    Would not return.

Just returned from a 12 day trip to the Rui Palace Mexico and whilst I still had a great holiday, I would not return to this resort as there are some major downfalls. As travelers from the UK, we arrived late in the day. As we booked with TUI, a king size bed was selected in our junior suite room. On arrival, we were given a room with 2 separate 3/4 beds as they had given out all king size rooms already. The solution was sleep in that room for our first night, hand the keys back the next morning and return at 3pm the following day for a new room. At least it was fixed. 5 days in, I woke at 5am to use the toilet. Upon putting the light on, our room was infested with flies everywhere. I went straight to reception and was told house keeping would be there ‘immediately’. At 7.30am, no one had arrived. I returned to reception and was told house keeping didn’t actually start their shift until 8am so they would be there soon after. I was told we must’ve left a door open and that “it’s Mexico” so the same thing would happen if they were to provide a new room. I didn’t find the receptionist at this point helpful or understanding at all. Two days later we returned to the room at 5pm to discover the same thing with flies had happened again. Thankfully, the receptionist we had this time was much more understanding and then provided an upgrade for the inconvenience of moving to our 3rd room on a 12 day holiday. The grounds of this resort are gorgeous and very well maintained. The pool areas are good however for a 5* resort, there are multiple tiles broken/missing and umbrellas at the pool are terrible. They do not provide any shade at all. Due to this, we moved our pool location to be under the sliding sun screens. We then realized that they were broken and didn’t pull across. Again, very disappointing. The buffet restaurant was good with lots of choice that changed daily. The quality of food from the A La Cartes was disappointing. The lack of AC in these restaurants was also frustrating at times. I was also horrified when I was told to leave the lunch buffet as my outfit was inappropriate. I had a bikini with a beach dress over the stop? In 31 degree heat and in an outside restaurant with the fans off, this is a little dramatic. On another day, I had take taken my T-shirt off (had a bikini top and high waisted shorts on) whilst sitting down to eat and was told I must have my shoulders covered? I must give credit to the resort for their response and handling of Hurricane Beryl. This was right at the end of our stay and they were great. When paying for a 5 star holiday, I am hopeful the small details (which can make a huge difference) are taken care of. Unfortunately the RIU Palace Mexico missed the marks on a lot of these.

    Overall Good Resort!

Overall I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a family friendly resort with good food! We had a very good time there with our two teenage boys! We wish they had a way to reserve the type of room you want when you make the reservation, they do it based on room availability when you arrive and we had an issue with that when we checked in. You should be able to reserve a double bed room when the reservation is made like you can at most hotels. Also we noticed the drink service on the beach wasn't nearly as good as at other resorts or when we visited previously several years ago. Not a huge deal, we just walked up and got our drinks, but something we have become accustomed to over the years. The food overall was very good! The buffet has a lot of options, and the specialty restaurants were pretty good for the most part, only one we didn't care for. The beach is big and beautiful. The food was very good overall. And the staff was very friendly for the most part.

    Love this place

It is our 3rd time staying at Rui hotels, twice at this resort. We love this place, food is great and the staff are amazing people! The hotel itself is so clean and welcoming, the service is superb. Would recommend this place without skipping a beat. Beach is beautiful and well maintained. The entertainment throughout the day is so fun and engaging for everyone and the night shows are fantastic. For sure will be back soon!

    Not a 5 star Hotel.

Booked holiday thu TUI. On first seeing this hotel it looked very clean and deffinately looked palatial. Unfortunately the room that we were given had a high balcony wall so unless you were stood up all you could see was a white balcony wall and a stair well beyond that. Which I had not travelled for over 12 hours to be allocated a room without a view. We asked the TUI rep the next day if we could be moved and was told that she could not do anything, we had to speak with reception which we did. We were told that to move to a terrace room (glass balcony) we would be charged 700 paseos per night. Yet out TUI booking says we would be allocated either a balcony or a terrace, so why the charge. We were initially told that we could not be moved, but we insisted that they did something. A couple next to us were also asking to be moved, we spoke later and they had been moved. We were told later that day that we could move the following day, so could not completely unpack. The room we were allocated yes had a beautiful view when stood up of the beach, but once again we had a high wall so when sat down couldnt see a thing, only a white wall, so we were no better off. The bath in the room was rusty. The AC was very noisy, but if you did not have this or the fan on, the floor became dangerously slippy, especially two black granite steps which could not be seen, (black step on top of a black step)so had to walk very carefully in the room. The fridge hummed all night so didnt have a decent nights sleep. The restaurant had a good choice of food, but the hot food was barely warm. The beach was lovely and well laid out and the staff were very pleasant. Unfortunately we had 8 days of bad weather, we looked to see if they had put extra entertainment on but only found some sort of braiding going on. As the weather was bad the rain when it did stop dripped onto the balcony wall and pillars, so once again this made it very difficut to sleep. We stood in reception for an hour to see what could be done about these very annoying noses. but gave up as they wre busy checking people in, but whilst stood there overheard that two people had fallen on the slippy floors, one in her room. This hotel is deffinately not a 5 star hotel and would not go back. We have made a complaint to TUI, especially around being charged to stay in a terrace room, when our booking states a balcony or terrace room.
