    Amazing atmosphere!!

My husband and I travelled with friends in mid March to stay for 10nights at Riu Reggae and we had a phenomenal time overall! For our great experience we want to thank and shout out Nyran from the entertainment team who was so wonderful, enthusiastic and made such an effort to engage with us. The entertainment team’s Jamaican Show was an out of this world performance. Ocean from the spa was very helpful and accommodating when we booked incredible treatments and the food was well catered for vegetarians. However, there is always one that clearly has no customer service skills and that happened to be a female staff member working at the water sports desk. My husband politely asked her if paddle boarding was available. She did not even look up from her personal phone to him and said look at the colour of the flag indicating that it’s too windy which we were not aware of at the time. I was disgusted at her rude response and we felt so dismissed and discouraged to ask about further activities. I can’t remember her name but I definitely avoided her like the plague after that interaction. Overall, the hotel is not that big and there is always a party atmosphere so if you’re looking for a relaxing break all-round, this would not be the hotel for you. We visited Riu Reggae two doors down to use the water park which was fun but the atmosphere there does not come close to Riu Reggae. Visiting Jamaica is a must and Riu reggae was a brilliant stay for us couples!

    TERRIBLE

4/5/24 - 4/10/24 Hello, there was a group of 5 of us that stayed at Riu reggae in Montego Bay. I must say I travel ALOT, and I've stayed at many all-inclusive resorts, and this has by far been the worst experience I had. Starting with check in, we arrived around 2;30 pm or 1430 and our room was not ready, we had to wait over an hour before we could go into our rooms. We get into our room which was switched to room 149 because the original room 147 was still not ready. Room 149 had a terrible smell when we entered, it was my friend's birthday which she included in booking at nothing was done as a birthday celebration. Our second day at the resort, the power went out on the entire resort for multiple hours, there was no warning prior. The power was out from 10am - 3pm this day again with no notice. We couldn't even get into our room 149 during the power outage. We were told we had to wait to enter our room. The power went out AGAIN on the third day but this time even worse from 10am - 530 pm. To me this is absolutely ridiculous, again there was no warning and no sense of urgency from any of the employees to resolve the issue. Multiple times while at various restaurants on the resort the lights went out and were flickering. THIS IS UNNACCEPTABLE. My friends and I's stay was heavily negatively impacted by all of these events.

Great stay for large groups, lacking activities

After just returning from the Rui Reggae from a group trip with lots of friends, I have a conflicted feeling of having a great time while still feeling there is much to be desired. In my opinion, this venue is good for groups (the larger the better) but would not be my choice for a solo, or couples trip. Positives: Drinks: The drink options are vast at the Riu Reggae and the smaller resort size means you are often never left waiting long for service. The number of options seems only limited by your imagination and the espresso machines at each bar provide an excellent kick in the pants for those who need it. The pool bars are also a great addition and provide a well-needed break from the heat. Rooms: The rooms were all in all very nice and better than other resorts I have visited in the past. The safe in the room gave you peace of mind to leave your valuables and documents. Perhaps we lucked out with our location, as we were facing the outside of the resort our balcony had lots of privacy, other rooms faced the interior of the resort and seemed as if they would lack privacy and require blinds to be closed if you wished to change or have privacy. Specialty restaurants: Although difficult at times to get a reservation the specialty restaurants were mostly great. Some nights were more hit than miss but the Italian and steakhouse were our favorite meals this trip. The Asian restaurant also did not require reservations and was our go-to spot over the buffet for dinners with no reservations made. Negatives: Service: This is a double-edged sword as I found service to be either really great or severely lacking. Compared to other places I've visited it seemed to be a coin toss if your server/bartender would be polite, friendly, and engaging, or disinterested, rude, or mute. There was more than one instance where we were genuinely offended and unhappy with rude service. If you want the best service then you should be prepared to tip well for it. SHADE: Something which was sorely missed and commented on each day by me and my group was the noticeable lack of shaded areas to relax. The heat and sun is palpable and we often felt that especially the pool/beach areas lacked shade areas to accommodate many people. This was a sour spot for me in particular who often wished I could have a drink in the pool bar without needing to constantly dip my shoulders in the water to cool off under the intense sunshine. Activities: I'm someone who loves to keep moving and occupy my time with games, sports, and activities. I found this lacking to the point where I would have been quite bored had I not been vacationing with a large group. Attractions like the water park in the adjacent resort were good fun, but are a far trek away and can only provide so much before you look for something else. The volleyball pool was lots of fun but again would not be much of an option without a large group. Power: We experienced several power outages during our stay, most for only a few moments but some lasting hours. One day in particular we were left without power for most the day and the food and comfort (from AC) was harmed from this. We've been told that it is not uncommon in this area, but the lack of backup generators for key areas like the kitchens was dearly missed. TLDR: Decent resort with great drinks and fun for larger groups. Lacked in overall service, activities, and shade to beat the heat. For the price and other options in the area, I don't see myself visiting this location again, and it left me feeling like there are better options elsewhere. Shoutout to Shadow who was part of the entertainment crew here. He quickly learned the names of me and my girlfriend and would always come and engage with us, chat, and tell us about some of the day's activities. It was refreshing to have that quality service and I know that the entertainment crew in particular had many others who formed connections with people in our group and raised our experience with their high energy and friendly demeanor.

    Party party

This hotel is a party hotel, with loud music all day long, it’s quite a walk to find some peace and quiet. It’s like an Ibiza hotel for the Americans, and they are wild, so it’s amusing to watch. Activities all day long so you will never get bored. I’m vegetarian and I loved the food! Never disappointed and lots of choice. Drinks were very sugary. Evening entertainment was amazing and the team work so hard I really don’t know how they do it! Me and my friend came with our mums, so was more to relax for us but this wasn’t the right hotel, however perfect for young adults with friends!

Amazing 10 days at Riu Reggae, Montego Bay, Jamaica

My husband and I stayed at the Riu Reggae from March 24 to April 3, 2024. It was only my second time to Jamaica but by far the best. If you're going to Jamaica I would highly recommend this resort. The food was excellent and the service was phenomenal. Winston at the Roots bar and Jodi our server on the beach went above and beyond to make our trip memorable. There were three pools and a nice beach area for swimming, we never had any problems finding a lounger to put our towels on. My only complaint was that they didn't seem to clean the pools very often and after the foam party in the main pool there was a white film around the edges for a few days before we left. wasn't a deal breaker as there were two other pools you could swim in. We also took a taxi to the Hip Strip to do some shopping. 20 American per person each way, I didn't think it was worth it (Margaritaville was closed for renovations). Will definitely be returning to this resort.
