    Great budget friendly resort :)

Riu Lupita is a great place to stay! While we typically visit bigger and more pricey resorts, we were very happy, overall, with our week-long stay. The entertainment team is pretty incredibly (Hector, Joanne, Lucas). You guys rock, and add such a vibrant energy to the resort. The food was very good, and every meal was succulent! The only downside is that day 5, we did get a bit tired of the lack of variety. But it is a small resort, so it is to be expected. We tried the Italian restaurant once and were less impressed than the buffet food. So we just ate at the buffet the entire time we were there. While the beach is a bit far and requires bus transportation, we enjoyed the outing and trip outside the resort. We also took the bus to go shop with our kids at 5th avenue, and had a great time. Further, we ventured outside the resort several times considering that it is on Paseo Xaman-Ha, an absolutely stunning gated vacation community area. My husband took several runs on that street, and I went on my own for my daily walks. We LOVED the area. In fact, we even walked one time from the bus at 5th avenue with our kids to the resort, which took approximately 25 minutes. It is sublime and makes the stay there even more enjoyable because you don't feel secluded and isolated. It's THE best. The service was very good, and during our stay, we used the RIU app constantly to request supplies for our room (towels, water, mattress cover) and they were quick and responsive. The check in was a bit tricky, as the lady at the check-in barely spoke English. She was still super polite and courteous though! The outdoor lobby smells like laundry, and is quite inviting. Major con: The resort needs to invest in upgrading room mattresses!!!!! We've never had such an uncomfortable mattress at a resort. My husband actually had one of his ribs move after a week long on the hard-as-a-rock mattress, and had to go see a chiropractor urgently upon his return. Even after asking for a mattress cover, it was still pretty bad and uncomfortable.

    Little paradise

It was the best. Thank you for all of the staff : Carlos the capitan in the kitchen, Rachel, Joana, Joel and many more. The food is very good and diverse. The rooms were clean. I was a bit scared about the beach since it's not directly at the hotel but the bus take you there very easily and the reserved section at the beach is amazing!

    Excellent Stay

From the start if the holiday to the end everything was excellent. Firstly the rooms were cleaned every day and the mini bar was well stocked up. Secondly the staff were all polite and welcoming, We even met the management because they were always walking around checking things are ok. The animation team work hard entertaining you all day every day, They are all lovely. The bar staff are also lovely and very attentive. To be honest I couldn't fault anything from start to finish, I would definitely return to this hotel. The 3 restaurants on site The main restaurant The Italian The Mexican are all lovely and clean. The beach restaurant which you have to book on the morning of the day you want to go, The mixed grill is to die for. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Some people need to stop sweating the small stuff.

So I spent the last week in PDC and stayed in the Riu Lupita. I have stayed at the Riu Emerald Bay a few times and the Riu Jalisco 3 times as well. I have always done well with Riu properties. That is why when we looked and the eastern side of Mexico, I focused on finding a Riu. I chose Lupita as it was more in my price range as it gets expensive at spring break. Why is it cheaper you ask? Simple. It is not directly on the beach and it is smaller which means it does not have the amenities that you might get at a larger resort. I spent some time reading reviews on this site and really what I discovered is that some people need to spend more time enjoying their vacation and less time evaluating what they don't like about the resort. Yes, it is not on the beach. If you did not know that before you went, that is on you. A simple google map check will tell you this. Reading these reviews will tell you, they never state it is on the beach. One picture shows the beach club and I guess some never look past that. The shuttle is a 30 minute round trip so about 15 minutes each way. Not a big deal. The beach club was not too big but was really nice. We spent most of out time in the water (why else go to the beach) and eating lunch there. You can eat breakfast there and it is served at a later time the the resort buffet so you don't have to rush out in the morning. We had no problem getting 3 chairs together and we went around 1100 in the morning. Not much shade and at that time you won't get to pick and choose your spot. You can not access the Riu property next door. Why? Because that resort is more expensive and the people staying there pay for that resort. Otherwise we could all save money and enjoy that resort. The people who pay the extra don't want those who don't taking up their pool space. Sounds fair to me. We never had an issue getting great spots around the pool. Remember, it was spring break back in Canada so I was expecting this may be a challenge but it was not. Again, if you wait until later in the morning you will not get your first choice. We never had to get up early to reserve. We just got up for breakfast and started our day. It was plenty hot so a dip in the pool was great. I am always up for a siesta later in the day so starting my day off at the pool was great. My son really enjoyed the games around the pool area and won one of them. The pool was a little crowded at times but really never a problem to get in. Yes, the bed was hard. Every resort I have stayed at in Mexico has hard beds. I accept this when I book. No point in complaining about it when I know its coming and still choose to go. I wake up with enough pain that I need help getting out of the bed. My wife did ask if they had something to help with this. Guess what?? They did and so it happened on our second full day that they put an egg carton foamie on our bed. Wasn't much but I was able to sleep at night and wake with only minimal pain. I was happy. The animals... OK. Stop complaining about the animals. Yes there are dozens and dozens of coati's running around the property. They are looking for food. Never once did I see one bother anyone. I never saw one come close to the restaurants or the bar. Most people just enjoyed watching them. They are basically like a mexican cat with a monkey's tail. My kid loved them. No one seemed bothered by them. Leave them be and they will leave you. The closest I saw them getting anything was when they would grab a drink off the tables between loungers. They don't like the lime taste so really just a bust for them. We saw lots of birds and even a deer hiding in the "jungle" around the resort. The grounds were great. The staff were great. The food was just fine. Again, not a huge resort so the selection was not as big as other Riu's but I never went hungry and I am a picky eater. I liked that they had bowls of peanuts or popcorn available at night. I never tried to a la carte's. Maybe the bacon could have been cooked a little crispier. Thats my big food complaint. Things I would like to see added. Hooks in the palapas would be nice. Not needed but helpful to hang you shirt etc. I have seen them at other Riu's. Better table service for drinks in the evening around the bar for the shows. Even for 3 hours or so. They did have one gal available but she really only had time to get the dirty glasses and not so much taking orders. I don't mind getting my own drinks during the but in the evening it would be nice to get some table service. I'll tip for it when its there. Know that excursions are pretty much around $140 ish US dollars per person. Some great ones available, but you will pay for them. We did Explorer Fuego which was great and Tulum with some snorkeling and a cenote which was also great. The shuttle will drop you at the gates to PDC and from there you can walk to 5th avenue. I didn't love 5th as it is becoming more commercial and I am getting tired of the "remember me, your bartender last night" crap. We enjoyed the smaller resort. We liked that it had more of a cozy feeling. Everything we wanted was there and would go back without hesitation. Mostly Europeans and mexicans here. Not many americans or canadians like I am used to on the western side. I know its long but I hope it helps. Don't worry about every little detail and enjoy your time. We found no small stuff to worry about.

    Fabulous trip

After reading some of the reviews I went with an open mind but on arrival my doubts disappeared. Check was a breeze with friendly staff. The porter again lovely. For a smaller RIU it was brilliant. The food at all restaurants was lovely and a high standard. The room was perfect. The bar well stocked and the staff there especially santos, Delfino and Guadalope lovely nothing to much trouble. The entertainment team worked tirelessly so you had a good time. Moises, hector, Joana and the trainee Rachel brilliant. The shuttle bus to the beach a hit as it stopped also at the entrance to 5th avenue. The beach restaurant lovely as was the beach. I would gladly return tomorrow
