We are staying there now. Everything is very nice, except the food. The food is terrible in the buffet and all of the ala carte restaurants and is almost always served cold.

The hotel , staff and vibe at this hotel is amazing ! Great location around 10mins from cancun in a taxi. I was celebrating my boyfriend’s surprise birthday trip and he loved every second of it. I was obsessed with this hotel really great.

Jan 14, 2026Decent resort but not luxurious.
We went as a family with 2 adult children. Resort had some good..some not so good. We received free transportation from the airport by booking directly with Riu. All good and easy. Check in was good and the staff at the front desk was very accommodating. Got to our room which was very nice, clean and spacious. Air conditioning worked very well, mini bar was well stocked. The pool areas are either family or adults only. The family pools are the larger pools with lots of loungers and umbrellas. We thought we were going at a time that kids would be in school, but there were many kids. Lots of splashing and screaming and running around. Not what we were looking for. Next day we moved to adults only. Very peaceful in the morning but the loud music, pool games and drinking started in the afternoon. Again, not what we were looking for. Next day we tried the beach. No umbrellas on the beach and the palm trees do nothing to shade in the morning. Afternoons on the beach are good. They closed one of the adult only pools on our last day because someone threw up in it. Definitely not what we were looking for. Food was ok for the most part. Found out on our third night that we needed to stand in line at 6:00 to get on a waitlist for the restaurants. This was after we complained because we couldn’t get a seat in 3 restaurants. A manager was able to get us in Roma. Food was pretty good. Mexican Restaurant was our favorite. Japan and Krystal were ok and Steakhouse was a miss. Although the meat was tasty, had to saw through it with a steak knife and very tough to chew. We all left most of our dinners. Our last night we lined up at 5:45 to get on the waitlist for Mexican and all of the sudden they weren’t taking waitlists. The people in line in front of us were confused too. Buffet was good for breakfast and lunch. Cinnamon rolls on the buffet are definitely worth eating. Coffee shop was a highlight everyday with specialty coffees and milkshakes. Also dessert choices there are delicious. Pepe’s Food grill by the pool is self service. If you get the burgers before they sit for a while,they are really good All in all it was a week spent in beautiful weather with my family. Felt the resort had too many people and not able to accommodate the crowds. Always felt people were on top of us.

Fantastic vacation at The Riu Palace
Currently staying at this hote for the second time in an ocean front room.l. Can't say enough good things about our stay. Wonderful, friendly and attentive staff. Good food, activities etc. Loving aqua fit every day at noon. Walk the entire beach past Sandals, Majestics etc to the Riu Lindo and back. The Riu Palace has by far the nicest beach in Costa Mujeres.

We as a family of 3 visited Riu palace between Christmas and New Year. I would like to start off by saying that the property is very well maintained, from our room to the grounds , pool area was very well kept. The beach is beautiful. Our only issue was the food and the restaurants. On new years eve we went to Zarape the mexican restaurant and encountered very rude behavior from the lady taking our order, I understand there is a language barrier but to bang her head and act like we are annoying her when my husband was only trying to ask her questions about the entree was not the nice evening we were looking forward to. She also walked away abruptly without even taking my order when we called he back she again said something rude and made a face. We couldn’t wait to get out of there. Not a new years ago eve dinner we were looking forward to, the second night which was Jan 1 most of the restaurants were closed for dinner and the people in Roma the Italian restaurant were very rudely turning people away. I would not go back because the price we payed does not justify the food or the rude restaurant staff we encountered. I would also like to state that their evening entertainment clearly needs to state that it has adult content, sitting with a teenager and watching the crew bring ladies onto the stage to perform certain acts was very vulgar, so many parents around us with kids looked absolutely horrified.
