Great stay for a busy week!
Resort services, staff, food, pools, were great. Perfect if you have many plans outside and come back to a lively resort with its own restaurants and activities. Not too much cultural exposure. Lots of pools besides the beach. Staff is amazing.

Wouldn’t Stay Again
We stayed for 10 nights from the end of June to the beginning of July. We are a couple in our early 30’s . We booked this hotel based on the fact it was adults only. We had a lovely holiday but we definitely wouldn’t stay at this hotel again. The hotel grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the pool area and beach are beautiful (albeit you need to get to the sun beds around 6:30am to get one by the main pool). The resort is fairly small, rooms are spacious but definitely do need refreshing & maintenance. The big let down for us was the service here or lack of, especially compared to other resorts we have stayed at in Mexico. Over our stay we came across a few members of staff which did put in the effort but most made us feel like a burden. We tipped at each meal time and for any services, concierge etc but soon came to the realisation that it makes no difference what so ever, there was no ‘extra mile’ or effort from virtually anyone. The friendliest member of staff we found was the cleaner. I fell over walking from the pool to the restrooms which a number of staff members entering the staff area next to the restrooms witnessed, (the wet floor sign was hidden in the entrance of the toilets). I was being as careful as possible having heard of others whom had fallen over and seeing the floor was drenched from other people coming in from the pool but alas I went flying. No staff members checked I was ok or indeed were in any rush to dry the floor to stop it happening to someone else which was a concern as there were a number of older guests. I spent the duration of my stay with a bruised swollen knee with no welfare check from the staff, not even an offer of some ice to put onto it after it had happened. We had one particularly rainy day and our room flooded a few times throughout the day this combined with a leaking AC unit was not ideal. We went to reception and informed them each time as concierge was never there (we saw him once in the whole of our stay) the reception staff didn’t apologise or really offer any sympathy about the situation, we just got the standard ‘I will call maintenance’. Judging by where the water collects in the room, the furniture and ceilings have withered so this must be a regular occurrence whenever there is torrential rain. Please be aware if you have a top floor room in block 29! We waited around 45 mins each time for a cleaner and ‘maintenance’ which turned out to be two ladies with brushes. One lady couldn’t speak English but google translated to us how sorry she was for this, which we appreciated. Bar service on the beach is particularly laps, we had numerous occasions where our drinks didn’t arrive after 30/40 minutes (and never did arrive) therefore we soon realised it was easier to go to the bar to get them ourselves. Of course this was no bother but when you have repeatedly tipped it is frustrating that the service is so bad. Tip - The resort doesn’t provide straws so make sure to take a re-useable cup with one or some re-usable straws. We walked to Walmart and got some. We ate at the Deck, Plazzo, The Grill and Asia. The food we had was nice and was always presented well. The menu doesn’t change and is the same each time you visit so if you are there for a while it can be repetitive. The breakfast buffet lacked options, we ventured out quite a few mornings as it was virtually the same every day with limited options. We personally missed having a buffet at dinner that you could just visit as and when you liked and help yourself too. We didn’t realise when we booked this hotel that it was restaurants only, it can be quite restricting if you like to take the day as it comes as you just grab something as and when you like as you have to make reservations for each day and if like us your concierge is never there it can be a nightmare to try to make any changes. We also got snacks like crisps, treats etc from Walmart & 7 Eleven as there are no places to buy them in the hotel. The hotel location is good, you are inside a gated community so feel safe to leave the resort and go for walks. There is a small area of shops across the road with a Starbucks etc, we 100% recommend Barra Artesanal and the Aqua Marine Spa. 5th Avenue is around a 20 minute walk away, we did this a few times and caught the ferry over to Cozumel. As I mentioned before the beach is beautiful and goes on for a few miles so it’s lovely to have a walk up and down even with the current seaweed situation. If you like entertainment, the hotel does provide some activities in the day and in the evening but it is very repetitive. This review is purely based on our experience, we met others who also had similar experiences to us and wouldn’t return and we also met others that loved the place and return every year. Some of what we didn’t like about the hotel comes down personal preference and expectations therefore just wasn’t right for us. Unfortunately the service here was a big measure of what really let our stay down, despite this we still had a brilliant holiday.

Always a relaxing, welcoming place we love to return to, time after time. Excellent service, food and location.
Visited this time with my daughter, mom had to stay at home unfortunately but has enjoyed the great service, food and location of this resort also. Shout out to Exal Ramirez, Pool Concierge who always makes our stay welcoming and we are always glad to see him again. Also to Ricky Rosas, building 27 Concierge who also takes great care of us prior to and while there. You two gentlemen make the difference, thank you ! Looking forward to seeing you all again in November. Carolyn, Emily & Mike

Love Royal Hideaway Playacar!
This resort is always a favorite! I've been to the resort three times. You cannot beat the value, the beach location, the cleanliness, or the top-notch service! The only suggestion I would like to make is to get the week's activities in advance to plan excursions around those events.

Needed a room for just one night after our flight was delayed. This resort has been above and beyond for the minute we got here, beautiful property and amazing staff and want to come back for a week just to stay here.
