Oct 04, 2026Disappointing stay: a sharp decline from previous years
Disappointing stay: a sharp decline from previous years We have been coming to this hotel for many years, but everything has changed and it has become much worse. The service is terrible. The towels in our room were dirty, with stains and lipstick on them. The pool towels appear to be reused without being washed and smell awful. The pool itself is dirty, as you can see in my pictures. The buffet was just as bad. The tablecloths were dirty, and even the paper napkins are not changed between guests. I found hair and used napkins on a freshly made table. Some waiters had a terrible attitude, and most of the staff do not speak basic English. A few even mocked us and made fun of us. I asked the cook to prepare pasta without meat for my child. He argued with me for five minutes that he couldn't make plain pasta, even though he had a full plate of it prepared in front of him. After my husband asked, he started cooking, but he mixed everything with his bare hands without washing them, and he was smiling and laughing the whole time. This is how Riu takes care of its customers.

Oct 04, 2026Great Hotel staff could make it better
Firstly the hotel is lovely and very clean. Reception at check in was rather slow and didn’t tell us where we had to go to find our rooms etc. The staff in the restaurants were very friendly and helpful. Special mention to Daniel in the restaurant and Yolander in elite club. My only criticism is the music round the main pool was deafening to the point that my watch kept telling me I was in a loud environment. It was pleasant at all! Even in the reception because it had high ceilings and was quite cavernous everything seemed to echo and I couldn’t hear any conversation with anyone. The positives there was plenty of room around the hotel and we spent most of our time on the beach. The waiters and restaurant staff were good. The food was great lots of choice and the speciality restaurants were excellent. The staff at riufun and riufit were not engaging at all and I found them to be quite ignorant considering i have been to RIU’s many times and always had great interaction with them. One of the riu fit guys was supposed to do bingo at 5pm but it was clear to everyone he didn’t want to be there and changed the game to suit him, so he could massage his own ego and get back to playing loud music around the swim up bar. I liked the hotel and fortunately i can make my own way in life, but I feel some staff mainly the entertainment staff let the hotel down. Would I stay again yes I would as i’m not bothered on being entertained.

Oct 03, 2026Place is nice but food is not great.
The hotel was apparently renovated in 2024. The facility itself is very nice and clean. We went off peak so there was space at the pools etc. the hotel staff is very friendly and willing to help (def tip motivated) a little tip goes a long way and they are super grateful. But the food, this is where the place lacks. The food is awful. Even the traditional Dominican food is bland. The restaurant food, bland and seems like it’s microwaved. I had crème brûlée.for desert and it was pasty bcuz it was old. For me this is a pass. You get plenty of food options but the lack of taste and quality isn’t worth it. Also, the drinks are watered down. Stick to beer or wine if you’re hoping to get any type of a buzz. The shows are lack luster at best. For a quick last minute get away, it’s worth it but def go elsewhere if you are looking for quality.
