Good but not Amazing
Would i go to this hotel again? No. Not because of anything wrong just feel like we had done all there was to do by day 10 and last 4 days was just a bit routine. Reception team - could not fault them, did have a few issues which they resolved quickly Food - excellent quality only improvement suggestion would be to increase or vary menus a little. The Italian was our favourite and food and staff in there Amazing Rooms - just ok, tired and could do with a bit of a face lift if I am honest Bar staff - those guys do not stop, they are so helpful and attentive, best I have had in many years. Entertainment - just ok - an enthusiastic team but as amateur as it comes. The team effort is there but if Entertainment is important to you give this one a miss. Have been to many Rui hotels over the years and all the focus here seems to be geared towards getting people to go to the 'parties' that take place at rui caribe hotel. Was not for us. Did speak to quite a few younger folk and don't think they are really for them either. Seen a few young ones all hyped up for the party and then they were back in bar in our hotel by 1100 Think Rui need to have a re think here. So in summary if you want a good location, with good food and drink and are not bothered that rooms are a bit tired, and Entertainment is a bit naff then get it booked. And finally Sunbeds - there are 100s of them but only actually a few that get the sun for a decent length of time in winter months. The beds in the Sunny areas had all been reserved with towels by 0800, in general had to either get a bed that only had Sun between 1000 and 1430 or move from one to another throughout the day. I did witness staff putting towels onto beds that I can only assume they then passed on to folk who had tipped them well.

Mixed stay, lovely hotel, good food but room for improvement.
Giving this a mixed review. This is clearly a 5 star hotel based on the facilities, location, and fine dining. The hotel is a lovely art deco building which is very impressive and stylish located beautifully on the beach with access to the warm and scenic Caribbean Sea, with a lagoon behind the hotel; location is fantastic. Where the hotel could improve is the customer service and experience. We were a group of 4 in our booking and plus 1 more on a separate booking to celebrate my 50th birthday. Perhaps we were spoilt after spending a wonderful week at the Bahia principle Sian ka’an near Tulum where they could not do enough for us and ensured that from the moment we arrived to the moment we left the resort we were taken care of. We checked out of the previous hotel on my birthday and after an 1hr 30m transfer arrived at the RIU palace las americas. We met our friend and were planning where we would eat for my birthday dinner in the hotels a la carte restaurants. At 15:00 we approached reception to check in, all seemed fine, and the person took our passports and they even said happy birthday and then things went wrong. The reception person then began speaking with another member of staff, and after 30mins there was clearly a problem but no communication to ourselves to explain what the issue was. So I asked what the problem was, eventually I was told that there was a modification to our booking in April and one of our two rooms was cancelled. I showed the booking confirmation and they said it would be ok but this would need sorting. An hour had passed and we were getting stressed, I am type 1 diabetic and we had not eaten in a long time and the stress was affecting my blood sugar levels. They let two of our party check in and gave the all inclusive bands to them and told us to wait while they sort it and the two checked in could get something to eat and drink, as if they were going to do that while the other two could only sit there tired and hungry. In the meantime I was messaging our travel agent tui and eventually the assistant said they would email proof of the booking to the hotel, once done I went back to reception and asked them to check their emails, they then let us check in and we eventually got into the room at 17;30. We were tired and had lost our appetite and our plans for the evening had to be changed, we rushed to get ready and just ate anywhere we could get in. Our room did not have a stocked mini bar so I suspect they had to rush to get the room ready and the room did not have a sea view as per our booking unless you leaned over the balcony and stretched your neck for a slight view of the sea. I reflect on 10 years earlier, first my 40th we checked into a 4 star hotel in cypress and we were given a room upgrade and there was a lovely birthday cake awaiting us, not this time, far from it! RIU have an excellent party system however we were not told about this on checkin and only found out later through the week. This compares to the Bahia hotel where they gave us loads of information on check and also referred us to the app. RIU have an app too but there was no information on checkin. Like Bahia with RIU you could use the other RIU hotels, however going to the next door RIU cancun the Wi-Fi did not work so I went to the RIU cancun reception and I mentioned this and they said with a shrug of the shoulders that the Wi-Fi will only work in your hotel, this is not 5 star customer service. Staff were polite and the food was good, and we enjoyed our stay but RIU need to work on their customer experience. Upon checkout at 12pm we found our Wi-Fi was cut immediately while we waited for our airport transfer at 14:00 so we could not keep up to date on our flights etc. this just gives a poor impression that RIU do not care about the customer experience from beginning to end, one you are checked in and out they care, outside of that they don’t. This is a massive contrast to the experience we had the previous week with Bahia.

Why we come back every year
We have stayed here for the last 4 years and plan on continuing to vacation here moving forward. Service is always great. Only criticism this year was the disappointing service provided by the MTS transport service. 2 plus hours to get from the airport to the resort. We will not use this transport service in the future. Was surprised how many of your team remembered us from years past. .Great job hiring the best people.
