All the good comments are true …
Clearly there is some very good management at work here. Checked in yesterday room 1475. It is everything I expected. Check in at 2pm was a breeze and immediately you notice how friendly the staff at this hotel are. Incredibly clean everywhere and spotless room. Fantastic food choices and high quality drinks and our five night stay is fantastic value for money. What stands out for me having been to Riu in Cancun is that in this hotel there are no silly signs anywhere. I should also mention the wine, we are wine connoisseurs and the red and rose they serve at dinner are very good. Dinner last night? Well I had Steak and Pepper Sauce which was perfection and the Ice Cream was amazing. Several English speaking movie channels on TV including Sky News and thank heavens there is no awful BBC World. So there you are, if you are thinking of coming here, don’t hesitate!

RIU IN NAME ONLY
This hotel is not the typical riu hotel so if you're a regular at riu then definitely read about the hotel before booking and you wont be disappointed. The fridge wasn't stocked with soft drinks & beer. I asked at reception only to be told that the bar was 24 hours. Doesn't really help when you are out of the hotel.I have never been to a riu hotel where the fridge isn't stocked. At every riu hotel I have been to I have been told that if a cocktail isn't on the menu, just ask, and if they can make it, they will. Not at this one. I asked the barman if he could make a mudslide and his reply was " yes, I have all the ingredients for a mudslide but I'm not allowed to make any drink that isn't on the menu. I'm sorry but that's what my boss has said". How ridiculous. No riu party. No kahoot or bingo.Entertainment was the worse I've seen. The bands were all very good but the "main acts"were shocking. Elton john tribute act was very good but he was on for 30 minutes and sang five songs. Circus act was juggling and a lot of silly messing about that I would expect at a children's party. Ballroom dancing lasted 25 minutes including costume changes. Sweet dancers could not dance and basically spent most of the time flicking their hair at the floor. They wasn't even in time with each other. The only time the Entertainment bar was full was when football was on.Never saw the entertainment staff only heard a female mumble into the microphone. Daytime entertainment was dismal. Aquasize was on at 2pm, when it was on, when people were either eating lunch or had just eaten lunch so no surprise nobody was doing it. Apart from that the hotel was lovely and clean with comfortable rooms and a big balcony. Food & drinks were excellent. Self service beer, soft drinks, tea & coffee. Peanuts at the bar. Room was made up everyday. All staff were great. Overall was a very enjoyable holiday.

NOTHING and I mean nothing is too much trouble what a little treasure find. Loved Madeira will definitely be back food was good plenty of choice hot and the view from your outside dining area is amazing. Entertainment there if you want or can just side on outside veranda watching the world go by. Shuttle bus into town where lots more to do shopping bars restaurants and a market that is definitely worth a visit. Beautiful people AND mimi the cat is a true princess and just goes to show what a lovely hotel it is she is made welcome everywhere

Chill out and relax
This was our 5th stay at this hotel, it's difficult to find fault, the hotel is beautiful, the rooms are very spacious, clean and it's very quiet at night, the room cleaning service is excellent, the staff are all very polite, and helpful, we noticed a few new waiters this year and they have all been trained to the high standard of the established staff, one of the new ones is Jon? Pedro working in the pool bar area, he's such a lovely, polite young man and a credit to the hotel standard. The food is very good with a great selection of dishes to cover all needs, there is also a pool bar and cafe type area that serves hot and cold food all day. Booking in is quite simple, the reception staff are very welcoming and all done very efficiently, we even had our bags taken to our room by the reception meet and greet young man, who, again was very polite and helpful The evening entertainment is OK, we went in a couple of nights and there is a lovely balcony with comfortable chairs and a fabulous view of the horizon, this hotel in this location makes you chill out and relax. There is a free complimentary bus service each day running on the hour to Funchal, well worth a visit, the cable cars are a must and the toboggan ride back down is great fun, but be warned! you need to be there early to avoid a large queue The only thing I would comment on and it's a recommendation not a complaint is the outside steps down to the pool, there is only one handrail on one side and the steps are quite wide, so it just makes it a little difficult when passing other holiday makers, there is a lift, but it's quite small We love it and we will definitely be returning
