    Great hotel

Overall Riu Palace Mexico is a great place. The property is beautiful and well maintained, The beach is also great with a lot of plum trees. Buffets have an excellent variety of food. We loved Mexican, Crystal, and Steak House restaurants. Would definitely recommend them. If you like your steak medium or medium rare , order rare. The service in the Buffett, restaurants, bars in all other areas was great! Staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. There is no reservation needed to get to the restaurants , first come first serve! We love it! Guys can dress shorts to the restaurants, which is also vey nice ! Room is a good size, beds are pretty comfortable. Nice balcony. Pillows are vey uncomfortable. There is no wall between the room and toilet/shower area. No privacy :(. It feels like you sit on the toilet right in the room. Who came up with this room design?! There is a jacuzzi between the room and bathroom area. Basically, this jacuzzi is in the middle of the room . Instead of jacuzzi, it would be nice to have at least some kind of divider between the room and toilet. We talked to other couples at the hotel and they had the same complains about toilet not isolated from the living area. I really hope with the next remodeling the hotel will do something about this.

    Best holiday ever.

A fantastic trip. My wife and I have not had a holiday in over 10 years and we wanted to go somewhere special. This hotel was absolutely wonderful. The food was excellent serving a huge range to a very high standard. The pools were clean and never over run. The entertainment team were worked extremely hard in making sure all guests were included, offered to attend and generally very nice and welcoming no matter what the time nor event. The beach was amazing, the sand was golden and clear of seaweed and mess. Always a lounger free and space to lay down. The pool staff that were serving were fun, professional and remembered our drinks from day to day so that when we walked to the pool a drink would be only seconds behind us without even asking. Negatives - the tiled steps leading to the beach from poolside were ridiculously hot in the sun, so be prepared and definitely need footwear to venture up and down them on hot days. I guess this isn't really a negative more of a heads up. The one thing that I would say is that with the air conditioning and the rooms there is always moisture in the rooms. We had some mold in the places you cannot reach without ladders as the ceilings were high in our room. The mold was down to the ventilation and nothing else but from an eyeline point of view it wasn't the best. My wife and I are planning a return visit and hope that the staff are the same and the atmosphere is just as welcoming.

    Nightmare noise

Nightmare time. Rui hotels next door Organised Events prevent an early nights sleep do be aware. If your on the outer rooms of this hotel you will definitely be kept awake by noise from next door hotel. If it's not the planned event the guest returning to rooms at 3am will definitely wake you up. The rooms at this hotel are definitely dated. All rooms are separated by a corridor which acts as a echo chamber when guest go back to rooms talking which will keep you awake. The food and hotel complex is amazing but getting sleep when needed is a must. Keep away is my advice. We will NEVER return to this complex of hotels.

    Definitely needs renovation

I had high hopes for Riu Palace Mexico after reading so many glowing reviews, but sadly, our experience fell far short of expectations. We arrived on December 31 and were immediately disappointed by how outdated the hotel looked. The room was worn out, with visible signs of damage, washed-out linens, and pillowcases with old stains, one of the lights in the room wasn’t working. Not exactly the five-star service we expected, especially given the price point. We asked to see other rooms and they looked about the same. We checked out other Riu properties nearby, and they all seemed more modern and inviting than Riu Palace Mexico. Unfortunately, after a lot of back-and-forth with the hotel and Sunwing, we were unable to move to another property due to a lack of availability. In the end, we used the facilities at Riu Palace Riviera Maya, which was at least more updated. Traveling with kids (ages 5 and 11), we found the amenities lacking. The kids’ club had very limited hours—just two hours in the morning and 1.5 hours in the afternoon—which wasn’t very helpful. The pools were another disappointment. They were all too deep for our 5-year-old to swim independently, and the only shallow option was the swim-up bar, which isn’t accessible to children. The food at the buffet looked promising at first, but many items were of subpar quality. The breakfast juice didn’t taste fresh and seemed diluted. Adding to the frustration, the coffee machine at the main buffet was always broken, so we had to go upstairs to the bar for coffee after meals. The only thing we liked about this hotel was the beach. It was spacious, with plenty of palm trees for shade and no rocks in the water. However, even that wasn’t perfect—it felt overly crowded compared to other beaches in the Riviera Maya. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend Riu Palace Mexico. It doesn’t live up to its five-star rating or justify the premium price tag, especially compared to other Riu properties in the area.

10th Year at Riu Palace Mexico - Planning the 11th!

My family and I have been staying at Riu Palace Mexico since 2011 (with breaks for construction and COVID) for our annual trip and we can not get enough of the beauty in the resort! The amenities, rooms, and food are world class, but what keeps us returning is the staff. Housekeeping, entertainment, food, and drink staff are beyond what anyone could expect - they learn your name, remember your favorite drinks, are friendly and smile all day. We talk of some of the people all year round, and look forward to seeing them when we return. I will always recommend staying at Riu Palace Mexico to anyone that asks about a trip to QR.
