    Had a great time!

Great stay. People were very nice and hard workers. Always kept hotel clean. I was disappointed with the private beach due to a lot of seaweed.

Well maintained, modern property, with an excellent buffet choices. However, the A La Carts were not so good. The Italian restaurant had poor service, as the buffets appetizers were non existent, as the staff did not replenish the items automatically. They were replaced only after my second advisement to staff they were none available to guests. They brought my wife her requested drink, however they forgot mine, and it was later delivered just before our meal after my second reminder. As we waiting for our meal to be served my wife noticed other guests were being served pasta with a white sauce, Alfredo, my wife’s favourite. We assumed it was a special order. When our meals were finally delivered cold, I may add, we inquired with our server and discovered, without an apology, she neglected to advise us of the ‘Chiefs Special’. The steak house was also a bust. We requested medium-well, and we got super well-done. It was literally one of the toughest steaks I have ever eaten. It was laughable - if you have to precook the meals, don’t bother opening. Thankfully the fusion restaurant was good, and although the best meal we had was at the Japanese’s restaurant, we were somewhat disappointed there was no cooking show, just a regular meal. We were glad we upgraded our room to a Junior Suite. The extra space certainly made our stay more enjoyable. No complaints about our room or cleanliness. Pools were great, as the centre pool was quieter and an escape from the other pool with the usual entertainment activities. This resort afforded the opportunity to visit the two other adjacent Riu properties (Riu Reggae and Riu Montego Bay) if you were seeking the late night party atmosphere. However, guests from the other properties were not permitted on our resort. The Riu Montego Bay had an adult only water park, we did not attend). Overall I give this resort a 8/10. The beach was not crowded, the food was good, the resort was well kept up and clean.

Security at RIU Palace Is Rude!!

The hotel security put their finger in my face and when reported to hotel management response was will be investigated to security supervisor. Noone has spoken to myself or my sister who both reported the incident. This all after having 2 maintenance repairs on day 1 and day 2 of my stay.

Sunshine and Rum Mon... Very Good!

This was my second time staying at the Hotel Riu Palace Jamaica with my wife. We booked the All-Inclusive package using Southwest Vacations back in January for nine nights at Hotel Riu Palace Jamaica. Upon arrival we were greeted and checkered in quickly and given our wristbands and towel cards before being directed to our room on the second floor of building two where we had booked the Junior Suite Garden View. The room was nice but dated. Our view was of the other side of the building one and the street that is in front of the resort but we knew going in that we weren't expecting much as far as the view was concerned unless we lucked into an upgrade of some sort. The building itself was always clean and the only real downfall was that we had no elevator so we took the steps. After some pretty simple directions we were able to access the Riu app and decided to dine that evening at the buffet which offered a wide variety of options and opted for the outdoor seating which was very nice. During the remainder of our stay, we were able to book reservations for the Steak House, L' Acquedotto (Italian), Krystal (Fusion), and Zen (Japanese)... All were very good and if you check the app regularly more slots open up to reserve. For almost every day, we spent the entire day on the beach next to the Hanover pool which was beautiful, and the servers, bartenders, and entertainment team all seemed very friendly. We DO TIP at every meal and whenever ordering drinks. AT the end of our stay we also leave significant tips for top notch servers, bartenders, and house cleaning. We enjoyed the ocean and pool while watching the entertainment team do their thing. There are multiple guys on paddle boards selling their "goods"... If you say "No" they will move on. Daily trips at lunch time were made to the Jerk Hut at the Riu Reggae next door because you just can't beat the jerk chicken, rice and beans, and other delicious additions! One of the benefits we really enjoy about the Palace is that you have access to both other hotels (Montego Bay & Reggae... They only have limited access and not to Palace). Late afternoon snacks at the Aqua Bar were great and a nice hold over before dining. The hotel offers nightly entertainment as well as a very nice lobby bar we frequented. So here is a list of the top things we enjoyed at the hotel! 1. The nightly turndown service was nice and they did it for us most nights. 2. Housekeeping does an excellent job of cleaning and making up the room daily. We never had to ask for additional drinks in the mini bar and the water bottle were restocked nightly which was awesome! I have read in other reviews that there are roaches or other bugs and we didn't see even one. 3. The Entertainment Team... VERY GOOD! These folks are the hardest working people on the resort. WIth unmatched energy you can try and keep up with Spark, Spiderman, Dr. Fun Fun, Star Fire, Short Boss and the rest of the crew! The Dj's are exceptional and offer a variety of music daily that is unscripted (Been to other resorts where its the same music day after day...) We did the Water Aerobics every day of the stay with Spark and loved it! 4. The service at the bar with Monique and Paul was great and always enjoyable with a smile and welcome. 5. The Lobby Bar was a nightly visit to see Archer the Bartender... Great stories, great drinks, and great laughs! Try the ABV with the Appleton 8 and tell him Seymour sent you :) Trivia was fun and catching the NCAA playoffs made for a great environment! 6. Theme Parties!!! Our short list of things we wish would be changed... The wrist bands. We realize with the need to identify guests with some being allowed to use other facilities but they are simply a hassle. Finally... People asked while we were there so I am including my personal Pro Tips! If I was visiting the resort and wanted some inside scoop I would be sure to bring the following: Towel Bands (Amazon), Yeti Style Cups, Personal Floats (Amazon), a Travel Power Strip (Amazon), and Plenty of Sunscreen. I'll include example pics of the items for you as well... Not an endorsement of the product just an example. Just makes for an even more enjoyable time!

