Not the best and definitely not luxury

Our family of four just returned home from Riu Palace Punta Cana. At first sight, it is a beautiful resort. The staff do a great job of keeping it clean. You will not be greeted with a drink and cool cloth like most luxury resorts. The staff at check in provide very little to no information about the resort. We were caught off guard our first day at the beach when we went to get towels. We were told we had to give them “towel cards” in exchange for towels. You would have thought this would be important to share at check in. So my husband had to walk back to the room to find the “towel cards”. The staff isn’t the most hospitable. We have stayed at other all inclusive resorts and the staff were amazing. Most of the staff here seemed annoyed even though we’re tipping them constantly. As for the food, it was disappointing. There is a wide variety but most of it lacked flavor. The steak house had very poor quality meat. It was extremely tough to cut. Unfortunately, the only hot food I received the entire time was from the omelette station at breakfast. None of the food was served at a proper temperature. That included both hot and cold food. I was very selective on what I ate for fear of getting a food borne illness. As for the drinks, they were hit or miss. One evening, my husband requested Jack Daniels and was served Scotch. My husband watched the bartender pour it from the Jack Daniels bottle but someone had poured Scotch in it previously. We did not partake in the parties but they sounded like they were fun. They do have theme nights but you can’t find out any information about them on their website. All in all this wasn’t a terrible place but for the money I would recommend another resort.

    Amazing and beautiful

Yohanna was so nice and friendly. She smiled every time I saw her and that alone made me feel welcomed and at home. I will always come back given the chance. The hotel was magnificent and looked like a real palace inside and out. Room service was great!! Food was good, not great but good. Breakfast was delicious. The bar was great. The only problem I had is that I didn’t get to stay longer lol. Best birthday ever!!! We were treated well! 🤩

    Upset about dinner experience

Great hotel except some disappointments! It is said to be a luxury resort, but me and my husband were very upset about the lousy dressingcode for dinner (and lunch). People was wearing bikinis (!) and swimshorts to dinner! Our (european) family like to/are used to get dressed up for dinner, so this was very sad to notice… Most of the guests at the restaurant had neither any interest in eating ”nicely”. It felt like eating at a fastfood restaurant instead of enjoying a fine dinner at a luxury restaurant. The staff should definitely act stronger to guests not wearing proper clothes! Nevertheless, the food is really really good! And should be enjoyed with style. 🙏🏻 (Didn’t either like all the ”springbreakers” running around everywhere like they were owning the hotel…) Would VERY much appreciate a RIU hotel for families with small children and 50+ people.

Nightmarish Delta Vacations Holiday at RIU Palance, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic…

Sent to: I sent the below to Delta Vacations because I booked through them! Hello Kama & Delta Vacations Team, I’d like an email address for Delta Vacations to provide my full experience. I’ve booked with Delta Vacations in the past with no problems or issues. But this by far was a nightmare vacation from Hades. I can’t believe that Delta Vacations would not investigate their on-ground and in-country partners to make sure their customers are getting the best experiences and “what they paid for!” From the biased management (Nelson) and the team at RIU Palace Punta Cana to the stank, nasty, gross, and smelly rooms, to the horrible food, the “stalker” situation that I encountered, and the on-ground late and awful Delta transportation to the airport… I will never visit this place again! Delta, you are my premier airline of choice! I am requesting a refund for this horrific vacation experience and I’d like a follow-up phone call where I can formally launch a complaint. I would not want anyone to endure what I had to endure. I’m back home and have slept for two days straight because while I was at the resort, I did not sleep because of fear of someone entering my room while I was in it. The very first few hours upon arrival in my room and settling in, a man swiped the key and just entered! I was startled, taken aback, and fearful. When I asked why he just entered my room without any notice, he announced himself as “head of maintenance” and proceeded to fumble around my refrigerator. When I insisted that he still should have announced himself, he blew and waved me off and kept doing what he was doing! That should have been my first sign of where I was and a premonition to the days ahead of the worst vacation to date of my life. And I travel a lot and the world! Initially, I was not going to say anything but I would be remiss not to because I have been extremely emotional and crying since I returned home from the trauma. I am a single African American woman traveling alone mostly and have never feared doing so. In Punta Cana, it was the first time I feared I might not make it back home safely. I called my daughter in the USA to let her know how things were progressing! And especially after a man of Dominican nationality was hovering around the resort one night watching and following me. I had to get two RIUs (the entertainment manager and another of his colleagues) to assist me and escort me to my room. I called the front desk that night to report it because I was so afraid, upon entering my room I turned on no lights for fear of the man watching the floors to see what lights would come on. The man who answered the phone at RIU blew me off and played down my experience. I was up all night peering out my window and listening for any footsteps near my door! I reported it the next morning to Nelson (the manager) who I felt as though he looked at me as just a “complainer” because of my experience with him during my initial check-in! The only folk there I’d feel comfortable with was Fitne (who checked me in) and I never saw him again during my stay. Also, Ana, Manuel, and Kemu serving in the banquet hall. These few people made my enduring a hard and painful experience at the RIU Palace a little tolerable! The main award should go to the Entertainment Manager guy who works in the evening and his colleague for “going above and beyond” the call of duty to protect me from a potential predator and a situation that could have had me returning home in a body bag. I will be warning others online about this place! It is unacceptable of Delta not to know who their partners are and to send their representatives to check these places out firsthand before someone gets hurt.

We booked RIU PALACE PUNTA CANA for the first time to celebrate our 55th Wedding Anniversary. We had been to Dominican Republic in 1980 and stayed in nearby hotel. On arrival we were checked in and allocated us a room near pool and not far from beach. Room was specious and fully stocked with drinks in the fridge and bottles of the spirits mounted on the wall cabinet. The main restaurant was a bit a walk from our room but had plenty of choice of dishes. We were happy that my wife had choice of vegetarian dishes. Plenty of choice of freshly cut fruits and desert. We were daily served by waiters called Willy, Rose and others. They all are happy bunch of waiters and serve with a smile. We met few people such as Leandro who was incharge of shows in the evenings and Janli Zakaria and Baba who ws a chrming lady at the pool. Our anniversary was celebrated at the nain restaurant in the evening by waiters bring cake for us with a lovely song and clapping. We had a lovely time at this hotel. Not forgetting our Tui rep Mr Fray who organised our Saona Island trip which was a wonderful trip.
