Excellent facility, but dining could be better.

The facility was excellent, the staff courteous, clean rooms and facilities. The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because of the unavailability of the fine dining areas. Reservations are not accepted and unless you are in line at 5:30 for 6 pm opening…then you won’t get in the dining rooms. The next availability is for having dinner is about 7:30 - 8 pm. That is too late to have a full dinner in my opinion. The buffet is excellent, but it’s nice to shake up the dinner plans a bit. Also, the fine dining locations have very few tables…why is this. Seems like everyone could get at least three reserved dinners for a week set up for them. It’s a shame that you have to go to extreme measures to eat in the fine dining areas….and then so very late.

    Average All Inclusive, Prefer Barcelo

We had an end of the floor room which we really appreciated. Nice and roomy, decent view of the ocean, nice balcony. The toilet is in a separate room which was nice for others getting ready, having a shower etc. Bring an extra power bar for much needed plugs. The food was not flavourful but lots of selection for sure. I just got bored of same old by the end of the week. We went off premises to a couple of restaurants which really helped. The drinks were ok. The nightly entertainment I felt was not very entertaining. The DJ there was energetic and fun. He seemed to be used as the MC, the DJ and the Entertainer. I just didn't feel that watching couples pop balloons on each other was what I wanted to watch. How about some dancing? Besides by the DJ? We went to The Cage Drag Show on Thursday and it was perfect. Great performers. I preferred my stay at the Barcelo for the quaintness, warm staff and entertainment last year. I would go if someone insisted back to the Riu, but I didn't love it. Nothing in particular, just the entertainment for me lacked excitement. The staff was not as warm as I had previously felt at Barcelo. The chairs were plentiful on the beach, not at the pool. Good luck getting one unless you put your belongings on one at 5/6 a.m. I didn't love the steakhouse that I had to line up for at 5:15 to be able to eat at 6. You aren't allowed to make reservations before hand. The food was meh. I didn't bother going to any of the other restaurants there. Again, Barcelo restaurants can be reserved and I much preferred the food. I also didn't like the choices for bars at night. The lobby bar was busy, but they didn't play music. I didn't see the value in sitting there. Again, Barcelo had the lobby bar with entertainment nightly with a live performer, and then music and dancing. There is a disco there that opens at 11, there were 4 people in there when we decided to check it out. Good service all round at the resort, nice spaces, just didn't win me over when I've really loved Barcelo and Playa Linda. Also, a much older crowd here. Beds were rock hard but I slept well.

Fantastic Time! RIU Antilles (Adults Only)

What a great hotel! Spacious rooms (my room on the 10th floor ocean view). House keeping very nice and accommodating (what ever you need [extra supplies] it's just for the asking). All of the (onsite) restaurants were wonderful, never had a bad meal, and the variety incredible. Remember to make reservations at one of their signature restaurants (3 to choice from). The staff at the buffet restaurant are very accommodating, just tell them the size of your group and within minutes you and your friends are good to go. If you want prime location on the beach or around any of the pools, you will have to get up early but don't worry. If you want to get a spot at the beach or at the pool just ask one of the pool / beach attendant and they will set you up with a lounge chair. A hidden gem is the quit pool (entrance located between the The Palm restaurant and one if the outside lounge). Enter through a white door and you're there! Oh yes, I almost forgot, unlimited adult libations......never ending variety. Five Stars all the way, enjoy!

    Riu Stay

My husband along with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law spent a week at the Riu Antillas in August of 2023. We did have a great time as it was our first trip since Covid. But i do very STRONGLY agree with a review that Hikingrocks wrote on April 6th. Quote Pros: - STAFF EXCELLENT! Everyone goes out of their way to make guests happy! - Overall the food is good (4 restaurants, 1 Buffet) - Numerous bars with quick and friendly service - We feel very safe here - Hotel, rooms, restaurants, grounds, washrooms and pool areas are kept very clean - Adults only, which is strictly enforced. Cons: Beach area - Not well maintained - many cigarette and cigar butts - Palapas require maintenance or replacing - many are in poor condition - Guests that reserve Palapas at 6 AM then leave chairs vacant for hours (rules are not enforced) - Loud telephone calls on speaker phone - Numerous speakers playing various music genres - Smoking - cigarettes, cigars and occasionally marijuana Pool area: - Pool area does not have enough umbrellas to provide shade for all the chairs - Cigar smoking in the swim up pool - Washrooms need updating Unquote We had actually verbally expressed our concerns with the conditions of the beach the smoking and cigarette butts all on the beach. To the manager in the buffet restaurant as he came around for feedback on how to improve the resort. Our feedback isn't taking seriously enough to make the changes for us to return.!!!