Fantastic Vacation at RIU Palace Jamaica

We arrived 3/23 and stayed through 3/30. This was my first time in Jamaica and after having a few days to reflect on the trip now, I have to say it was absolutely one of the best times I have ever had. The entire staff at RIU Palace, Montego Bay, and Reggae were absolutely fabulous. We stayed at the Palace and upgraded to the Elite Club. Here are some takeaways - keep in mind that most of my time was at the Palace, but I spent time at all three. The grounds are immaculate, no debris, trash, etc anywhere to be found (maybe the stray flower petal on the beach from an activity the day before, but not an issue). The pools were clean and clear. Music at the pools was appropriate and not too loud, and each pool definitely had its own feel. The EC pool was very quiet and the bartenders were easy to talk to - Tamar was there most days and great with sharing information. The main pool at the Palace had Paul most of the week bartending. This pool is the big one and where most people would spend time in the water, however, it never felt crowded, even when activities were going on. Paul was great, dancing and interacting with all the different people while never appearing flustered or rushed. He made great drinks and was always good for a laugh. The entertainment staff really made the trip for us. They go by pseudonyms, so that's what I'll use here - Spiderman, Spark, Starfire, and Dr. Fun Fun are who were our main contacts. These folks arrive early with smiles, dance, sing, play, and entertain late into the nights most nights and were great to interact with. They would answer questions about Jamaica, the resort, local culture, and always do it professionally, playfully, and with a smile. Each were very talented and RIU is lucky to have them on staff. Food and drinks were pretty good. I know the reviews are hit or miss on food and drinks at all inclusives, but there was never a shortage of any drink we asked for. Tito's and upper shelf liquor was on hand at all locations at the Palace (hey, Secrets - take note of that) - and the other resorts had a nice assortment of spirits to choose from. While Red Stripe was on tap, the Palace had Miller Lite and Budweiser as well in cans). We ate at several of the different restaurants in addition to the buffet. The servers at the restaurants were top notch and the food was really good. The EC restaurant had surf and turf and it was great with good portions, seasoning, and sides. The Italian restaurant had great food and the app/salad portion is walk up, which was nice to choose what we wanted. The buffet was good, not a lot of American options, but it never was an issue. The buffet was clean and hot food was hot enough, cold food was cold enough. Staff on hand were able to help with allergy questions (I have a few food allergies). The beach was really fun - I had seen reviews complaining the beaches were rocky... this was pretty confusing to me. Yes, there are rock walls, and Montego Bay has a rock irrigation system in place, but the beach and water did not have many rocks. There were a few, but nothing that would amount to rocky... I brought water shoes, never put them on and spent hours in the ocean. Some of the sand between Palace/Reggae seemed to be a little coarser, so that may be what people were complaining about... but if that is what someone complains about, they're reaching. The vendors that paddle up on kayaks were polite enough and not pushy in any way. Yes, they will try to sell their wares and sell you marijuana... a simple, "No thanks," was all it took. Some people have complained about the air traffic overhead. Yes, you can hear the airplanes. It was actually pretty cool to see the planes coming in and going out - it was fun, if a few airplanes over your head is a problem, then maybe look somewhere else, but you'll be missing out on a great experience. Scuba Caribe has stands on both the Reggae and Montego Bay beach areas for kayaks, peddle boats, etc. They also handle some excursions that we found to be better priced and more appealing than the Amstar excursions. While waiting for our room to be ready, we ran into "Black Barbie" (what she goes by, go figure), who explained the Scuba Caribe excursions. We got pricing from her and it was $100 less than Amstar for a very similar catamaran excursion. We went on that on Tuesday and had a lot of fun. This excursion is shorter than the Amstar catamaran, but had everything we wanted and more. We were one of two 40+ couples on the excursion and still had fun with all the under 30 crowd that were attempting to be Instagram famous... lots of laughs and having fun dancing and enjoying rum punch before we ended up at a nice reef to snorkel at. The staff were great on the catamaran - helping a few nonswimmers and guiding all of us to see where certain fish were. A nice surprise - there was a spear fisherman that was in the same area with quite a haul... no connection to our excursion, but took time to show off his catches and talk about his fish he was planning to sell at the market before he swam off. The catamaran then took us to a close by beach with a bar, restrooms, and tourist store. We had about an hour there and there were large inflatables in the water to use, drinks and food to buy, and shopping if you wanted. This was nice to be off resort and still see the kindness of the Jamaican people. While this wasn't the same as going to Rick's Cafe (which I get is popular for tourists), it was a great excursion. We talked to a few couples that did the Amstar catamaran and they were surprised that it ended with a bus ride back to the resorts that took 2 to 2.5 hours ... I definitely preferred the trip back on the catamaran! Evening entertainment was fun. Do not miss the Steel Drum Orchestra! Super talented young people that drummed and danced amazingly well! The reggae beach parties were fun as well. If you are going on a week with a NEON Party, be ready for it! While each resort offers some face painting in the lobbies before the party, having appropriate neon gear was a lot of fun for us. Temu and AliExpress both had options we took advantage of for face markers (not knowing they'd have it at the resort), tattoos, and shirts. The NEON Party was fantastic and housed at the Montego Bay. Staff were on hand between the resorts keeping count of who was coming from where, so it felt safe. At the party, the Montego Bay bartenders were working hard to keep up and did a great job. The entertainment crew from all three resorts took turns on stage with the DJs while also working the crowd. Lots of fun and something to not miss! All in all, a fantastic vacation and definitely a place I'd go back to.
