We were Wow’d again. This hotel is located in the jungle. Way too much Food and bevies 😂. Staff are so accommodating and my recommendation to download Riu App before you go ! The only negative is the Coatis. Too many. Shout out to Olivia, Fidelia and Fernando !

Know what the hotel offers before you book

We got this hotel, flight, and transfer for a steal (£1k per person for 2 weeks) so are basing this review on this basis. This was our first time in Mexico - we travel frequently and use our hotels solely as places to sleep and eat. Location: the location of the hotel in Playacar is great from a security and convenience standpoint. There are a handful of shops and restaurants in Playacar, and 5th Avenue is about a 30 minute walk, or a 5 minute ride on the beach shuttle (this stops both ways at the South East entrance to the Playacar resort on the way to/from the beach). Room: The room is laid out like the other Riu hotels we’ve stayed in and is spacious and clean. The beds are on the firm side and the aircon and full sized fridge are somewhat noisy if you’re a light sleeper. As others have reported, the room did feel damp, unsure if this is commonplace given the humidity across the area or if this is a problem specific to this hotel. The walls are very thin, if you have noisy neighbours you will hear everything, we had 3 or 4 nights where people coming back from the numerous on-site events woke us up either banging doors or chatting and smoking on balconies in the early hours. Food/Drink: Though limited offering in comparison to other Rius we’ve visited, the food was decent - neither of us were ill at any point during our visit and the dining areas were clean. It’s probably worth noting that the food offering appears to be tailored to the hotel’s main clientele group - Central and South Americans and if you’re looking for typical ‘British’ dishes, you’re not going to get them. We loved this about the hotel as we travel to experience difference, but appreciate others may have limited palettes! All alcoholic drinks we had felt watered down/lower quality, this didn’t bother us as we didn’t come here to drink. Service: All of the hotel staff we interacted with were polite and professional and were always trying to help if they could. Know what the hotel offers before you book it - this isn’t a big, all singing, all dancing, five star all inclusive with a beachfront location. If this is what you want, the Riu Palace, Playacar, or Yucatan is where you need to stay. If you want somewhere clean, safe, and cheap to sleep and eat then this hotel is for you.

    The best holiday !

I cannot say enough wonderful things about my stay at this hotel in Mexico – it was truly one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality that immediately made me feel at home. The property itself is stunning – My room was spotless, spacious, and offered incredible views that made every morning feel magical. The attention to detail was noticeable everywhere, from the décor to the little touches that made my stay extra special. The service was beyond exceptional. Every staff member I encountered went out of their way to ensure I had everything I needed. Whether it was offering local recommendations, arranging activities, or simply checking in to make sure I was comfortable, their dedication to guest satisfaction really stood out. The food was another highlight – absolutely delicious, showcasing the best of local and international cuisine.including. A “kids option” Dining here was a treat in itself, and I looked forward to every meal. On top of all this, the location was perfect – close enough to explore everything I wanted, yet peaceful enough to relax and unwind. Whether lounging by the pool, enjoying the scenery, or heading out for adventures, I felt I had the best of both worlds. The beach was beautiful ! The pool on the beach was maintained & the beach restaurant was great also ! With friendly staff! Not to mention how some water sporting activities were included ! I left with amazing memories and a strong desire to return. If you’re considering a trip to Mexico and want a truly unforgettable hotel experience, this is the place to stay. Highly recommended! Thank you all!
