  A Fantastic Trip

  We loved this resort. The RIU palace properties are always great. The staff were excellent, the bartenders were lively and very friendly even considering they were swamped majority of the day at the pool. Rooms were great and very clean, quiet, we had the garden view and loved it as something different from an ocean view. We often ordered some minibar refills through the app and their responsiveness was great. The salespersons from TIU and other excursion companies were very helpful and I thought they gave me a great deal on a package. They were not pushy at all and overall very friendly. The resort was lively and a mix of different aged adults, the shows were great and the access to RIU party at the neighbouring Santa Fe was great for younger adults looking for the EDM style chaotic party, they are excellent. You can easily go downtown to the clubs, the staff at the front desk will set you up with transport there and a table/bottle depending on the type of night you want to have. Place is overall safe, there is a Walmart nearby, lots of places beyond the resort to explore. You will get heckled to buy things on the beach, but most of them are great people just trying to make a dollar, we did buy a few blankets and nic nacs from them and they are very good to deal with. Only negative is there was issues with the Wi-Fi in room. We couldn't get any in ours any many other people had the same problem. I'm not sure if this was just a temporary outage or if it is common, but I suggest checking before going if it is a must have for you. Great value for money, we booked directly through RIU and thought we got a great deal with transport to and from SJD included.

  Won’t answer the phone.

  Been here several times and love the resort but they moved my reserved elite club room and won’t answer my calls. I know there is staff at the reception. They answered once and then hung up.

  Beautiful Resort, Stunning Views, but Disappointing Food and Service

  I just returned from a 6-day, 5-night stay at Riu Baja adults only , and I have mixed feelings about my experience. First, I will give credit where it’s due. The resort is absolutely beautiful, and the cleanliness is top-notch. The staff does an excellent job maintaining the property, and the breathtaking ocean views are definitely a highlight. However, if good food and drinks are important to you, I would seriously reconsider staying here. The food was extremely disappointing! This is exactly why I stopped booking all-inclusive resorts in the first place. The food is always a hit or miss, and unfortunately, this resort was a major miss. I was even served what appeared to be spoiled shrimp at the Guacamole restaurant, and some of the food had a strange chemical-like taste. The room service menu was also very limited and boring, with very few appealing options. The drinks were just as inconsistent. It really depended on which bartender made your drink. I do want to give a special shoutout to Salvador, who made an amazing Old Fashioned! He definitely deserves recognition. The poolside entertainment was also underwhelming. The entertainment staff could do a much better job engaging with guests and creating a fun, lively atmosphere. overall hospitality was disappointing as well. For a resort of this caliber, I expected a much higher level of service. On the positive side, the resort is incredibly clean, well-maintained, and offers stunning beach views. Thank goodness for that, because can you imagine staying at a resort with bad food AND poor cleanliness? Overall, the resort is beautiful, but beauty alone isn't enough. When you're paying for a luxury vacation, you expect great food, quality drinks, engaging entertainment, and exceptional hospitality. Unfortunately, this resort fell short in several of those areas. If you're going strictly for the views and a beautiful property, you may enjoy it. But if food, drinks, and overall guest experience matter to you, I would think twice before booking.   Subpar resort with underwhelming food.

  During September 25, Riu Palace Baja California was actively preparing for incoming weather. Because of this, all but one restaurant was closed. A notice was posted at the 24-hour lounge advising guests that amenities and services would be reduced over the weekend because of the approaching weather, but no one in our group received prior notification through the RIU app, as stated in said posting. The notice further recommended that guests not leave the hotel because flooding could potentially make it difficult to return to the property. Because of this, upon returning to the property from dinner at Cocina Del Mar, a few women from our trip approached the front desk to inquire what would be required to terminate our stays early. We were told that the unused nights would be refunded and discussed how that process would work once we checked out. Two girls and myself were all separately registered guests of Riu Palace Baja California. We had not initially realized there were two separate “Riu Palace” properties in the area, and a fourth girl was registered at Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas. At the Riu Palace Baja California front desk, Eduardo was made aware of the circumstances. He advised us that it would cost approximately $287 to add her to one of our rooms. I offered to pay that amount, but we decided not to proceed at that time because we were still trying to determine whether we could secure flights later that day. The three of us then sat in the hotel lobby searching for alternative flights. At one point, the other three girls left the lobby, but I remained searching for flights. Front desk employee Eduardo approached me in the lobby demanding I tell him where the other women had gone. I told him I didn’t know, I had stayed behind. Eduardo immediately accused me of secretly bringing unauthorized persons to the property and my room. He commented something to the effect that the hotel had the women “on camera.” I responded that if the hotel had them on cameras, then that same footage should show them where they went and would also show me sitting where I still was. Furthermore, I had my room key in my bag (I got one key at check in) and offered to go to my room with hotel personnel so they could verify directly that nobody was there. That offer was refused. He then demanded I tell him names and room numbers of the other girls, or I would be locked out. I arrived the night prior by myself, so truly did not know their room numbers or where they were. I told him I wasn’t giving (the brides) name because she was just at the front desk and he chose not to ask her to verify her room (like he did me) so it wasn’t my problem. But also - he immediately came in threatening me rather than talking to me like a human being, so I was not up to giving out guest information when they weren’t staying in my room. His coworker eventually got involved. For 20mins had me blocked in to their stacked up lobby furniture, refusing to let me access my room. Threatening to call the cops. Called me an a-hole. Told me to shut up no less than four times. Eventually, I had enough and started raising my voice - which got me kicked out because now I had broken their policy. I stormed off to my room to pack. After another 20 mins or so, Eduardo came to my door with 5-6 police officers. For what, I’m not sure. I wasn’t refusing to leave, but they had been refusing to let me go pack. The cops mostly just sat there looking lost. I asked a lady cop if I was allowed to go to the airport if it was closed and she said it wasn’t really her problem. i said okay, well… I’m asking you, a public servant, if I'm going to get in trouble for being there. She said I had to leave or I would be arrested lol I reiterated, I’m not refusing to leave. Which, eventually I did. $70 later, a nice uber driver took me to terminal 2 where I sat for a few hours until I was allowed inside.

  Great Place to Relax

  We really enjoyed the Baja, the rules had changed a bit from when we used to be able to go to both the other Riu's when you purchaed a room at the Baja for specialty restaurants but now you are not allowed specialty dining outside of your resort. the tier system is not in place anymore. Overall the experience was great and we are going back this november and we are going to stay at the Riu palace this time.
