Best to the price in NYC
I had a fantastic stay at the Riu Plaza Hotel Manhattan! Right from check-in, the staff were incredibly friendly and made me feel welcome. They were always ready to help with anything I needed, which really made a difference. The location is perfect if you want to be in the middle of everything. It’s just a short walk to Times Square, Broadway, and tons of great restaurants and shops, so exploring the city was super easy. One of the highlights was definitely the view from my room. Looking out over the Manhattan skyline was amazing, especially at night when the city lights up. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a convenient, comfortable place to stay in New York City. 5/5 stars!

Disappointing Breakfast Service
We had an amazing time in New York for our first ever visit which covered 5 days, 4 nights. The hotel overall was clean, a perfect location and most staff were friendly and professional. Our only issue was breakfast and the staff in there. Having been allocated our seats (a table for 2) by the staff, we were left to help ourselves to food however, while sitting actually half way through eating our breakfast we were asked to move tables because they wanted to join 2 x 2 seater tables together to make a table for 4... I was not to happy about the request as we were actually eating but my husband agreed to be helpful and we had to move all our own plates, cutlery, coffee cups etc to let this happen... I wasn't happy, found this very unprofessional and rude and agreed with my husband that we would not do this again if they asked. Surprise, surprise and the day after my husband was getting coffee and I was asked, mid way through eating breakfast again, if we would move! I was adamant that I was not moving as I was a guest and again eating my breakfast and should be allowed to do this without being moved from the table they allocated me yet again. The staff member went without any reply to me saying no. About 10 minutes later while my husband was getting more coffee a male member of staff came over and insisted that I move because they needed to create a table for a group again waiting to be seated.. I said I would not move until I had finished my food and coffee and that it was not fair to again move me and my husband for a second day in a row.. he was not happy with my reply and started to move our plates, etc anyway on to a nearby table .. I was furious, we had a right like all customers to have our breakfast without being disturbed.. I was so angry that I looked for my husband and left the breakfast room without finishing my food. This is very unprofessional, rude and unacceptable behavior for people working in the service industry. We loved the hotel in general including the room and amenities but this would certainly put me off returning to this hotel on our next visit.

Great location. Modern hotel. Ticks all the boxes.
Great hotel with an excellent location. Just a few metres from Times Square but sufficiently away from the chaos and huge crowds. Very helpful and friendly staff. Didn’t bother with breakfast, as wanted to get out and enjoy the array of diners and breakfast options. Queues were very long but I gather they go down quickly. NYC is a city where the hotel is really only a base - up early and back late, so a comfortable bed, good shower and clean room is all that’s required. Hotel ticks these boxes. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Fabulous New York stay
We visited for 4 nights in June and what a stay. The hotel is all round brilliant, friendly staff excellent location and really modern and clean. Check-in was a bit slow, but we did arrive at 7pm when a lot of other groups were also checking in. We had a room on the 36th floor with a side view off Times Square and an even better view out of the window at the end of the lobby. The lift was fast up and down. We had read negative reviews regarding the breakfast service and queuing system. We never experienced a longer wait than a maximum of 5 minutes, and the lift staff were so cheerful we were happy every morning. You have to come down to the lobby and queue for a separate lift back up to the breakfast floor, but it's so well organised, and the line moves fast. The breakfast choice was immense. There are two sides to the breakfast room, but they serve pretty much the same on each side. It's very busy around 8 am so if you can get down by 7 then it's better. It filled us up so much we didn't need lunch. The room was a decent size for 2 although I'd have preferred hidden wardrobe storage. The shower was good and the hairdryer provided was adequate. Not much room for cases but we managed to fit them under the bed. The hotel lobby bar has a daily happy hour with very well priced beers wines and cocktails. They also have a deli type takeaway with sandwiches snacks etc although we found this expensive compared to outside the hotel. The door staff are friendly and helped us get a taxi downtown and the hotel also stored our luggage on the day of checkout. They have free WiFi throughout which worked well for us. We found the hotel to be popular with large groups but still despite the size never felt too crowded. The location was excellent literally a couple of minutes from the red steps at Times Square and 15 minutes from the Broadway theaters. Plenty of subways close buy and we always felt safe despite the central location. We would definitely book again.

Solid hotel
I found a good deal on a one-night stay. The official rate was about $330 but be warned: This is one of those hotels that tack on an extra "resort fee" that isn't included in the rate. That brought my total up to about $385, which is nevertheless a good price for a decent hotel in Manhattan, especially around Times Square. Another thing to be aware of: There is also a Hotel Riu Plaza NEW YORK Times Square a couple of blocks away. I accidentally went to that one first. Anyhow, once I was at the right hotel, I got into my room fairly quickly. The room itself was very good-sized and generally very clean and comfortable (for one exception to the cleanliness, read on). I didn't have an amazing view but I also wasn't staring at a brick wall, which is pretty good for NYC. There were plenty of fluffy towels in the bathroom. The toiletries were good quality: The shampoo didn't even make my hair feel like straw! However, one thing really grossed me out. The modern shower has a gully-type of drain going along one side. After my shower, I looked down into it and saw a LOT of hair and other junk that definitely wasn't from me (long blonde hair although mine is short and dark brown). YUCK!!! I would have taken a photo but I didn't want to ever see it again. I also didn't like the fact that the shower has a curtain instead of a door: It makes it dark and shower curtains are a little bit icky. The breakfast was very good but it was a total mob scene there: There was a line to get a table and space at the buffet was tight. I put my juice down for a second and the woman next to me accidentally dipped her dangly bracelet into it while reaching for something. I was spending the day in the city after checking out, so I had the hotel store my suitcase for the day. There were so many people storing bags that there was a backlog, meaning suitcases were standing around in the lobby waiting to be brought to the storage room. I was a little nervous about someone walking away with my suitcase, but it was still there when I went to pick it up that evening.
