The service and food were outstanding. The staff was also very diligent with cleaning the exterior of the property. The availability of food/drinks was great. The waterslides were fast and fun. The beach was nice too, but there are vendors out there hounding you for excursions, drugs, etc. I never felt unsafe anywhere there. The only issue, just for me personally, is the loudness of their party venue, especially on Saturday nights when it runs late into the evening. A party area is a bit of a given at Riu properties, but if you're not interested you should ask to be in a building far away because it is LOUD.

Sep 09, 2026Late-night knocking plus an unfair damage charge at checkout
I stayed at Hotel Santa Fe in Cabo San Lucas and left angry, unsafe, and out of money I should never have had to pay. In the middle of the night someone knocked on our door. Not a light tap — knocking that woke us up and left us sitting in the dark trying to figure out who was outside and why. No staff came. No explanation the next morning. In a hotel you are supposed to feel protected, not startled at 2 or 3 a.m. wondering if you should open the door. That alone would have been enough for a terrible review. It got worse at checkout. When we arrived, there was already broken glass on the coffee table. We did not break it. We did not use it. At checkout they insisted we pay for that same broken glass and would not complete checkout until we did. They treated it like we had destroyed hotel property when the damage was already there when we walked in. Paying to be allowed to leave after a stay is not hospitality. It is a shakedown. A hotel that cannot keep unknown people from pounding on guest doors at night and then charges guests for damage that existed before check-in has no business asking for anyone’s money. We will not return and we will not recommend this property to anyone. Save yourself the stress and book somewhere that inspects rooms properly, documents existing damage, and actually cares about guest safety after dark.

Yearly anniversary vacation…
Had issues with AC in the room for a few nights and bar service in evening was a bit slow. Need to provide more staff according to crowd for evening entertainment.

RIU Hotels & Resorts is in no way responsible for the consequences and or lawsuits that may ensue due to rejection of unauthorized spring breakers arriving on Riu property.
