in a matter of few hours. We are a coffee drinkers and the coffee in the room is great so when we went through our room coffee I would ask for more and always got what was needed. There were no robes in the roomes but one quick call and the robe was at my door. Entertainment - I would say the the demographics is basically 20-40 year olds and it seemed like people were participating in the evening activities at the stage. Each night by the restaurants there are people dressed up with different games to play. One thing we really appreciated that you can rarely find is the more casual feel for dinner. I'm all for if you want to dress to the nines - love even seeing everyone dressed up but we are from a cold climate and the men appreciated not having to wear pants. Men wore nice t-shirts and dress shorts so like in Jamaica it was a more laid back Caribbean feel that we really liked. I wondered what 13 days would be like as we typically do 10 days but this was a wonderful almost 2 weeks.
