Always a great stay @ RIU ! I only travel to RIU when in DR. Food is good, entertainment is good and hotel/rooms are always clean.

Just returned from a 11 night stay at this hotel. Unfortunately this is NOT a 5* hotel, I would rate it as a 3*. Rooms-very dated, mould and rust issues. Smelt awful. Only had one electrics socket working (other people we met also had the same issues) . The air conditioning caused water in and on the wardrobes, and also caused very slippery floors. No electric toothbrush charger socket. Safe covered in rust which sometimes wouldn’t open. Cockroaches in drawers. Bathroom covered in mould and very dirty. Toilet kept breaking (not flushing) had it fixed once then we just kept fixing it ourselves as waited too long for maintenance. Tv stopped working, and even once was left without any towels! Restaurants-basically the same food everyday, cooked ok and was hot Bars- drinks tasted horrible, were too strong to drink, Pepsi had an after taste. Most cocktails are ‘slushy’ style. Pool- pool areas were good, although children were allowed in the adult only area. It’s very noisy and busy, the whole hotel is! Beach- a small over crowded area, not well kept. Staff-very hit and miss, at the steakhouse, although the food was ok, staff are rude and abrupt. Pool staff are more friendly. Lucio, who tidies the pool area is lovely. Ladies in the inside bar were also nice. Shop-try not to use it if possible, really, really expensive £13.00 (1,000 peso) for a pack of lays crisp!!! Overall this hotel is not worth the money, and you only get good service if you constantly tip, but the rooms are not fit for purpose!

Nope.
If you care the least bit about the taste of food, cleanliness, and customer service- do not book here. You get what you pay for, which isn’t much. We hopped in the pool (for a total of less than a minute on our 1st day) then hopped out because it was so cloudy and disgusting. Another friend informed us that they saw someone throw up in the pool earlier that day and no staff member(s) made anyone get out or treated the pool even though they saw them throw up. Furthermore, when asked on their “convenient” app for additional blankets, no response. Calls to the front desk, also no response (and as they answered and hung up). When I approached the front desk around 9:30 PM I was informed that they had asked housekeeping. No response. I said I would be happy to take two blankets myself to our room. I was informed that they had no additional blankets….. on the entire premises. we checked in yesterday afternoon, but will be happy to continue our review upon our exit which is 1st of October 2024. Still, no blankets although there convenient app states that the issue has been resolved……

Cleaning of the room could be better upon arrival room (toilet); vault had the locks open from previous guest (so, we could use it, it had to be reset); entertainment/animation could be better (in comparison to previous stays) - ex. more direct interaction with guests before the nightly shows (instead of Kahoot); no special care for it being our honeymoon, although we specified it at check-in (comparing with other couples/groups that we saw during our stay - ex. decorated tables at breakfast/dinner; decorated bed or other amenities in our room); slides in the aquapark not correctly constructed (hurt myself in 2 of them, ending up with a swollen ankle and a head concussion)

Pretty good with some minor caveats
Nice facility, mostly good food but the rooms need a little more attention and the drinks can definitely be better.
