Awful avoid it and go somewhere else Food is Awful American people being rowdy, as if they are the centre of the universe. Raw meat served in restaurants. Definitely not a peaceful vacation. First and last time. Will pay extra for live aqua next time.....

Well done RIU, you have got it right!

What can I say about our vacation at the Riu Palace las Americas, other than it was a near perfect experience. Hence the title that I really feel Riu are listening to their guests and making sure you have an amazing experience. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who go above and beyond to make it special for you. The hotel is only 30 mins from Cancun Airport and located in the popular hotel zone. It is immaculate and maintained that way. The staff work relentlessly, and you will find it hard to find anything not up to spec. We were checked in quickly and shown to our room, which was huge and perfectly presented. It was on the first floor. However overnight we had a continuous droning noise that kept us awake; so, first thing in the morning, I requested a room change and without any fuss, we were relocated to a much better room in the centre of the hotel on the 2nd floor. We had no issues in this room, and it was perfect for the remainder of our holiday. The food at this hotel is simply amazing. Firstly, you have a huge choice of several A la Carte restaurants as well as the buffet. From freshly made delicious omelettes to lobster at the Black and White restaurant, to Lamb at the Italian restaurant. All perfectly cooked and delightful. The only one we felt a little let down was the Mexican; which maybe could have been a little better for an A la Carte (but that may just be down to our taste); as service everything was perfect. Also, worth mentioning and very popular is the coffee bar, Capuchino. Making perfect beverages day and night and always topped up with enticing pastries. RIU also have what they call RIU Party, where they ship you off to a neighbouring RIU (RIU Caribe) along with all guests from all the other RIU’s. You then have a pool party which was so much fun. Entertainment was good day and night. The entertainment team are brilliant and have so much energy. Throughout the day there were all sorts of fun activities and in the evening is the main entertainment. One night we had Casino night which was great as we did not lose any REAL money. A very special mention to the Piano player in the bar area. He was simply amazing. On point with all the popular or well-known tunes. Plenty to do around the hotel as well. Very clean and safe throughout and La Isla shopping complex about a 15min taxi ride or 1hr do-able walk. We went during the spring break, which also coincided with many Batchelor parties. Unfortunately, the overnight noise from one or two who had taken advantage of the drinks kept everyone up. Not RUI’s fault but does spoil the enjoyment for other guests. To acknowledge, the lovely touch by the hotel to recognise the special occasion being celebrated. Would we go back? Definitely!

A group of girlfriends were graduating graduate school and we booked a package through the Riu website to stay at the Las Americas for an adults only, kid free week to celebrate. When we arrived to the hotel, we were told (rudely) at check in that there were absolutely NO rooms available, and we would need to be moved to a different hotel. We were forced to sign papers immediately that Riu wasn’t liable, and we could have stayed at Las Americas if we wanted to. However, the front desk made it clear there were NO rooms of any kind and if we didn’t accept we would be a group of girls stranded in Mexico. The front desk promised our new hotel was just as nice, and we would all have our own beds, gorgeous rooms, etc. Stressed and scared, we accepted and were shuttled into a taxi to another RIU location. IMMEDIATELY the lobby is noticeably more run down, and full of screaming children. We ask the front desk at our new location what can we do, we were promised adults only, but because the hotels are in the same “category” we could do nothing. When asked why we weren’t notified before arrival of the change, they claimed we had booked through Expedia and needed to take it up with them (We booked a package through the RIU website- and tried to show them proof of that). We had requested connecting rooms and they were unable to provide that, and two of the girls were forced to share a bed though we were promised differently. The only comp we received for the wasted day, change of plans, and complete rebooking of our private transport (I had to pay a fee) was group massages (would NOT recommend). We met others throughout our stay who were told the same story, but because they were not easy to take advantage of girls they were given a room at Las Americas. We made the best of the situation but incredibly disappointed in how things were handled.

    First stay at a Riu

Our group of 10 were there from 4/3-4/7. Overall, the resort is amazing. The beach is amazing. Rooms are very clean. Staff works very hard. Check in was easy and fast. Food on the buffet was ok, half of us thought it was great, and the other half thought it was average for an all inclusive. We ate at the Italian and Steakhouse restaurants, both were good. The activity pool was a little too loud at times for our liking but we enjoyed the main pool when we were not out in the beautiful ocean. Nightly entertainment was ok, some nights there were only music videos playing on the big screen. Bartenders Ernesto and Ulises were wonderful! We did not attend any parties at the other resorts. This was our first stay at a Riu and I would definitely book again. Great times and great memories were made!

Resort was amazing. Sunwing Rep not so much.

My son and I stayed at the Riu Palace Las Americas from March 28 - April 4 2024. The resort was awesome. Very clean. Good food. Amazing Entertainment staff especially Johnny. He goes above and beyond all the time. The beds were a little too stiff for me but we loved our time there. The only issue we had was with the woman who works for Sunwing that we booked our excursion through. I have a very bad knee and use a cane. When she asked what we wanted to do I said something that doesn't require alot of walking. She said she had the perfect thing. The Xplore Fuego with swimming, rafting, Ziplines, ATVs, etc. I figured i couldn't bring mt cane ziplining so i left it at our room. Upon arriving it says you have to be in perfect physical condition to do these activities, as well as you can't be a diabetic. Which i am. Since we paid almost $450 CAD and we had to stay there for 7 hours i had no choice but to suck it up and stay since there was no way of getting a refund. We did over 20,000 steps. You had to walk everywhere to do anything. Over wet stones, uneven ground, alot of stairs, ramps, swinging bridges, etc. Its either this person doesn't know her job and what she's selling or i was an easy mark to get her commission. My knee was so swollen and sore for the last few days of our trip that it has a significant impact because i could barely walk. And to top it all off, I had to see her again the the day before we left to get our departure time for our shuttle to get back the the airport. Which she gave us the wrong time. Luckily the departure time was later so we didn't miss our shuttle. At the end of the day i had two dealings with her and she was wrong on both. Which it is her job to know these things.
